A very quick hello - hope everyone is safe from the earthquake and hurricane. Talked with my SIL and they are without power along with many others. Guess it was good timing to go away.

Hi Caterina,

It's good to hear from you .... I was wondering if you and Reynold were still traveling or had tried to make your way back home through the storm. I hope you are feeling well.

Thanks, my dear friend, yes we visited my aunt in Shreveport and are now in New Orleans. Am doing fairly well and am grateful for your prayers. N.O. is a great place with great food but am being extremely careful in the 'eating' department.

Have been trying to reach my neighbor but still no answer which means we are probably still without power... Danny did go over to the house the day after the storm to check on things and said there was not any major damage. PTL!!

Thought to share this reflection for today..

REFLECTION:

Wait on God (Relax) -- Be still for a minute; don’t come running into God’s presence and start talking immediately. Follow God’s admonition: “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Be quiet for a short while to put yourself into a reverent mood.

Pray briefly (Request) -- Ask God to cleanse your heart and guide you into the time together. You need to be in tune with the Author before you can understand his Book!

Read Scripture (Read) -- This is where your conversation with God begins. He speaks to you through his Word, and you speak with him in prayer. When you read your Bible, try to do it –

Slowly -- Don’t be in a hurry and don’t try to read too large an amount.

Repeatedly -- Read a passage over and over until you start to picture it in your mind.

Without stopping -- Don’t stop in the middle of a sentence to go off and do a doctrinal study. Remember that your goal here is not to gain information, but to feed on the Word and get to know Christ better.

Aloud but quietly -- Reading it aloud will improve your concentration. It will also help you understand what you are reading better, because you will be both seeing and hearing what you are reading.
Systematically -- Read through a book at a time in an orderly method. You’ll understand the Bible better if you read it as it was written – a book or letter at a time.

Good morning, some encouraging words from Max Lucado

There is not a hint of one person who was afraid to draw near
Jesus. There were those who mocked Him. There were those
who were envious of Him. There were those who misunderstood Him.
There were those who revered Him. But there was not one person
who considered Him too holy, too divine, or too celestial to
touch. There was not one person who was reluctant to approach
Him for fear of being rejected.

Our country needs prayer and the people of God to need to humble themselves asking for His blessing.

Timely Warning

"God looks down from Heaven,
searching among all mankind
to see if there is a single one
who does right and seeks God."
(Psalms 53:2 LB)

Our forefathers knew perilous times
Of spilt blood on the sod,
They battled to preserve the creed:
"One nation *under God*."

And since then many men have fought
On land and sky and sea,
Courageous, valiant heroes died
To keep this country free.

For freedom is a priceless thing,
A gift beyond compare ~
A privilege immeasurable,
Maintained by fervent prayer.

Americans, take heed
To what our forefathers held fast:
Unless our faith be firm in God
This nation shall not last.

This is so true and even more so right now. Our church always lifts up the President, House, Congress and others in authority. Our pastor also repeatedly reminds us that GOD sets those in authority in their places and that nothing happens without His consent. There is no bad-mouthing any political party in our church -- which I think is awesome. We can discuss, agree, disagree -- but all with respect for those who serve. We do need to pray for our country and our leaders. Thanks for the wonderful and timely reminder.

Been so long since writing, but read and think of you often. So glad you had a nice trip and no major damage at your home Caterina! Louise and Caterina thank you for the devotionals. Nanner, how is everyone down your way, hope surgery went well and recovery is going good. Rita, how are you, think of you each time we hear of storms out your way.

Mom , has a discharge plan meeting coming up, not sure yet if they will say she can go home or stay in the nursing home. She is still so worried about falling with walking, the strength is there but very emotional with ambulation. She wants to go but will be 24 hour a day care.

DD had her ultra sound last week and found she has a hemorrhaging cyst on her one ovary and two fibroid tumors in her uterus. Can't see the Dr. until into Oct. so is worried about what this month will be like for her. One of the tumors is growing they told her.

Had fall like weather for a few days and it was so very nice, today and yesterday in the 80* again, I am all for the fall weather.

Have the house done, those 12 hour days were a lot for two old people for over 4 weeks. Glad it is over!

Thinking of course of all those whom life's have changed 10 years ago. I really think of the children after growing up without my dad and knowing how hard it was for mom until she fell in love again.

Take care all enjoy the beautiful Sunday!

Good morning to all!

Thought this was worth sharing...

The truth is, living in agreement with God will bring His conviction when we are disobedient. Conviction may feel like a
negative thing, but it's just as much a part of God as His
smile. He is committed to making our lives work in Him, and He
will use the strength and power of His conviction to let us know
when we are outside His will. It may feel bad, but conviction is
God at work in us.

Reynold and I went to Hanover PA on Sunday to see the Healing Field that was done by the Exchange Club. It so happened to be at my great niece's elementary school. They had rows and rows and rows of flags... 3,000 of them... along with yellow ribbons and a placard with the name of each person who lost their life on 9/11. It was an incredible site and the pictures on my facebook do not do it justice at all. Was able to sponsor one of the flags and went yesterday to pick it up. They gave us the flag along with the pole, placard and ground stake so we immediately were able to put it in our front yard. It truly was a moving experience for us.

Hello dear friends, hope this will be a blessing to you.

Seasons Of Ups And Downs
by Dennis Fisher

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. —Ecclesiastes 3:4

Most of us would agree that life has its ups and downs. Wise King Solomon believed this and reflected on our responses to fluctuating circumstances. In Ecclesiastes, he wrote: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: . . . a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance” (3:1-4).

Solomon’s father, David, was called “a man after [God’s] own heart” (1 Sam. 13:14; Acts 13:22). Yet David’s life illustrates how life is filled with seasons of ups and downs. David wept over his and Bathsheba’s first child who was fatally ill (2 Sam. 12:22). Yet he also wrote songs of praise and joyous laughter (Ps. 126:1-3). With the death of his rebellious son Absalom, David experienced a time of deep mourning (2 Sam. 18:33). And when the ark was brought to Jerusalem, David, in spiritual ecstasy, danced before the Lord (2 Sam. 6:12-15).

We do a disservice to ourselves and others when we portray the Christian life as peaceful and happy all the time. Instead, the Bible portrays the believer’s life as consisting of seasons of ups and downs. In what season are you? Whether a time of joy or sadness, each season should motivate us to seek the Lord and trust Him.

Dear Lord, help us to turn to You not only in sadness
but also in joy. We know You give us both good times
and bad to draw us to You and help us grow.
May we learn to trust You in all seasons of life. Amen.

Every season needs faith to get us through it.

Please, please pray for this sweet boy - Tyler and his family are in need of every prayer possible. Tyler has gone through over 45 surgeries, the family is in need of a major breakthrough from the Lord. Thanks so much.

This is the latest post on Tyler's site.

Hi everyone
It's three thirty in the morning and I couldn't sleep for worrying about my Tyty.

MUSC oncology called yesterday and we need a prayer chain started for Tyler, he is home with his family right now.

Please send to ever one you know. They found something in Tyler mouth right at his tonsils some kind of a lump or tumor said that they don't no what it is that they are taking it before the board. They said that they were sending all the scans to Dr Rodriguez's. Please pray that its not the cancer back. They said that it could be from the medal jaw. I know Tyler has gotten where he's in a lot more pain and cannot hardly swallow, was thinking last night how can it be from the medal jaw that is coming out but is up high just before the temple above the cheek.

Please please pray I am going today talk to some people about his birthday party .

Tyler tryed to get out of the house two days ago and was walking to garden of a friend's and he tripped and fell he got up crying and looked at Ashley and said, you wonder why i don't go out this is why I aways fall and get hurt, he still has to get the medal bars taken out of his legs.

The Greenville News is suppose to run his story but it hasn't been in there yet. I think they may have to wait till they can find space for it I will post a link when it comes out.

We still waiting to get the surgery dates in Maryland, maybe we will hear before long. Tyler said he want to get this surgery over with because he hurts. All Tyler's angels out their please please say a prayer for our boy. We are scared and don't no what the future holds for Tyler

Thank all that have helped us no mater how or what you have done we are so great full.

Tyler still loves the cars and his PO box is Tyler Tucker c/o Darlene Cox
PO BOX 14386
Greenville, SC 29610
if you like to send him a card .

Also pray for mom Ashley and the rest of our family. This is so stressful.

Our little ones just don't understand Nathan and Jayden think they should go with us the Dr's and hospital but they have to be left behind so they can go to school. Nathan is Tyler's cousin who has been with Tyler, Jayden and Ethan for four years. Nathan is four and Jayden is five, Ethan's will be three in Jan.

Seems like Tyler can not get a break.

We feel sure the coyotes got his dog but he now has a new puppy thanks to grandma Gail and aunt Tiffany.

On top of everything else the roof own Tyler's mobile home started leaking and soaked the ceiling and the carpet. Grandpa got up there and tried to patch it but found more bad spots. then the darn septic tank messed up and we had it pumped out its filled back up in a week so the line is stopped up it will be trying to get it fixed this week. Now the washer has messed up and they have to stand and watch it or it runs over in the floor gosh wonder what Else can go wrong. I just do what I can and put it in gods hands.

IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK THIS FAMILY WOULDN'T HAVE ANY LUCK AT ALL,

All this is small next to what Tyler is going through most important is prayers for Tyler ask God to help my boy please we love you all and thank you.

Good morning and happy Monday!

Why Is It Essential To Hear God?
by Jon Walker

A lot of people think it’s not so important to hear from God. But you should not be satisfied with that attitude. You need to be hearing from God on a daily basis. Why? There are three reasons why it’s absolutely vital for you to be able to hear directly from God.

SCRIPTURE:

“My sheep recognize my voice and follow me.” John 10:27 (NLT)

REFLECTION:

1. It proves you’re in God’s family. When you are tuned in to God and hear from him, it confirms your relationship. Because God talks to his children. John 10:27 says, “My sheep recognize my voice and follow me” (NLT).

Just as parents talk to all their children, God talks to all of his kids. He doesn’t just single out the pastors or the missionaries, or those who have been Christians the longest. He talks to all believers, whether they are mature or immature.

And just as children recognize their parents’ voices, we should be able to recognize God’s voice. Now babies don’t instantly know their parents’ voices, but as they grow, they naturally begin to recognize mom or dad’s voice and can hear it anywhere. It’s the same with us. As we grow spiritually, it becomes easier to hear God.

2. It protects you from mistakes. If you listen to God, you’ll make fewer mistakes because you’ll hear him warning you in advance. Proverbs 3:6 says, “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, and everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (MSG).

Notice the verse didn’t say just in church; it says, “in everything you do, and everywhere you go.” I couldn’t count the number of times God has saved me from wasting time, wasting money and wasting energy because I listened to him.

3. It produces success in life. This is not the kind of success the world talks about where you’re famous and filthy rich. This is God’s definition of success – being exactly who God made you to be so that your life can have meaning.

“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8 NLT). Did you know that the best pathway for your life is different than the best pathway for someone else’s life? And if you try to follow somebody else’s pathway you’re life will be filled with problems.

God has a customized pathway for you, and if you follow it you will succeed.

Hello All,

Thank you for the devotional once again Caterina.

Hasn't it been a beautiful September! Our leafs are just starting to change, sunny and warm during the day and just right for a small wood fire in the evening.

Mom, got to go home last Saturday from rehab. in the nursing home. Hope things go good for her at home , she has so been looking forward to that day. She remains so fearful of falling when she has to walk.

Got back from the Mayo clinic for DH yearly check up. Was not able to get the MRI but Dr.'s felt with the one last year and physically checking him he can wait until next year. Why is our trust so much better with a new MRI showing no growth.

Well hope all is well with all of you, it has been quite around here when I check in but quite can be good !

Thought to share this quote for today.

Have you been called to go out on a limb for God? You can bet it won't be easy. Limb-climbing has never been easy. Ask Joseph. Or, better yet, ask Jesus. He knows better than anyone the cost of hanging on a tree.

Thought to share this inspiration from Coles Foundation

Jesus Should Always Get Our Highest Priority
by Jon Walker

Jesus will not share our affection for him with anyone else, not even our own families. If you are faced with a choice between loyalty to him and loyalty to your father or mother, sister or brother, you must choose Jesus.

If you are faced with a choice between your own interests and the interests of Jesus, you must choose for Jesus. Think about Peter warming his hands by the fire. Someone says, “Aren’t you one of his disciples?” Will Peter choose for Jesus or for himself?

We face the same decision every day at school, at work, among our friends and even within our families. Jesus appears ruthless as he commands you to give preference to him over anyone else, including the greatest love of your life, your best friend, even your own mother.

But we misunderstand Jesus if we think what appears to be ruthlessness emerges from mean-spiritedness, self-interest, or even callous insensitivity. Jesus always has the endgame in mind, and he wants us with him in heaven, so he insists we re-center into his image.

Jesus isn’t saying we can’t love others or make others a priority in our lives; he is saying he should be our highest priority. When you think of Jesus, could you ever think of him as having greater loyalty to anyone but the Father? Yet Jesus also loves us dearly, so much that he gave his life for us.

SCRIPTURE:

Those who come to me cannot be my disciples unless they love me more than they love father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and themselves as well.
(Luke 14:26 TEV)

REFLECTION:

Signs Jesus may not be the highest priority in my life:

There are Jesus things and secular things. I can keep them separate.
I might miss out on something if I make Jesus my highest priority.
Two people can share my highest loyalty: Jesus and _________.
In a conflict of loyalties, Jesus always gets the higher priority. Who or what gets the highest priority in your life?

Caterina, how have you been feeling? So look for your devotional to pop up when I open my mail.

Leaves are really starting to fall the last few days, glad we got to go for a nice drive to our daughter's home last weekend. Leaves, grass, sky made for such an enjoyable ride. Funny how we don't notice the different colors of green in the summer time but fall comes and all come together in such a palate of color!

Mom, continues to be doing well at home , only fearful when having to lay down and turn when in bed. Had a Dr. appointment for legs and he feels most likely will never heal but trying a new treatment they use on burn patients to encourage skin growth.

Had a card and note from friend Janie, was so nice to hear from her, have missed our on line chats so much. Wrote "I am still hanging in there". So feel she is not doing very good.

DD had a biopsy today and will find out results next week. Please pray for her to guide the Dr. in her treatment.

Louise, thought of you last week when we went to a German fall dinner. Got so excited came home and went to All recipes .com and copied recipes that I found there. Can't wait to try some of them. Have you had German apple cake?

Well will say good night, and thanking you all for being here for so many in prayer.

It's been a while since I've been here, I hope everyone is well. I enjoyed catching up on the devotionals, and I'll also continue praying for all of you and the requests that you post here.

Life has been moving very quickly along here, with the kids starting school. There are always so many open houses and events to attend this time of year. Plus, oldest DS decided to join the cross country team this year, so I've been busier picking him up from practice and going to meets. He's doing incredible, usually placing in the top five out of sixty-some runners. Youngest DS joined the school orchestra, so he is learning to play the violin. Interesting sounds that these kids make sometimes.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Friday!

A No-Smiling Policy

By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. —John 13:35

Usually we’re told to smile before someone takes our picture. But in some parts of the US, a no-smiling policy is enforced when getting your photo taken for a driver’s license. Because of identity theft, these motor vehicle departments carefully check new photos that are taken to be sure they don’t match photos already in the system. If someone gets a picture taken under a false name, an alarm is sent to the operator. From 1999 to 2009, one state stopped 6,000 people from getting fraudulent licenses. But why no smiling? The technology recognizes a face more easily if the person has a neutral facial expression.

Jesus prescribed a good way to recognize a Christian. He told His disciples, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). The ways to show love to fellow believers are as endless as there are people with needs: a note of encouragement, a visit, a meal, a gentle rebuke, a prayer, a Bible verse, a listening ear, even just a friendly smile.

The apostle John wrote, “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren” (1 John 3:14). Can others recognize, by our care for fellow Christians, that we know and love the Lord? —Anne Cetas

For Christians to be recognized
As people who follow the Lord,
Their love for one another is
A virtue that can’t be ignored. —Sper

One measure of our love for God is how much we show love to His children.

Hi ladies, I'd like to ask you to pray for my cousin and her family. They learned yesterday that their 20 year old son died in a car accident. I don't know a lot of details yet (they don't live near me) but they are devastated and will need a lot of prayer and support now. I've really been appreciative and thankful for my children today.

Julie, how terribly tragic! Cannot imagine the pain they are goring through. May the Lord truly surround them with His loving comfort and peace.

Julie .... I'm so sorry to hear of the tragic death of your cousin's son! As soon as I read your email I stopped and had prayer for your cousin and her family. May the Lord encircle them with His loving arms and comfort them.

Good morning dear friends!

ENABLED TO ENCOURAGE

"...think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you...We have different gifts, according to the grace given us... if it is encouraging, let him encourage."
(Romans 12:3, 6, 8 )

The message of the encourager comes out of and goes back to the grace of God in Christ. Encouragement is not just "steps to success," though it may sometimes include those. Bookstore shelves are filled with "top sellers" outlining success strategies. But the heart that has been moved by and captured by Christ has the encouragement that surpasses all others.

Paul tells us to encourage others if, by the grace of the Lord, we have been given the ability to do so. Take every opportunity to be an encouragement to others and not tear them down. "Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Perhaps you've been the recipient of encouragement from a friend. Thank God today for him or her. But even if that is not so, know that you have been the recipient of encouragement coming from the Word of God. Where you find Christ's words of encouragement, love and hope, you find the Bible outshining any book you could buy.

Good morning to all!!

Short but powerful...

There is hope...

You can turn back to God,
because He has not turned His back on you.

You can hold on to God,
because He has not released His hold on you.

You can love God again,
because He has never stopped loving you.

This comes from a praise book that I read daily by Ruth Myers. It especially spoke to me and hope it will be encouraging.

Father, I thank You for the people in my life who seem to bring more pain than joy, for I believe You have let our paths cross for important reasons. Thank You for the good things You want to do in my life through the things that bother me (their irritating habits? their moodiness? their unloving ways? their demands? their insensitivity? their unrealistic expectations?). I'm grateful that You are with me, to meet my needs when others -- even those close to me -- fail to do so. I'm so glad that You are also with me, working to make me more like Jesus -- more patient, more gentle, more loving -- through the very things I dislike.

Thank You too that You love these people, and that Your love is adequate to meet their deep needs and to transform their lives, however willful or unwise they may sometimes be. Thank You that You care for them deeply, and that each of them has the potential of being a vast reservoir from which You could receive eternal pleasure. And so, though I may not feel grateful, I give thanks for them by faith, trusting Your goodness, Your wisdom, Your power, and Your love for them as well as for me.

And I praise You that I need not fret about these people, or be envious, or mull over angry thoughts to prove I'm right. Thank You that by Your power I can receive them as You receive me: just as I am, warts and wrinkles and hangups and all...that I can choose not to judge them, but to forgive them... to cancel any debts I feel they owe me -- any apologies, any obligations... that through Your grace, I can choose to wipe clean any slate of grievances I have within me, and to view these people with a heart that says, "You no longer owe me a thing". Thank You for Your Spirit who empowers me, so that I can do them good, delight in You, and commit my way to You, resting in You as You unfold Your good purposes in these relationships -- in Your time.

Caterina, thank you so much, So wonderfully written and so very true!

Rita, I was thinking the same as you as I read this, to copy and put in my Bible, made a copy for DH for his Bible also.

So sorry it has been so many days since stopping in to say hi to everyone. No, excuse for not taking the time. Hope all are well.

Been getting things ready for winter and heard yesterday we can have 65 inches of snow this winter..... oh, I do hope they are way off and we get much less! Like my friend said last night, it is less then what we had last winter!

Had some of the kids and grand kids here the last couple days, what fun to watch them play in all the leaves. Don't they look at things different then we do... for them they are fun and for us work. Makes me wonder why I couldn't wait to "grow up".

Julie, how is your family doing? Louise, how are you? Nanner?

Well better get going, got the house cleaned and now want to get the binding on my quilt.
