You need to check this out

well ladies I am off to bed.

Question to ponder.. for the envelopes.. do I try to run them through my printer? Use Address labels, or hand write them?

say, couldnt you hand write one envelope then scan and print the rest? it would still be your writing but not all the work!

the cartridges only work in a cricut, but you could cut something out then run through the bigshot to emboss it!

Hi Ladies, do you mind if I join in? I've been a longtime lurker here at SCS and got roped in by the thread title here! I try to live as drama-free of a life as I can, cause MAN can it sap the ole mojo! I live up in Northern MN, near Duluth, and travel down to Eau Claire WI every couple of months to stamp, so I'm somewhat "regional" for a few of you gals! I'm also one of those people who thinks nothing of 3 hours in the car each way just for a day trip!

I sure am! I'm a hobbyist, really, but the local girls place enough orders that I can pretty much get all my stuff for free! But I find myself addicted to SU! also, so I'm not picky! I actually had one of my friends who is a SU! demo put together a color ring for me of all the solid color cs swatches, so I can play along with the color challenges easier! heehee

yah, but now they are retiring a bunch of their colors. That's OK though, because I am already in love with a bunch of the new SU colors. I have to admit that I am an SU junkie.

Any chance you wanna share your name...or do you just want us to call you ms rabbott?

Oh...FREE IS ALWAYS GOOD!!!!

Oh sorry about that! I'm Rachel, I really should add that to my signature line! I got a lot of bunny jokes when I married a fella with the last name of Abbott, so I just ran with it!

Speaking of free and good, I keep checking my email for notification of some blog candy I just won on Sunday! I tell ya, Friday can't get here soon enough!

Awww! Happy Early Birthday! I was really happy to find this thread, and just by paging through it seems like I have a lot in common with you gals, especially sense of humor! I have four fur-babies, one of which was a stray and bit me and we had to do the whole rabies testing thing! He now sits in my lap as I work, so everything turned out well. I work from home, and my "office" and scrap room are in the same space, so some days it is VERY hard to work! Especially when it's as beautiful as it is today!

Yep...my office window is open. I am switching jobs however and my new office doesn't have windows that open. Bummer. At home my office/craft room is one in the same.

I don't have children, but I do have an almost 9 year old black lab named Cheyenne. She is my pride and joy. Glad your bit incident turned out well. Whew! Vikki has more fur babies than I do.

Too funny, my 5 1/2 year old black lab is named Sadie Lou! We also have a half lab/half Mastiff named Daisy Mae, but they're pretty evenly matched size wise. We also have two cats, one boy and one girl. The girl is very fat and sassy, and the boy is just a little runt. He's the one that bit me, and I ended up with the whole 9 yards: infection and swelling and all that fun stuff.

oh that's frustrating! I upgraded my laptop a few months ago, and i have a high-res scanner, and then a scanner/printer combo both attached to the laptop. Go figure, I can't get either scanner to work with the new laptop! Then last night I discovered my printer doesn't like printing my digi stamps!

Hi Guys,

A quick hello from over here. It has been freezing at night this week (ok, zero degrees), but the days are still beuatiful if you are outside. I have my 16 month old neice today as my Sister was asked to work and we are about to go to swimming lessons. Should be interesting.......

Vikki, I am so glad you have come out of the closet on FB. How did the family take it all. It will all go so fast and there will be amillin things to do. Does that make you feel good? No, seriously, you will enjoy all of the things you have to do I am sure. It is so much more fun doing it yourself.

Anyway, off to swimming...

Hello everyone! All I can say is that I had a WONDERFUL morning reading up on everyone's posts while I had my coffee. I am still sipping before I go buy a ton of food for Katie's friends tonight...so I'll catch up! Get ready for a long post.....
Laurie..so sorry to hear about your Aunt. I know what you mean. My family gets along very well..but we do get snarky at times. Especially when it's a big family gathering. You would think we would be the nicest then..but no..we are easier in ones and twos! Congrats on the new job! Although it's hard to leave the old job..it's kinda nice they are sad to see you go! It means you work hard and they like having you around. Better than them saying WOOHOO...glad you're going, KWIM? Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR LAURIE, Happy birthday to youuuuuu! My gift is that you cannot actually hear me singing. I am so tone-deaf it's scary. Once when katie was a baby she was sick and I was rocking her and singing. She looked up at me and said "Mommy, please don't sing anymore, it's making my tummy hurt more." LOL! Out of the mouths of babes!
Holly- Ohhh you are sooooo making me want a cricut! That covered notebook is so flipping cute!!! I have a cuttlebug and have been perfectly happy with that...till I saw that cutie book. I was watching StampTV the other day (love that site!) and they had instructions on how to make a book similar to that--but not as cute. I'm making a notebook for my best friend's daughter's shower to take notes in. I ordered the stamp set they used on StampinTV to make it...now I'm thinking of that cute cricut one. I am so tempted..it's just so expensive. I'll have to think on it.
Vicki..Love your wedding favors. I think they are cute cute! I also love your new avatar. Such a nice picture. You mention Microsoft publisher. I have to say, I am not that computer smart myself. I have to do Katie's graduation invites and i was thinking of trying to do the whole "who what where and when" for the inside of the card on the computer. I just don't know how to make it work...how to get four to a paper (which is what I would get if stamping). I really am feeling like I should just buy them and get it over with...but everyone will expect a cute handmade invite. How does publisher work? Maybe I need to look into that along with the cricut.... I just am laughing here, just picturing myself spending like 300 bucks instead of 5.99 and just buying the dang invites! Oh well, if Jim only knew how much I don't "save" by making my own cards!
Kerri..How did the swiming lesson go with your neice? I bet it was fun. I can't think of it still being zero degrees at night. I just got to open my window at night. When does your spring really arrive so you can plant?
Rachel..Welcome aboard! I have two cats I call my babies. I love how they sleep with me at night. Jim, my husband, doesn't like it so much..LOL. But he's gotten use to it. The girl one "talks" all the time. The boy just gets into a lot of trouble ALL the time. He's the one in my avatar. I call them my babies but they are really two years old. So much fun.
Tonight is the big night for the prom with Katie. She's having a bunch of her friends slept over after the prom here. Oh my, what did I get myself into? Really I'm happy they are going to be here and safe. She is going with a bunch of girlfriends, no dates. They didn't want the drama. I will post pictures here hopefully tonight. I have a feeling I'm going to be up very late. She wants to cook out when they get back from prom at 11pm. Today I'm going to go food shopping and fill the fridge with snacks, candy, soda, and all that good stuff. I think I'll make some brownies so they can have brownie sundays. They are sleeping outside in the cabana--which is what use to be the garage. We don't have the pool open yet, and I'm kinda glad about that. They will have a firepit. I told Katie NO FIRE till the girls are out of those long pretty dresses and into jeans! Tomorrow I took off work to make them a HUGE breakfast. Katie said they will probably have breakfast tomorrow at like 2pm after being up all night. I don't care--I took the day off.
Sorry for the long post but I hadn't really caught up to you guys in a few weeks! Enjoy your day today!

If THAT wasn't long enough...lol...I forgot to add something. I was wondering how everyone would feel about giving out snail mail addresses? I would love to send cards. Maybe we could share Bday dates? It's so nice to get something in the mail besides bills! Let me know...it's fine either way. I know some folks don't like to have their addresses out there..

Hey Karen! Kerriann is in Australia, so I think their seasons are the opposite of ours. We are coming into summer and she is into winter....I THINK...sometimes taht hurts!

Thank you for singing! I am an AWESOME day singer. Cheyenne (my black lab) barks when I sing....must hurt her ears?!?!?

I'd be fine with an address swap too (although being the newbie it definately isn't my call!) There are a few girls in the region up here where we mail a "swap" card to eachother once a month, we leave the inside blank and just put in a slip of paper with a note. It's so nice to get happy mail each month! This way we still get to build our card stash, and keep in touch!

Karen - About the invites: I'm the Contract Cardmaker in the family, so I do these really often. I use just plain old MS Word to do mine, you can use the Table function to make a grid and then just type the info in there. Most computers have Word on them so that way you can tell the hubs how much more money you "saved!" This way too you can play with the fonts. Just be careful, if you use a Laserjet printer (like you would have at work) let the ink cure for a few minutes before you touch the text. I made the mistake of cutting right away after I printed some inserts, and the ink flaked off! If you use a regular household printer the ink won't flake, but it might smear if you hurry.

And on the talking pets thing, I really think they pick up on that when they're young! Both of my cats and one of my dogs are all talkers, but the other dog is not. Sadie (the non-talker) came to us as a stray when she was already about 8-10 months old, so her personality was pretty much set. All the other pets we got as babies, and I have always talked to them just like I talk to my husband. People say they don't understand English, but mine sure do!! Sadie is gradually getting to be more vocal, but partly I think she's a little embarrassed by her bark... her voice cracks like a 12 year old boy! LOL

We can't even spell words like walk or ride anymore because Cheyenne knows what that is. Yah...animals are not dumb!

Jimmy Johns just dropped off sample mini subs for us. How cool is that???

I'm so jealous! Our Jimmy's are way up in Duluth, and our Erbert & Gerberts won't deliver out this far! I'm heating up leftover curry for "first lunch"

I swear my girls can tell time, too. They know when 6:30 is, regardless of where the sun is in the sky! (6:30 is dinnertime)

well, the Cricut scared me away too for a long time because not only the price of the machines but the cartridges too! i mean, come on , $89 is tooo much!

BUT, since i mostly do cards and small things, i found a great deal on the "Create". it has all the functions of the Expressions just smaller and more afordable! and, i have hit some good deals on the carts too.......never at Micheals but online.

it sat in its packaging on my coffee table for 4 days before i was brave enough to open and play..... then i tried it and it is soooooo easy! lots to learn still with all the different functions each cartridge offers, but i am so glad i got one.

so if any of you find a good deal, snatch one up, you wont be sorry!

Chiming in on the Cricut thing... I actually bought one a few years ago, managed to accumulate all the tools and something like 15 cartridges for it.... and I NEVER used it! It ended up buried on top of a bookcase and when I finally realized I hadn't used it but only once in the past year, I sold it on Craigslist. And I think the one time I had used it in that year span, I didn't use what I cut out! It ended up not working for a project, so it's in my scrap drawer still! LOL It turns out, 11 of the cartridges had never even been inserted into the machine, so I decided I must not have loved it that much, so I sent it off to someone who WOULD love it and use it. It was the Expression, so maybe part of the problem was that it was so big and inconvenient to use.

For Christmas last year I bought a Slice off of Ebay. I bought it used, and the lady had said she had a hard time getting it to do what she wanted it to do and had just lost interest. I think there might be something wrong with it, but I called Slice and they are sending me a recalibration card for it, so that should fix any issues. I think I have used my Slice more in the last 6 months (even with it cutting wonky at times) than I ever used my Cricut. The main thing I used either machine for was the alphabets for titles and such. And my Slice takes up so little room on my scrap desk that I can just reach over and fire it up without having to un-bury the machine, and then find the mats for it.

I know a lot of people LOVE their Cricuts and get a lot of use out of them. And the cartridges they are coming out with now are so stinkin cute!! Everyone has their go-to tools, mine are my Nesties and I admit I have a bit of an addiction to them!

i have the Slice too, and even though it is a tempermental lil thing, i like it too. i sold all but my 2 fav cards for it though, as i wasnt using them much. i still get it out once in awhile for a quick cut or 2.

i also love Sizzix, and have a bigkick. i like to get it out now and then and use the dies. i have the SU scalloped square die that i use to cut the fabric for my purses! much fast than hand cutting!

so many toys, so lil time LOL................

LOL I use my Cuttlebug with my Nesties, and just got my first little Sizzix die from my SU! lady! Hrmmmm..... I should test it out tonight! (can you hear the gears turning?? )

Ok girls...PM me your info, and I will put together a lil address sheet for us! Kerriann and Vikki...let me know if you are in. I think the rest of us are. Vikki, I don't doubt you would be, but Kerriann, I just want to be sure.

It's really not that expensive to mail to Australia, and that makes me happy. Give me a few more weeks, and I will be back to stamping again! YEAH!

I do not have a Slice or Cricut, but I did invest in the Big Shot. I got it for a deal, and I am anxious to try it out.

I have a three day weekend, so I MIGHT try playing with it tomorrow. I am a bit nervous, but really excited too!

Awesome with the three day weekend! I took next Friday off for the VSN, so I'm pretty excited for that! I'm almost hoping for bad weather just so I have a good excuse to sit inside and stamp all weekend! On the other hand, we need to get our veggie garden planted, and next weekend is the one we usually do it on. I'll still have Sunday and Monday to plant, but we'll probably spend an entire day picking rocks out of our plots!

heres a funny for you....nothing has come of that storm yet, so we decided to throw some burgers on the grill real quick. but before we could, i had to rescue a baby tree frog from inside the grill! he's been living in there for a week now, although i dont know why! we also have a cameleon living in the extra burner to it as well! ugh......

anyways i took a couple of pics and soon as i can get them from my phone i will post.

Laurie, you will love the bigshot! sizzix dies and such are so cool!

Rachel, my fav cards are the 2 that were only suppose to come with the TV infomercial package. making memories had to replace my original machine, and as a lil incentive they sent those along with it! they have some holiday images, flowers, bugs, the basics shapes, fonts things like that.

Ohmygosh that's funny about the tree frog and the cameleon!! Knowing me though I'd have them in the house in a terrarium or something! Probably a good thing I live too far north!

I just went outside to water some of our containers, and I see one of my apple trees has about 60 buds on it! Wahoo!!! Unfortunately, the other tree has zero buds, but that one has been a slow starter since we planted it. I can see apple butter in my future!!
