Congratulations, Greenie! Great Googling!!!

The Dutch adopted a ball made of white leather and filled with cow's hair which was used in the local game of kaatsen (hand tennis). It is possible the kaatsen ball later inspired the Scots to invent the "feathery" sometime in the 17th or early 18th century as a subsitute for the wooden ball which was probably the popular ball of choice of the day. The "feathery" consisted of a leather casing, usually bull's hide, soaked in alum and crammed with goose feathers which have been softened by boiling. The ball was then knocked into shape and painted white so as to make it more visible. On drying, the ball became tighter and firmer. It weighed about the same as the modern ball (that is, 1.62 ounces) and was usually a of similar size although in there was no uniform diameter in those days. The average player used four balls per round as the "feathery" had a tendency to split and get too damp. Each "feathery" was stuffed with more than a top-hatful of feathers. The "feathery" had two differences from the balls preceding it. Firstly, wooden balls could seldom be propelled more than 100 yards whereas distances of more than twice that could be easily achieved with the "feathery". In wet weather, when the ball became rather soggy, its advantage over the wooden ball was not so marked. It is worth noting that the very act of stiching up the finished "feathery" inadvertently assisted the flight of the ball. This was because the seams fulfilled a similar, if cruder, role to that played by the dimples which help the modern day golf ball get airborne. The second difference of the "feathery" from the wooden ball was its price. A "feathery" cost twelve times the price of the old boxwood ball and about the same as a wooden club. It made golf far too expensive for the ordinary man. Even the most skilled craftsman struggled to produce more than four "feathery" balls a day which probably accounted for its high price.

The less wealthy had to make do with wooden balls for decades after the coming of the "feathery" and it is from this era that golf's image as a rich man's pastime still lingers.

I got that last trivia question off an instant oatmeal packet and then did a little research. Still learning!! Now, I'm off to make my TSC card! I will have another trivia question later.

I'm glad you are alright. We have been praying. Did they find your DD's friend?

I was out in my car when I first moved to MO. I didn't know much about tornadoes. It was like someone turned a fire hose on my windshield for awhile; I had to pull over. I was on my way to the mall and I was the only one out wondering where everyone else was. It touched down about 1/2 mile from me. When I got inside the mall people were freaking out asking what I was doing out there!

Just wanted to let you all know we survived the second rounds of storms. It was pretty hairy for awhile. Lena, Bella and I were caught out in it. The sirens were going off, it was spooky, I was driving 50 mph down our road. We were the only car on the road. (dummies I guess) Glad we have a basement. We ended up with 9 dogs, 2 guinea pigs and 9 people down here today.

Okay, next week's challenge...

How about having to have something on your card that can move. It could be like those slot and penny roller things or it could be something that pops up or it could be something else that moves...

If you don't like that - make a paper pieced card that is CAS.

Can you believe this weather?!!

Today: Plentiful sunshine. High 67F. Winds light and variable.
Tonight: Mainly clear. Low near 30F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Tomorrow: Partly cloudy skies. High 67F. Winds SW at 15 to 25 mph.
Tomorrow night: Mainly clear skies. Low 34F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph.
Tuesday: Windy with rain and snow showers. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper teens.

67 degrees today and tomorrow; then, low 40's with rain, snow and wind on Tuesday!!

Great Googling, Silly! You are correct!! Yay!

Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by scoring 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It is widely considered one of the greatest records in basketball. Chamberlain set five other league records that game including most free throws made, a notable achievement for the poor free throw shooter.

Hi everyone. Did everybody have a good Sunday? I had every excuse in my head why I shouldn't go to church this morning. Well the more reasons I came up with I began to get mad. I knew it was Satan talking in my ear. I went to church and had a glorious day! I was being lazy. Don't get me wrong I miss church but I just knew today I was trying to make excuses to myself so I wouldn't feel guilty. Do I sound crazy?! Well I am a little!!

Brat I will probably going the CAS way too. I love CAS cards. That's what my TSC card started out to be but making those flowers was time consuming.

CA our weather has been all over the place too. It was to be warm this weekend but it's been cold and damp. Yesterday we had snow for a little while. Great big flakes. Then when I was fixing dinner tonight we had a snow shower again. Supposed to be in the mid 60's here on Wednesday. Weird.

I started Weight Watchers last Thursday. I have got to get this weight under control. I'm sick of it. Pray for me because I'm sure you all know how hard it is. My downfall is I like to bake and I like to cook sometimes. I've grown sick of cooking because I have to do it everyday. But I could bake everyday! I used to eat very healthy until I came to the midwest. The more carbs the better!

I'm with you Silly! I've been on a diet, but I can't seem to fit in enough exercise. I have lost about 10 pounds though. I guess I just want it off faster! I need to lose about 50 more pounds; then, I'll just have to work at keeping it off!! I think my downfall is salty snacks and eating at night time. We have to change our lifestyles if we're going to get anywhere with this.

Hey CA! That is great about the 10 lbs.

Sylvia - You CAN do it! Think oven roasted "baked" sweet potato fries. And oven roasted asparagus with garlic and just a little olive oil. Think Pico d'Gallo and smooshed, healthy made guacamole.

Slice up an apple, sprinkle it with cinnamon and microwave until tender. I kid you not - it is GOOD - and it smells like apple crisp!

If you do all white meat ground turkey with lots of spices you will not miss burritos, tacos, or spaghetti. My kids love it, their friends love it.

Think whole grains. Whole wheat sour dough bread - oooh do you bake bread?

Black/green tea fusion hot or iced.

We could share food ideas and how to make things healthier. We could INVENT things!

There - now snack healthy SISTAHS!

Brat Girl, you're making me hungry!! LOL! I'm going to go have my breakfast now. I have half of a breakfast quesadilla. The recipe serves 2, so I made it and cut it in half. It has a whole wheat tortilla, 3 scrambled eggs, 2 oz. reduced fat PepperJack Cheese, a little salt and pepper, and can be topped with a small amount of salsa. I will also have some blueberries, 6 oz. V-8 juice and some herbal tea with Truvia to sweeten it. Sound good?

Thank you, Terri. The friend was at her son's who had a complete pile of rubble from his apt.. Thankfully she is ok and so is the son.

I am bad about saying, oh it doesn't look bad, I will have time to go do a couple of errands. Yeah, right.

Those MO people thought you were really a brave one.

Lovely Driver, you are too funny!! LOL!

BTW, according to my research, after they gave up on the "feathery" golf balls, some time later, the insides were made of what they called "rubber yarn". That's the same as rubber bands to me!!

Love your breakfast CA! I can't have the cheese, so I would have had lots of salsa. It's good for you with very few calories. Now I am craving SALSA! But, that's okay I can make some later and it's good for us!

Shirt - I'm glad your friend and her son are okay. How very scary! I have been praying for all those people left without homes and loved ones.

Also - the trick to not eating everything in sight is to not have those bad things in the house AND to have lots of things that you like that are good for you. It gets easier as time goes by too.

Therefore, DO NOT live with an eight-year-old Girl Scout named Vanessa during cookie season!!! It is not always easy to have stacks of Girl Scout cookies all around at this time of year. They are mostly kept in the trunk until they are sold!

Campanology is the study of bells; their casting, tuning, and ringing.

I liked your first guess, Wendy.....the study of camping...LOL!!!

Oh yeah! Greenie did it again!!! You are correct!!!

Campanology is the study of bells. It encompasses the technology of bells how they are cast, tuned and sounded as well as the history, methods, and traditions of bell-ringing as an art.

I have seen in a couple different churches, a bell-ringing musical group, and to see them combine so many people ringing bells to do an entire composition is amazing!!

Yes, and the British have been good at it for centuries! I always see something with bell ringers in it around Christmas time, and, weren't there bell ringers in Mary Poppins??

OK, sorry for the absence, but have been trying to get caught up with a LOT of stuff here at my house, plus BB games and a grade school reunion of ALL the alumni! This was the first ever, and we only had 3 from my class - they are trying to establish an alumni group and are trying to spread the word. Had a very nice dinner, toured the school (looks a lot smaller now that I am older-LOL) and a bit different too since I was there - 53 yrs ago!!! AAAAAghhhhh! where did the time go???

Brat girl - how' Spence doing??? Get that cast off yet - how is his arm?? Glad to see you shariing tips for dieting and losing weight!!

Tater - how are you doing since you had that spot taken off - I am hoping that is the last you see of it - and your bowling team needs you too , right?? Just be watchful so you don't have any more problems!!

Lesley, was Mark away this weekend?? Did you get to do anything special?? Sending you a little PM about something, ok?

CA, I think your Mom must eat her oatmeal every day religiously for you to keep coming up with all these trivia questions!! LOL, I started to read MINE!!!

Kathy, you are one busy gal, I found a card or 2 that I missed commenting on - you are on so many DTs right now, I don t know how you do it!!

Sylvia- sounds so much like you are running non stop - or CLEANING no stop because of the way you heat the house - I don't know that I could even keep up with you - with all that and cooking and baking too.

SHirt, I wondered how your weekend and Monday went today - everything going okay in the aftermath of those tornadoes - I am so thankful you did not get them bad where you live again. too scary!!

Pat - Keeping your concerns , as well as all the other Sistahs close to my heart. Hope all is well with the infamous Smethers gang and your critters - hope Cracker is back to normal.

Has Christina hopped the bus lately - haven't seen hide nor hair for a while now - hope it is because she is busy!!

Hoping to get a few challenges worked on tomorrow and get my class ready for Sunday----

Hugs to all - LYMI!!

Greenie! I must apologize! Spencer got his cast off on Thursday! He can take showers by himself, wash his hands, and generally smell better! Now he is taped for three weeks. They said he will have pain for months and it will take months to get finger and wrist mobility. Plus, he needs to build his muscle strength back up in his dominant hand. Since he was held down so long he is also running laps trying to get his stamina back up. Soccer practice starts this month!

He NEVER complains about the pain and he is doing well.

PRAISE GOD!

Smooches to ALL the Sistahs!

So glad to hear he's doing well! Sounds like he's a tough little guy! Will he need to go to PT? Still praying for complete healing.

Yep, weird weather! Yesterday it was at least 70, but today's high is expected to be in the 30's!! High winds, too, so there's a wind chill factor!

I have to take Eddie to his appointment today, but Alicia's coming over to stay with my mom.
