Sorry for being MIA for so long, but major health problems in the family have really put me into a black hole.

Youngest step-daughter was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She is 37 and the mother of two boys, aged 16 & 12. Larry is not taking it well. We don't know the "plan" yet. She is meeting with UW MDs on Tuesday. One 2cm spot and several other small spots. This is not sounding good at all.
oh Sue,
I am so very sorry to hear this. Your family is in my Prayers.

Sue, I am so sorry. How terrible for such a young person. You will all be in my thughts and prayers, and please remember to keep us posted, or to just sound off - we are all very good listeners.
Vikki Jo - How exciting for you. And yes, December 27 is a good date Holly
It is freezing here this morning. OK, so it is not so bad, but it is just over 10 degrees in my kitchen and I had to put my gown and slippers on when I managed to get out from under the covers. I am going to have to start putting the automatic timer on the air con so that we wake up to warm.
Uni today. I have on online test this week, then a month to catch up on all my study before exams. I am struggling with company accounting a bit this semester. It is a stupid subject that I can't see any need for. I am not going to be in a super large company that is going to be taking over other companies ever - and if I was I would have a computer program that would do all of the calculating for me anyway. Browny told me that it must be of some use to someone, otherwise they wouldn't teach it. I told him that it would be as useful to him as learning to stand on his head. He told me that he would like to learn how to do that
All of our visitors have gone. Chris's Dad is a bit better and he has gone home to his family. His Dad should be going home on Tuesday and will have chemo in their home town. He still only has a few months though. Another friend of Browny's was down with his truck over the weekend and he stayed Friday night, and another friend of his stayed over on Saturday night(he is the one going through the divorce, and came out for a bit of a pick me up, I think).
We had fun with Annabelle. She helped wash the truck yesterday - I will post some pictures up later.

Sue--I did not get that PM--can you resend it?

By the end of the month, I will be putting them onto to eBay.

Lots of emotional things going on in my family right now and am trying to keep my sanity.

Having new pain now, right hip is getting worse. Hoping to hold off surgery as long as possible.

Work drama has shifted in perspective. One of my co-workers was escorted out of the building and the rest of us are on pins and needles. The person at the heart of the problem is leaving the department for another job after causing all the trouble. Oh well, gotta have health insurance, so I shut up and show up. Only 1,873 days until I retire.

It is after 5:00 on Sunday and we have had a great weekend.

It was raining and very windy yesterday, so we did plan B for the tailgating for the Brewer game. We went downtown Milwaukee before the game and took Pat and Wendy to one of our favorite places--Alem Ethiopian Village. We love how the food is served on a large round platter on Injera--a type flatbread with a unique, slightly spongy texture. You are also given rolls of it to "pick" up the food with your hands. The food is great!

Then, we went to the game and it was raining a bit as we walked to the Park. We had great seats out in left-field, on the foul line. No foul balls our way, but we saw a great game and a Brewer Win--I also won the "pass the buck" game--$3 richer! When the game was over, it was pouring and so windy outside--Miller Park has a roof on it, so we really did not know what was happening with the weather until we left. It was so windy, people were having a hard time opening the doors to the outside. So, off to the parking lot--15 minutes later, very wet and a bit cold!

By the time we got home at 7:30, we were not too hungry, so we had some snacks and played Rummy-Kub until close to 11:00. Pat and Wendy had this game in Colorado when we were there last year and we loved it, so I got it and we have been playing often ourselves.

Today, it is sunny, but very windy. After a coffee and the paper, we went on a walk to the store. When we got back, we had our tailgate here and grilled out along with eating all of the food I had prepared for yesterday. A few more games of Rummy-Kub and they headed to Green Bay to see Wendy's dad.

Not much happening tonight--just quiet time. We did not get as much rain as was in Milwaukee, but really could use some. We planted 40 small (18 inches tall) Black Hills Blue Spruce that we got last weekend from the Kiwanis Tree Sale. They had been sitting in pails of water and it was about time to get them into the ground--some have started to turn brown, so hopefully they will make it. It is to be cool this week yet, so that will help. We are on an acre and a half lot and want to have less lawn. So, around 30 of the trees were planted on a side hill that will be nice when they are grown. I wish we would have done that 10 years ago when we moved here, but it was not to be a long term house--oh well. It is now!

Barb, the trees are going to be fantastic! I am happy for you!

Sue, I am so sorry to hear your news. uck!

I have been working on graduation cards all day. A friend of mine asked me to make 20 for her in their school colors. I only have 2 graduation stamps, so I have been reaching into the depths of my mojo. Meanwhile, I have a very pretty card in my head for June BRAK, but I must finish these first as I am meeting her on Thursday! Oh my!

Holly, ribs are dinner tonight. Can you be here in about an hour???

Please send prayers up for my dearest friend (almost like a brother to me) Kenny who is having knee surgery tomorrow. I believe it's an outpatient surgery, but still...would appreciate the prayers.

Off to rest. I am coughing like crazy, but I don't like to take my cough medicine til bed time. That codeine knocks me out!

Prayers for you Sue and your family. I hate cancer..we have had difficulties with cancer with my sister 10 years ago when she was only 40.
Laurie, prayers for your friend AND you. It seems like you have been dealing with that cough LONG enough!
Vikki, I got your beautiful card! Thank you. How did you do the sparkle on the bird and flowers? It's just so pretty! Congrats on becoming a grammie! That will be so much fun.
Barbara, sounds like you had a wonderful time. I was sure a little rain, wind and cold would not stop you from having a great weekend!
Holly, How are you? Did I tell you I bought the pillbox die? I used up all the wonderful ones you sent at Christmas, and then just had to buy it myself!
Kerriann, good luck with the classes! I would be struggling also in that class. If I can't see a reason for how something would help me in the future, it's like my brain refuses to learn it!
This past weekend we brought Katie home from college for the weekend. It was great to get her home. Like the rest of the country, it was raining like all heck. It was not fun to load up the two cars in the pouring rain. Thank goodness for her college friends. Those girls were laughing and having the most fun as they got soaked helping load up the car!! Katie's college is right in the middle of the mountains, so it was a wild ride home. We drove right through the clouds. Today is more rain, tomorrow is more rain, actually all week they are saying it will rain. I'm off work for a few days. We have to get all of the stuff from the dorm sorted -- some will go up in the attic, some in her room, and some into the washer. Ugh, I hate even looking at the pile. Katie is still asleep so for now I will enjoy the morning with a cup of tea and the cat on my lap!

Hi Karen...yep, the cough is really hanging on, but mostly at night now. I can't help but wonder how much of this is due to Tom's smoking. He would disagree however.

Anyways! So glad Katie is home...for the summer now right???

Good Morning from sunny Wisconsin---cool, but great to not see any clouds!

I am working on ther June updates for the BRAK Volunteers today--the person on our committee who was to do it had her computer crash over the weekend, so I am doing her checks. We were very late in getting out the May assignments, so I want to be able to get them out on time this month. I have never done these before, so it might be a bit of a learning curve, but I am up for it. It is good that I had no other plans today, other than working on a swap.

Hope your Monday is Outstanding!

Holly, I feel much better, but I cannot get rid of this dumb coughing!

The part about the gasoline I don't get is this....for the what...3rd year in a row now...they are reporting RECORD PROFITS...yet the government is giving them huge tax breaks. I do not understand that. Record profits need to be taxed! This is some of the stuff that just annoys the socks off of me. I am middle class living very much so paycheck to paycheck, and I don't get these breaks! Nope...instead my health insurance premium each month that was GUARANTEED til July 2012 will be going up $31 a month as of June 1, 2011.

Sorry, I know that's a little all over the board, but it sure does get me fired up!

i'm right there with ya Laurie!

health ins is another issue that seriously needs fixing in this country!

there is no reason for policies to be so darned high and the cost of medical itself either.

i mean, for petes sake, our ancesters use to pay the Dr with food or supplies or even in trade, and look at it now!

crazy crazy stuff i tells ya!

Dinner tonight is left over ribs. He made a ton of food last night. He is a great cook though!

I am sleepy. I sure hope my diet coke kicks in soon!

So, I know Karen is swamped with life and asked one of us to take over the recipe card swap....is anyone interested or should I do it? I will if you all would like. We are doing 6x6 right?

I so agree. Our banks are making huge profits, and the average joe has no money in them because they are living week to week. Our health fund goes up $20 a month as of this month too. Damn ridiculous.

OK - my soapbox turn now. My Grandma lives ab out 45 minutes away and has to come in to the dental clinic for new dentures at 7.30am tomorrow. She then has to wait around all day until 3.30 to pick them up. So, my Aunt rang last week and said could she stay here all day. I am at uni, but siad that she could and that I would then take her home - I figured that was implied. Anyway, my Aunt has been unwell with really bad depression (I know what that is like, but still). Anyway, Mum rang on Sunday night suggesting that Mumma stay here tonight so that no one had to get her so early in the morning. I was nearly asleep and agreed that it was a good idea. Mumma calls me tomorrow - is it still alright for me to pick her up, otherwise she will catch the train here. She is nearly 88, so I say that I will go and pick her up instead of her catching the train as she has to get a bus to the next little town and then the train. I tell her that I will be there about 4pm, after I get the kids from school. Apparetly Mum can't come down and do it as she has been away all weekend, and they will be down next week to stay with Peta as the baby is due. Peta is not feeling wonderful as she is 38 weeks pregnant, and Aunty Janette is doped out of her mind. I am going to the Doctor today as I have been really tired, nauseas, headaches, and just plain yucky, but don't tell any of them that.
So, Browny rings last night and says that the truck is having the radiator fixed and can I come and get him on Wednesday morning when he drops the truck off. I tell him that I have to take Mumma to the hospital and drop her off, come back for the boys, take them to school and then be at uni for 9am, but I can come and get him, and be late for uni. Oh no, says he, I'll be OK (in that dejected tone of voice letting me know that he thinks that he is at the bottom of the food chain). So he calls this morning and says that he will try to have the truck there this evening and then I can pick him up. Problem is that I have the school run and then have to go and get Mumma. So now I have to organise the boys to catch the bus and to pick Mumma up earlier so that I can go and get him. And he wonders what I do all day??

We were very late in getting out the May assignments, so I want to be able to get them out on time this month. I have never done these before, so it might be a bit of a learning curve, but I am up for it. It is good that I had no other plans today, other than working on a swap.

Hope your Monday is Outstanding!
huge hugs to you Barb that's a huge list of ppl! But like Laurie said.. you can do it!

So sorry about the other ladies computer

The bank drives me nuts.. they think I need $2500 balance at all times. Where is that gonna come from?
Or matching funds to cash my pay check! really?

banks are so stupid,
ours just charged us $3 for an inactive ATM card. if we dont use it once every three mo's we will now be charged! how stupid is that? we both have a card but its easier to just use mine if we are together, and whenever he needs $ he just lets me know and i get it for him.
so, we had his card canceled.
it is a new rule they just invented.
i am ready to take our $ out and keep it in a mayo jar LOL

ok, gotta run for dinner..............

Thanks for the support ladies--it is done! It took around 5 hours, with breaks. At least I know how to do it now. It was probably longer than it should have been as it seems the checks were not done in 2010 as there were names on this year that they have not been active since 2006-07-08-09----those should have been removed last year--not sure why they were not. There were 130+ inactive RAK names on the list!

Laurie--I am not interested in doing the recipe swap--sorry. I just do not enjoy doing them.

Bet Bug wasn't too happy!

Speaking of Bug.. she is naming the baby either Taylor (for a girl) or Mike (after the dad)
There are just so many Mike's in my world! LOL

My nephew that was the same age as me was Mike, (he was killed in 1993) my sister Raye named her boy after him. My niece Missy married a Mike, my niece Marla married a Mike.
Rachel's hubby is Mike too!
Our Corporate consultant is Mike, my boss's brother is Mike

Speaking of Rachel.. where is she? I really like the cards she had for us to make yesterday. they are in my gallery and on my blog

I gotta go back outside.
Joe helped me move this railing for a stairway to my garden (I have no cue where it came from)
but rocks needed to move for it to go where i wanted it to

So, I know Karen is swamped with life and asked one of us to take over the recipe card swap....is anyone interested or should I do it? I will if you all would like. We are doing 6x6 right?
A recipe that we would bring to the anniversary dinner party right?

Girls, you are going to love this.
I went to the Dr this morning. I have had headaches, nasea, am tired all the time, can't concentrate, have no energy and basically feel unwell and don't feel like doing anything. He had blood tests done for anaemia and glandular fever, but he thinks that I am suffering from the medical condition EXHAUSTION. I kid you not. Now, I agree, but how do you think the family is going to take it?? He wants me to take the rest of this week and next week of uni and rest. Don't know how that's going to work with exams so close, but we shall see. I might just have to defer this semester's exams until next semester and take a break.

kerriann....you need to take care of yourself NOW or it will be more difficult to care for later...remember that when you are making your decisions. I will be praying for you for a well deserved rest!

Kerriann, please follow Karen's advice and take care of yourself NOW. You need to care for yourself. You have been so busy the past year (at least) taking care of everyone else....you need to take care of YOU now...Hugs and prayers and love!
