Default Plus size clothes: Sizing? Buying?

I've crossed the threshold into plus-size clothing and am totally confused about how the sizing system works and where to find nice styles and good quality.

How does the sizing work? What's the difference between a size 14 and 14W, for example?

Where do you shop for clothes and in which sections of the store?
What online sites and catalogs do you like?

Thank you so much!

W has larger bust to waist ratio, and larger armholes. Pants have a larger waist to hop ratio. It depends on your proportions which fits better.

For me, a 42H on top, it's women's sizes all the way. Women's petite pants fit me better than women's because the crotch length is shorter. (when seated, that's the distance from your waist to the chair. When it's the right length for you, the crotch won't be half way to your knees, it will be up where it should be - making you look smaller)

I like Talbot's Woman (expensive) and Land's End.

I have found that a 14W and a 16 Regular are similar in size. I am able to fit into either one about the same. 16W seems to be bigger in the bottom and legs but not much bigger in the waist. There is a difference in the rise as well...a 14W, for instance tends to sit higher in comparison to my belly button than a 16 Regular

They are pricey but for jeans go to Lane Bryant and try their T3 line. I promise, you won't be disappointed. I'm sad that I am losing weight and soon won't be able to wear mine anymore.

I've gotten some nice stuff at Dress Barn recently. I have some nice jeans from Avenue and Lane Bryant as well.

Do you have any Peter Harris or Label Shopper stores nearby? I swear by those no matter which "side" I have to shop on (they carry regular and plus).

Not Your Daughter's Jeans are my favorite jeans. Women with Control are the only polyester dress pants I have never felt like a sausage in.
I lived on the side of a mountain in North Idaho for three years, 35 miles from plus sized anything, and had the best luck buying online with HSN and QVC, because you can see it on a model.
