Default Cupcake failure rant

I am so annoyed.

My DSD asked for a red velvet cake for her birthday, which is tomorrow. She specifically said she wanted one like the one served at Chops Steakhouse on the Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

I found their recipe, followed the recipe EXACTLY, and baked two dozen. These are the worst cupcakes, all dry and not flavorful at all.

I am ready to throw the whole lot of them away. Even DH could barely choke one down.

......sigh.........

Thanks for letting me vent. I guess it's off to find a ready made cake.........

If it might make you feel better, the members of my household would have eaten them anyway.

I wouldn't blame the chef, blame the recipe. I have had that happen to me before, I absolutely hate all the time, energy and effort wasted on bad instructions.

Good luck finding an alternative. Now I'm off to find some chocolate something (SCSers have this incredible way of enabling my addictions <sigh>)

If you have a Costco near you, they sell a Red Velvet cake that is really good.

Well, I told DSD about the cupcakes. She tried one of them and bless her heart, said it wasn't as bad as I had said. Told her I was going to toss the others, and she said she still appreciated the thought and effort I had gone to for her.

Today after church we purchased a Red Velvet Cake from Costco (thanks Karrie).

I noticed their recipe is missing vinegar. Every red velvet recipe I've used has some vinegar in it.

I'm glad Costco worked out and that your DSD was understanding. Costco has saved me tons of time with their bakery items!

I noticed the vinegar was missing as well, and an elderly friend at church told me the same thing - all red velvet recipes she's used/seen call for vinegar.

The Costco Red Velvet Cake is fabulous and DSD said it was also one of her favorites (the other being Royal Caribbean's).

And after all of that, DSD still hasn't eaten a piece of the cake yet..........kids, go figure.
