Default Graduation Related Songs

My ds is graduating 8th grade in June. One of the moms is putting together a DVD with a photo montage and music for the kids. It will be shown at the Graduation dinner the night before Graduation. I think this is such a wonderful idea. We've already "donated" our pictures (from K- on a cd, but she's also looking for songs to include.

I know some of you might have already done something like this or can suggest some. So far, I've thought of :

“Shine” – Newsboys (thanks for mentioning this in another post Rachel-Row4d)
“Good Riddance (Time of your Life)” – Green Day
“I Believe I Can Fly” – Yolanda Adams
"Circle of Friends" - Point of Grace

This is a parochial school so please keep in mind no inappropriate lyrics. Thanks!

The only thing I can think is maybe songs that are popular right now. They might enjoy that. This was done when I was in school (high school) but the songs that were in back then aren't now so that won't help but we had songs like It's So Hard To Say Goodbye by Boys II Men and We Are The Champions by Queen. That was a Looooooong time ago. LOL Good luck! It sounds like a great idea!

We did Wind Beneath My Wings(I think that is the name) for one ours.

Remember to have boxes of tissues sitting around the room on the chairs.

my all time favorite.
Friends-Micheal W Smith

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
I can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends
And with the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you live in
Is the strength that now you show
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong, yeah yeah
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends
To live as friends
though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends
No, a lifetime's not too long to live as friends

There's always the Michael W Smith classic "Friends". A bit sappy but I've seen it done for a similar occasion (Grad DVD for my nephew).

Sorry - we posted around the same time

I should clarify - I love MWS, even met him once. My dear husband would call "Friends" sappy and somehow his word crept into my thoughts. Scary! Thanks for posting the words - it really is a great song for a graduation. Keep the Kleenex handy!

They played Good Riddance (Green Day) at my sons HS graduation last year and I could bawl everytime I hear that song now. But I do the same thing when I hear pomp and circumstance. lol

Sorry the only thing that comes to mind is : Schools Out For summer. Alice Cooper

This was my brothers graduation song from HS back in 1993. I still cry every time I hear it. And I'm crying now. It's all good though...it brings wonderful memories to mind.

How about:
"Kind & Generous" by Natalie Merchant

You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
For your selflessness, my admiration
And for everything you've done

You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it

You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
And I never could have come this far without you
So for everything you've done

You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it

I want to thank you
For so many gifts
You gave with love and tenderness
I want to thank you

I want to thank you
For your generosity
The love and the honesty
That you gave me

I want to thank you
Show my gratitude
My love and my respect for you
I want to thank you

I want to...

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

or

These Are The Days
by Natalie Merchant

these are days you'll remember

never before and never since, I promise
will the whole world be warm as this
and as you feel it, you'll know it's true
that you are blessed and lucky
it's true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you

these are days you'll remember

when May is rushing over you with desire
to be part of the miracles you see in every hour
you'll know it's true, that you are blessed and lucky
it's true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you

these are the days
that you might fill with laughter
until you break

these days you might feel a shaft of light
make its way across your face
and when you do
you'll know how it was meant to be
see the signs and know their meaning

you'll know how it was meant to be
hear the signs and
know they're speaking to you
to you

There is a song by the OC Supertones called "Dedicated" (I think that's the name, I don't have the CD in front of me...). It is on their "Chase the Sun" CD.

Child of Mine by Carole King. It's an old one but I really love the words.

Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

You don't need direction, you know which way to go
And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You're the one who taught me you don't have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There'll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you'll change their heads when they see you smile

The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest
I know you will be honest if you can't always be kind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine,
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

When I graduated from from Catholic grade school in 1980, our song was Thank You For Being A Friend by Andrew Gold. You know the one they use for the opening of the Golden Girls.
