I'm currently ATTEMPTING this: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/teddy-bear.shtml
I'd like to make it for my niece's birthday. I've never attempted anything like this before though. I'm most concerned about being able to figure out how to join all the pieces. Any words of advice?
I have the patterns for these bears in a crochet mag I got years ago. I always thought they were adorable, but I'm not sure about my joining skills either. I'm attempting this turtle right now. http://www.crochetville.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=40998 If he turns out I might do more toys.
Hello ladies! I learned to crochet when I was very young by watching my mother. I've made numerous afghans, placemats, scarves, etc etc etc. I also cross stitch and stamp. Nice to find this thread! Lots of really good information here!
Hi there & welcome to the thread. Jump right in to the chattering.
I started a blanket for a friend of my son's who is having a baby. However, it seemed to light for a February baby, I found a pound of yarn in white and went looking for a new pattern. I found this patter that is one sc, one dc and one tc, then you repeat. Do it in chains of 3 + 1. (I chained 109). It is really pretty. I have no idea where I got the pattern must have been from a web site because it was on a plain sheet of paper. Really pretty. So now I decided to do 3-4 inches of white, two rows of green, then more white, then two rows of yellow and repeat the pattern. Will let you know how it goes. It certainly was fun to find the pattern.
Yah, Shelley! You're almost done. I happened to come across a shrug for a small dog, of all things, and decided to make one for my mother's dog. It seems goofy, but she'll get a kick out of it.
Hi everybody! I was looking for a new crochet chat place & found you. I have been crocheting off & on for 26 years. I have 3 grown children & 8 beautiful grandbabies. Currently I am working on an afghan for the newest grandson. I am from Nebraska.

Great resources! I really appreciate the What Not site - can't help but laugh. Even DH got a big snort out of some of the posts!
Anyone seen any patterns for bunny jackets? Real live bunnies - I have 2. I probably could modify a dog or cat pattern, but I thought if I could find a bunny one already...ya know.
Ok - much to do and little energy to do it. If anyone's on Facebook or Twitter - I'm scrapacat (Kyra Scrapacat). Have a great day everyone!!
did you know if you join crochet guild of america, your dues include a subscription to Crochet! magazine? i didnt, but i did subscribe to the mag and the ad was in my first issue! oh well, next yr instead of just renewing the mag, i'll let it run out, then join the guild LOL....
ITS THE HOOK!
I was using a wooden crochet hook that had a sharper, round, more narrow hook in that homespun yarn, and I kept catching the fibers with it. I decided to try an aluminum hook in the same size (K) and it works much better because it's wider and a little flatter at the hook end. I feel so much better now. And the poncho is going much faster.
Of course, if I didn't work on other projects at the same time, that would speed things up too
Believe it or not, my 'dog shrug' from redheart.com was a hit with my mother. More interesting though was the cardiff cowl I made and how much that was enjoyed. Making another one now for another friend and then I'm thinking I may need one, too! Did you all get your Christmas gifts finished up in time? What are you making now, ladies?
I've just finished DD's poncho, and am working on a little pig blanket (like the bunny and chicken on page 1, post 6). A friend of my Dad's just had a new grandbaby, so I'll be making up a blanket for them, and both DD and DS want afgans. And I want to try the purse pattern someone posted here as well.
Maybe I'll try a dog shrug, too. My Aunt has a cocker spaniel that wears clothes.
Ya'll are killing me!! lol
Had carpal tunnel surgery a week ago tomorrow and am already going bonkers - not able to quilt, work on cards, knit, etc, etc... Ugh!!!
Ugh! I have the bear's body & head made, but ran into some trouble when working on the legs. Decided to take a break by working on the hat. Finished hat. Followed all directions for body, head & hat exactly. Used same weight wool etc. Hat is twice the size of the head. In fact, it falls over the head so much it completely covers the face & comes to the bear's neck. I am SO disappointed & discouraged. Not sure what to do next. Scared to work on the bear clothes in case they come out twice the size too.
I am hoping to visit a great-aunt tomorrow (lives just over an hour away), who is an expert crocheter & knitter, in hopes of help.

Hi there. Welcome to the thread. There's lots of chit-chatting & hooky goodness on here.

Glad you found a solution. Can't wait to see the poncho.

I'm glad all your presents were well received. I got all my stuff made on time. Now I just need to get pics up on my blog.

Well, she sort of did. Despite following the directions, the sizes definitely are different. It looks like the best way is going to be to make the clothes & the re-do the body & head, making them bigger.
