Default How much to tip at Christmas for cleaning service?

If you have a cleaning service, how much do you tip them at Christmas time? Someone told me it should be the price of one service visit, but wow, that seems pretty high! I'm in the DC metro area so I pay too much already to get my house cleaned ($130) (& for gas, for groceries, for mortgage etc. ). I was thinking more like $20 per person?

I have 2 girls that come together every 2 weeks, for 100, I am probably doing 75 each + their fee next week. ( did I mention I LOVE them??!!)

I don't know if it's important, but I have three girls come with the owner of the service. I've only used them for a couple of months so I don't really know them personally.

If you have only used them a couple of months $20 each is more than adequate. That's $80 and I guess for that amount of time I would still consider them on probation so to speak. I have always heard that a bonus for household staff should be about 5% of what they were paid that year. So if you have paid them say $1000 in fees (total) the tip should be $50(total). However, I clean my own house so take that for what it's worth.

Here's a slight hi-jack. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.

I don't have a cleaning service, but I do have a woman that I call from time to time. It has been a long time since I've used her (no $$) and she has gotten busy, so tomorrow, I have a friend of hers coming to clean (I have bronchitis and just don't feel like it).

Since it is so close to Christmas and she is doing me a favor, should I tip her? I will pay her the same as I pay my other person, which works out to about $15/hr, which is about what I was making when I was working full time as an office manager!

I have had the same cleaning lady for 13 years and i have always paid her a Christmas bonus of 1 days work. She comes once a week for 6 hours and I pay her $55, she does take a lunch break.

Don't tip the owner. Just like you would not tip the owner of the hair salon. Give her a card. Tip the other three $20.

Wow, that's a deal!!

I have always paid my cleaning people one week's visit ($80) as a holiday bonus. We've had them now for about 4 years. My rates have never (well, not yet anyway) gone up. They don't mind my children following around "helping", and if I don't get to pick up toys in a room, they do it for me, without saying a word.

I know that my cleaning ladies live in a not so great town are (legal) immagrints, and husbands work landscaping. We're not rich, but we are doing better than them, so I like to give them something they can really use. They are always soooo appreciative. We also offer them couches, etc. before we call goodwill.

I now know that I can trust them in my home. Which is really nice....
