Default Infant Overbite?

Hi guys,

Just found out I'm having a girl! Yay!

The ultrasound kind of concerned my DH because he thinks she has a massive overbite. Is this possible at this stage? Do you think it will be noticable? Like freak show material? I told him it's so hard to tell from those things I mean she could grow so much between now and then. But he says the basic skeleton should be pretty much there so what do you think? I looked all over the internet and really didn't find anything.
Also she's 8 days ahead (bigger) than she should be and I'm positive on my dates so I'm wondering if she's going to be a linebacker too? Poor baby, I just don't want her to end up on Extreme Makeover!
Thanks!

I think your dh is teasing you.

You need to ask your doc unless your DH is a radiologist or and sonographer.

Next tell DH to go make you a cup of herbal tea and to bring you a bowl of ice cream. Also, you are getting too big to clean - especially the toliets - he should do this tonight. I think also this stress is hurting your feet and when he is done with the bathroom you could use a good foot massage.

Take it from another Mom and Gramma.... Your DH has you worrying for no reason at all. An unborn baby's head always looks "top-heavy" -- sort of like an upside-down pear shape. The upper lip usually sticks out. The "basic skeleton" that your DH thinks is already formed is still mostly cartilage, not hardened bone.
In fact many of a baby's facial bones take on shape to match their mannerisms as they grow. There has been scientific research into the reason why children grow to look like their adoptive parents. The finding is that facial bones are so soft at birth that they can be shaped by smiles and frowns and laughter and tears.
My advice is that you laugh a lot.
If she is 8 days ahead of what you thought your dates should be, no need to worry about that either. Many women have bleeding spots a week after they have actually conceived. Many pregnancy tests bring a positive or negative error, giving us an error on dates.
Do you have a happy grandma-type nearby who you can share your concerns with? It sounds like you may be having your very first baby and with the complete change in body chemistry and lifestyle, you could use a nice loving older lady to guide you along.

God's Blessings,
Garnet

Yep, they just look like that! My husband just knew that DS was going to have a head shaped exactly like Homer Simpson. He was really worried about it. I agree...make him clean the toilets!!!

Sit down with a nice cup of tea and relax, breath. Your baby is fine!!! They always look "different" on those sono's! They especially tend to look like they have an overbite! Mine always did anyway!
And don't worry about the size!!! Every technitian(sp), is different! You have to realize that the baby's size is determined by how the tech is measuring. For instance, with my last, I was having sono's once a week for the last eight weeks (cause they thought I was to big so they were checking for gest diabetes and whatnot) anyway, there were a few weeks that scared me because of just one certain tech. She was saying that the baby was gaining a pound a week. By the time I was 34 weeks, she was saying my baby was 8 lbs!!! The dr. was really relying on her sonos. Well it turned out she was measuring off. Thankfully I got a different tech for the next sono and the baby was a lb lighter. And it stayed there. (she ended up being 9 lbs) So basically I had to go in for so many sono's to check her weight, because of a faulty tech. There was no way she was 8 lbs at 34 weeks!
So after all of that, please don't fret. If the techs thought there was anything wrong, you would have known or they would tell your dr. Your baby is fine. They're supposed to look like aliens on those things!!!

I wouldn't worry about it. When I was preggers with my DD I had some problems and had to see a specialist. He had a 3-D ultrasound and could see a little more that what you would normally see. He asked me if anyone in my family had big ears. I told him that to my knowledge everyone had normal ears. He told me that in 35yrs it was the first time he had seen ears on an ultrasound and that she would probably have big ears. First thing that came to mind was DUMBO. My DH was really worried that people were going to make fun of her and then I started to freak out. A month later she was born and her ears are actually pretty small. Seriously, don't worry yourself over it!!

I would agree with the others. After my DS's U/S, we thought he had a huge nose - we can still see it in the picture they gave us. Well, we were wrong. It's fine.

Relax. You'll have to worry about later

*Sigh* Thanks everyone. I told him I wasn't too concerned. It was all stuff that could be fixed with plastic surgery. LOL No seriously though. It is nice to hear other mothers' perspectives on the things they worried about. I'm sure I am worried for no reason. I told him even if she does have weird stuff going on we will have no idea because she will be beautiful to us.
He was NOT kidding. He was seriously worried she is going to be a troll! Hmm...I'll try that cleaning/tea thing tonight. And I am APPALED by the tech who said the baby had big ears! What a horrible person! and that was a "professional" opinion. When she came out were you like, "Let me see her ears!"
Thanks again....relief!!!!!!!!! (till the next thing I can think of to worry about)

It wasn't the Tech that made the comment, it was the Dr. I can honestly say that I checked fingers and toes and then checked out the ears. They were perfect!!!

Linebacker, haha! Don't worry about that. My daughter was 10lbs 14oz - yes almost 11 lbs!!! (And not a c-section.) She looked like a 3 month old when she was born. She is a healthy, active young girl and she is within the charts as far as height and weight go. She is 9yrs, but has always been within the charts, except for her first year or two. But she just looked a little older than other kids. Later, she leveled off and the other kids caught up. She is tall, but the not the tallest in her group of peers.
