Yes, I had candy. and a Pepsi. Which is not good for me or my diet or health. And that just is a sign of the stress level from work situation for me. My new mantra: Its just a job. Its a means to an end, not the end. Its just a job. Its a means to an end, not the end... Its just a job...
But on another note, this weekend I did have time to craft a bit this weekend including making a pretty cowl scarf out of bamboo from a pattern I bought at Craftsy. Love it. Quick, easy, pretty, my kind of crochet! I'll try to post a pic soon. It was inspired by the scarf you made me before, Christina!
Susan can you tell me what to search for on Craftsy to find the cowl scarf pattern you are using? I would love something that works up quick for Christmas. Thank you.

Surry it's sideways, posting from phone. It's a rag doll clown, made it with bamboo yarn so super soft. I made one for my son 25 years ah and he still has it and have it to my grandson.
The little clown is soooo soft, I can say that... since I made it with the bamboo yarn. And it has pom pom feet/hands/on hat. I just embroidered the face on it as this one is going to a little one.
Good morning crafty friends! Are we getting caught up? Summer? I think it's part of who I am to do things last minute. I always know holidays or events are coming and I will plan what I want to do, but it seems I can't concentrate on that until its 'time'. I cannot make Christmas ornaments in July! I was feverishly putting together the last touches on some gifts yesterday for DS's piano teacher and our milkman, of course because yesterday was the last visit with both before Christmas. I guess I thrive on the pressure.... Today we are baking some bread and treats to mail to grandparents. And I still have crochet things to-do on my list, lol!
I thought I'd better let you all know I'm alive since Susan texted me to check. Thank you sweetie!
It's just been uber crazy. And most not having anything to do with the holidays. I've battled a head cold for the past 2 weeks. I think it's finally going away. I was able to work out yesterday.
While battling the head cold, I've been covering multiple events for the paper. My pride coverage was an interview with a private conductor, Maestro Steven Byess. Such a wonderful person. We had dinner on the night of the interview plus I had lunch with him and the entire Polish Sinfonia ensemble from Krakow Poland the next day. Steven went on to Tupelo where he is the music director there while I continued to spend time on and off the next week with the ensemble and the Polish conductor. It was an amazing week.
Aside from Steven and I becoming friends, I've made friends with one of the violinists. We've already swapped emails.
This 13-city tour of the ensemble is part of The Messiah Project and is Grant/ private donation funded. We are already praying for grants next year to bring them back. Bob and I are hosting one of the rehearsal dinners.
In the mean time, I've realized how much I love symphony/ and some Opera music and am planning a couple of meet-ups with Steven next year.
Aside from the local reporting stuff, I had my first feature due to Polymer Clay magazine (set for the Mar/ April 2013 issue). I was nervous about doing my first feature with photos, getting permissions for product usage, etc. But I think it came out okay and I leave it in my editor's capable hands. In the mean time, I have The Last Word column in the issue hitting news stands this month.
Bob is gone for Christmas. We celebrated last Sunday. So now the house is quiet, I'm done with immediate reporting duties and can breath the rest of the year - short though it may be.
Well, at least you have a good and exciting/fun excuse for being absent... mine is not so fun, just crazy stuff at work and stress.
Thanks for the links, will have to check them out from home!
Close, but no cigar. Grams present is almost done, Mothers is about a 3rd - 4th done. Of course the ornaments I'm making she said is her Christmas present, but she needs something open!!! I'm sorry for breaking my promise about getting photos on here, plus since I'm photographer, but time is not on my side. Plus I had a last minute job to do before it was too late to order Christmas cards for a client. But I WILL show you the goodies, I promise!
Oh, and I have another story to share later. It involves a new member of the family. The meowing kind.
Wondering if anyone would happen to have some extra yarn....I am looking for Hobby Lobby brand "I love this yarn" in Periwinkle #280. It is currently out of stock online and at my local H/L. Just going out on a limb in case someone would have some laying around. Thanks!
Sorry, I don't have that one that I know of. I haven't bought any from HL. Did you try posting on Ravelry? I did find some a couple years ago there for a project that I needed some discontinued yarn on, and also found some on eBay for another one.
I've been trying to finish up some odds and ends projects and get a jump on some for next year Christmas as I watch tv in the evenings. I did a couple of prayer shawls for Christmas, and one additional for a local prayer shawl group so will continue with those too.
Over the holidays, I tried those knitting looms... didn't like them. Found they took me too long.
I've already bookmarked a couple of scarf patterns I want to try. One of the items I want to put in each of the stockings for the Polish Sinfonia ensemble members next year is a new scarf.
I didn't get the ones cleared out for the mitten tree this year so that's another project I WILL finish this year.
I'm in! AND I'm in on the spending thing too. I realized I had overbought way too much stuff from Michaels and it was still in the bags in my craft room last week so I took it back. Started the year with a credit. Is that cheating? My goal is to not buy supplies other than the glue, tape, and similar supplies that are to use up the other items! I most definitely have enough supplies to last the year... and then several after... haha

Yeah! Cool on taking stuff back. I've thought about doing that with a couple things I bought for the Polymer Clay article I had to write last month. But I really think I'll use them once I clean the studio/ office and the sewing room.
I spent time today fingering Alpaca yarn at our local yarn shop. Yummy stuff. Expensive, but yummy. I want to make each of the ensemble a scarf but if I use the good stuff, the pattern has to be limited to one skein per scarf ... as I'm making 10 of them. I'm not crazy about the cost, but it does keep the money local... and the owner's aunt is the one who introduced me to the Polish Sinfonia group. So it's all kind of full-circle thing.
That's why I loved that shell cowl I was making this year... could make them with one skein in general, though with the smaller bamboo skeins, it took a couple of them.
Hi ladies! Got a question. I bought some vintage crochet books at a flea market a while back. Went though it, found pattern I liked and started on it. It said to use size 50 crochet thread. I've never heard of sz 50, so I started using my faithful favorite sz 10.
Can you not use any other size yarn you want on a pattern if it states to use certain size? I've done it and re-done so times the yarn is getting worn out. It's just is not coming out right--too wavy. I had even tried taking out a few stitches, still didn't work. Please help! THANK YOU!!
i have a friend who really into crocheting got her on to pinterest just so she could keep track of all the projects she wants to do and of course she found new ones to do. She really wants to do this penguin pillow but is unable to find the pattern. I did see one that is 4.95 but i really like to find her a free version of it if their one out their. here the penguin pillow off of pinterest Things that maybe I can DIY - or at least pretend I can! / CROCHET PENGUIN PILLOW by peanutbutterdynamite on Etsy any help would be appreciated

Generally, you can change the size/weight of your yarn or thread and it will just change the gage & size of your finished piece. But especially with finer work, if you change it too much, your work will curl or wave. With crochet cotton, the higher the number, the finer the thread. 50 is quite fine - size 10 is four sizes larger (since the sizes go 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc. 100) as far as I know. Though 10 & 20 are the most commonly found these days, the others are available. I know that DMC does make a size 50 thread in their cordonnet line and it is available from online stores. Try your pattern with a size 20 thread if you have it in your stash, but I would order a ball or two of the size 50 and go ahead & try it.

Thank you so much for explaining this for me!!!!!! I don't know much about vintage patterns or even gages. I think I have one or two of balls of sz 20 and sz 30. I'll around for the sz 50.
