Heart Card Drive #1 - Hospice of St. Francis

Welcome to our first Falliday Fest card drive of the challenge!

Today's card drive is for a wonderful organization - the Hospice of St. Francis.

As many of you may know, hospice is such a blessing to people nearing the end of life. They provide peace for both patients and families, and give compassionate care and dignity for the critically ill.

A wonderful woman reached out to us last year asking for cards for their patients, and even just from her email you could feel the love she has for their patients, and her incredible gratitude for the power of a handmade card to lift spirits. She really touched our hearts and we have continued to work with her through our Cards for a Cause challenge, and are thrilled to make her dream of birthday cards for all the hospice patients a reality.

When Teresa Kline - the incredible woman behind Cards for a Cause, sent me this, I got more than a little misty. This is the power of a handmade card.

"One of our patients who survived longer than the typical six months and was on our services for a almost two years remembered receiving one of the cards on his birthday the year before, and literally told his nurse he was going to hang on until his next birthday because he knew we would send him another beautiful card. He made it to his next birthday and was all smiles when he got his card!! Hope you enjoy hearing this because it is a true measure of the good you are doing.Thank you so much, Teresa!"

Their biggest need is birthday cards. Each card should be blank inside, and sent with an envelope. Let's make Mary's wish come true to have a handmade card for every patient at the ready.

Please package your cards carefully and mail them to:

Mary Larson, Volunteer Coordinator
Hospice of St. Francis
4875 North Wickham Road, Suite 104
Melbourne, FL 32940

Please note - this hospice would LOVE to receive your birthday cards year-round - not just for this challenge.

Hi Lydia,
Is this opportunity still available? I see it is an old post but perhaps there is still a need. If so, I would love to participate! Thanks!

Thank you, Lydia. What a worthy cause! I will make some cards this week to send to the hospice. It is so touching to learn that a simple card can be reason enough for someone to have the will to live.

Hi Lydia, Could you explain just how this works please? Do we mail cards-what cards-to this hospice and how many? Sounds fun. Thanks
