Default Need Used Car Ideas for Teen Daughter

Hi,

My daughter will be 16 in June, and since she might be working then, I am looking to get her a used car. The only two things I am concerned with are safety and cost, in that order. Does anyone have any suggestions? A few things to consider: we live in northern Illinois so there could be some inclement weather driving; most of the drives will be around-town type of stuff; she will not be toting cars full of kids; and there could be SHORT spurts of driving on the interstate because we live right off of two major interstates and sometimes using them for a few miles is the best way to get around. Obviously, dependability is an issue, and I know, often the one we can predict the least! Not looking for a car that has more time in the shop than on the road, or particularly expensive repair needs.

She wants a Jeep Wrangler, but they seem cashy (used) for what they are, and I question their safety... never been in one!

I appreciate any info or stories of your similar experiences!

Thanks so much,

Cindy

We also live in Northern Illinois and my sons drive a Honda CRV. It is very dependable, great in snow and safe.

I've actually been considering one of those, just not sure I can get a good price since they hold their value, but it won't hurt to look. I also figure if I got something like that, it would be something else the rest of us could put to good use, too.
Thanks!

We actually have 2 CRVs, a 2003 and 2006. The boys share the 03 (it was mine and I miss driving it). We've had no problems with either one....worth the money! Good luck in your search!

I have a Subaru Forester and have loved it from the day I got it. It's about 3 years old now. It has AWD, very handy in slippery conditions.

I second the subaru forrester. I just bought my second one! The all wheel drive is great. All subaru's have all wheel drive so another model might work too.
