My hands and wrists were a little sore yesterday. I couldn't sleep well because all of my joints were sore&tingly. I woke up with swollen hands and knees, and I'm pretty stiff. Made it o doctor- gotta wait a few days on th blood work. This is really, really icky!
It's going to be a terrible season for ticks this year. Lyme disease is the leading vector-borne illness, and it's becoming widespread. Your symptoms may be very similar. Hope you feel better soon!
Not sure if you've found a cause yet, but I had very similar symptoms a few years ago and found out I had contracted Fifths Disease. It's something lots of kids get, my daughter had gotten it and was sent home from school.
It isn't as common in adults and the symptoms are often different than they are for kids. My main problem was incredibly achy fingers and hands with swollen joints. I remember I coudn't sleep at night either for a while. I also couldn't wear my wedding ring for about 6 months, and I had to buy shoes a whole size larger because my feet swelled! Eventually all the swelling went away but it took a long time.
Christine-
Interesting! I work at a school, and heard just yesterday that 5ths was going around. My face was red yesterday, but no fever. Also have some redNess on my chest. Maybe that's it. My feet were a bit swollen yesterday, too.
Oh yeah, spring is definitely the time of year for Fifths Disease. They also call it slap-cheek syndrome because the cheeks get so red it looks as if they've been slapped. Hope you feel better soon!
I just got a message that all my labs were "essentially normal", but there was a note in my chart about possibly needing a sleep study. WHAT? I've left a message for the nurse. Don't know what sore/swollen joints have to do its needing a sleep study. I basically feel now like I have carpal tunnel syndrome, but that doesn't explain the funky swelling/tingling in my knees early last week!

I am so sorry you feel so poorly. I am an arthritic (since a young kid - but only has worsened in the last 5 years = more stress) that can NOT take any anti-inflammatories (no pain relievers of any kind). Some days are worse than others. Neither one of my parents had it, but my mother's mother did. I was also bitten by a Florida tick as a young teenager (ended up being dime size when my aunt finally paid attention to me at the time) - I've never been tested for Lyme's, but I have other painful "itis"s. Maybe it's autoimmune. They seem to get worse if you are under any stress, whether you realize the stress or not.
I am with you - I have no idea what a sleep study has to do with your symptoms.
According to the nurse practitioner, sleep apnea can sometimes lead to neuropathy. Really? Also, I'm quite overweight and often tired during the day, so maybe she's on to something.

Just curious... what was it in the labs, or what it maybe some info you gave them otherwise, that led them to suggest a sleep study? I am a lousy sleeper and have always wondered if I have some issue like sleep apnea.... I get a lot of "weird" symptoms, too, and they ALWAYS seem worse when I am not getting enough sleep. Never been sure which is feeding which.
Also, and this is something I just don't know the answer to, did they do a very thorough blood workup? The typical CBC doesn't include a lot. I wanted to have my gluten sensitivity checked and also to see if my H Pylori was gone (no gluten issues and no H Pylori, thank heavens!!) and that was "extra" bloodwork.... same for the thyroid. Lyme makes sense for you, or even Fifths, but was that included in your bloodwork? Just thinking out loud....
My cousin (we are related by our mothers...they are sisters) has had Lupus since she was 12, and we are 44 now. I think that our family carries some kind of weird auto-immune issues, and I wonder where I might fall into that, not saying I have Lupus, but I think there's just got to be something there.
I feel like I am constantly battling with my doctor when I just can't take it anymore.... pushing to try to get to the bottom of this or that.... doesn't help that I have an HMO... such a pain!
I hope you can get some answers, it's no fun to face the day like that.... been there, done that. Also, curious to see what a sleep study would say...
Why can't you take any pain meds? You can't be allergic to all of them. I couldn't live w/o my Ibuprofen. I have arthritis all over and that's what keeps me moving. I sure hope you can get some help.
There really wasn't any info that I can think of that would lead her to think "sleep study". I am often tired during the day, but that didn't come up. I really wasn't overly impressed with this doctor. The fact that I had gained weight (and went without a period for 3 months) made her think I have polycystic ovary syndrome. I was swollen when I went in! I've already lost what I had gained. I'm also not swollen anymore! She thought maybe I was "insulin resistant". But if my glucose and insul levels are fine, I'm not comfortable taking the meds which affect your glucose level.
