Question NEED 5th grade graduation theme

I'm in charge of 5th grade graduation at my kids' school this year which means that I will need to plan/purchase and decorate (along with a couple others) the stage and the cafeteria. I need to come up with a theme and I think I'm making it harder than it has to be. I've searched the web to find themes but I don't want the graduation theme to be something like "Mexican Fiesta" or "Luau" KWIM?

Does anyone have ANY ideas they are willing to share with me???

TIA!
Merrie

My son will be in the 5th grade in August. The kids voted for their theme...New York, New York / Broadway. This year's 5th graders are having a luau. A few years ago it was an underwater theme. Good luck!

Do they do a little graduation ceremony for them? If so, I see what you mean about not wanting anything too corny. I don't know how you would build a theme around it, but I'm thinking of something having to do with keys... like "one key to the future". If there was a graduation speaker, you could give each child a key chain and have the speaker mention something about how each step (5th grade, 8th grade, high school, college, etc.) is a key to the future and the more keys they collect, the more doors they'll be able to open. A little symbolism goes a long way with that age group.

Another (simpler) thought would just be some sort of shooting star motif. As in "we're all stars" or something similar...

I was going to make the same suggestion as Tricia. A friend's daughter's class used that a few years ago and I helped her Mom create and make the invitations that were sent out to the families (50 some in one afternoon!).

"Reach for the Stars" - patriotic colors, or blue & gold.

I have had 2 graduate from 5th grade (3rd will be next June), and our theme is usually about ASPIRING to something, and it has to tie in with the Simulated Congressional Hearings that the 5th graders have just participated in.
