Hi Ladies. Hope wherever you are, your cooler than here. It's 96 degrees and with only 1 room has a/c. YIKES!!!!
I am hoping you can all help me out. As many of you know, last year hurricane Sandy devestated the NY NJ area. I am on Long Island and we were hit pretty bad. We also have a local Government contractor (Northorp Grumman) here that is now closing. As a result, my business is in a state of disaster.
We used to do a number of home parties and we were content to do that.
Sadly, three of the four hostesses will not be hosting this year due to either Sandy related problems or loss of job from Grumman.
So, I am looking for new avenues for my business. My favorite aspect, card making was never as big a seller as I had hoped. So, much of my investment there has not gone well.
We bought cutting machine and I started making custom wine glasses, names, wedding parties etc....that too has fallen off. My business was started by doing candy bar wrappers. That phase has come and gone too.
So, now I sit here staring at a computer (which I had to borrow because mine blew up a few weeks ago and we can't replace it until we have a few sales), trying to figure out what my next BIG thing can be.
Does anyone have any craft sites they can recommend for good ideas?
I am going back to look for a woman who sold 100's of cards a year to see how she marketed herself. I'm not looking for others to do the work for me, I just need guidance to find where to look.
If anyone can make ANY suggestions, please let me know.
You might join Craftster. There are lots of ideas, tutorials, and good forums for sharing ideas. Here is a link:

Also, on Etsy they have forums with different ideas for marketing and selling items. Check them out. I went there a lot when I was doing some local craft fairs. Here's a link. Look on the top and click on Community. There are forums and discussions about lots of stuff.
Etsy - Your place to buy and sell all things handmade, vintage, and supplies
Both of these are free to join and participate. Etsy charges fees if you want to open a shop and sell online.
So sorry about the hurricane damages to your area.
I live in Oklahoma, and we have had more than our share of tornado devastation this year, so I feel for you.
I will sure say a prayer for your situation.
