Default crochet wistlets

I was given the cutest pair of crochet wristlets, guess they could be called gloves or mittens without finger covers. I would like to make some myself but I can not seem to find any directions. I did download one set of directions but they do not seem to be working out well. Either the directions are wrong or I do not know what I m doing. Does anyone have any directions for these?

Did you do a search for 'fingerless glove' patterns?

I have a question if anyone doesn't mind sharing their 'go-to' baby shower gifts? I have a boat-ton of friends that are currently pregnant. I'm looking for a cute/useful crochet or knit project that I can do for each of them (seriously, I have about 6-7 gifts to come up with in the next 1-2 months!). Keeping in mind that I'm also pregnant and due in a couple of weeks, so I'm really looking for "quick" projects! I recently received some BEAUTIFUL and WONDERFUL gifts from fellow SCS'ers, but scrapbooking does not come easy to me, while I thought a crochet/knit project is quick/portable enough to work on during breaks at work, or watching tv. I thought about doing a crochet-edged flannel receiving blanket, but have never done one, so don't know the first step in starting it! I'd like to find a project that I can pair with something bought. For example, I found a really cute idea to craft a binkie leash which I'd pair with new binkies. Thoughts, suggestions??
Here's a blog post about crocheting around a flannel receiving blanket. You can either purchase the flannel, hem it with a narrow hem, or use a purchased blanket.

These are super simple to do and turn out really nice. I've made lots of them for gifts.

Kelly or Bugga...it's the corners on receiving blankets that I'm just not 'getting'. How do you hem it without making it pucker? Unfortunately, while I have a sewing machine, I only do the basics! (of course to most folks, hemming is pretty basic, I guess, huh?)

Toni, here is a tutorial showing making a narrow hem on cloth napkins, which would be similar to a flannel blanket. It shows square corners, but the technique would work for a slightly rounded corner, too. I usually cut my square/rectangle piece of fabric. Then I use a saucer to trace on the fabric corners to make them just gently rounded.

The real secret to hemming I think, is pressing before you sew. If you just barely round the corners, and press carefully, you shouldn't have too many puckers. And, even if you do have a few, the crochet edging will cover it up, lol.

Good luck! All the moms I know love, love handmade receiving blankets. You can never have too many, and they are useful for lots of purposes, not just wrapping the baby in.

KELLY: This week I FINALLY sat down and made 21 fire starters from your instructions... using the dryer lint and old dryer sheets... stuffed into the tp rolls with the drizzled wax leftover in the candle jars...
And then this morning I tried one out to start our fire in the wood stove.

That baby burned awesome and was amazing! Much better than any we have bought!!

Thank you!!!!

Speaking of fire I would like to say how thankful to God I am this week. We had a scare here when DD woke at 11:30 the other night. When I went to ck on her I smelled plastic burning. Initially thought maybe it was a ceramic heater I had on earlier, so unplugged it and ck'd it. DH got up and ckd around too. I just prayed for safety and protection and I could not go back to sleep. I went back to DD's room and starting feeling walls and cking everything. Then it occured to me there was an outlet right behind her crib. I pulled the crib away from the wall and the outlet was burning... The plastic safety plug was melting inside the outlet. Needless to say, I could not sleep after that scare! Thank God for his protection! So here is my message: If you do not feel right about something or smell something odd - do not let it go!

Praise God you double checked, Christina!

I have had that happen too. I have a very sensitive nose, and DH no longer scoffs at it. In our previous house I woke up one night and told him I smell burning, like an electrical or plastic thing. I went on a hunt... determined to find it. He thought I was nuts. I tracked it down like a bloodhound too til I found it... a floor electrical heater in one of the bathrooms had turned on somehow (short in the wiring) and a plastic hamper was in front of it literally melting. Wouldn't have been long before the clothes in it were next. Another time I woke up and knew something didn't smell right and sure enough, the wood pellet stove that we used for heat there had jammed and a pellet that was still burning had gotten through to the ash pan where it was smoldering. Not such a risk but smelled awful and alerted us to the jam.

I'm with you, go with the instincts! I think its more likely God's angels nudging us!

I totally agree it's God's protection. Yes, why is it that these DH's scoff at our super senses?! Lol. He doesn't so much now tho.

LOL You're welcome. But don't thank me.... thank my Girl Scout training.

You can also do tightly rolled up newspaper. Just open up the paper to it's full size. then starting at your left or right hand edge, roll it up. Tie with string about every 3 inches. Cut (great if you have a cross-cut or miter saw) between the tied sections. Dip each section in candle wax and hang by the string to dry.

Good morning, ladies. I crocheted a shawl/scarf the last couple of nights while watching tv... just an easy one in a loose double crochet... in purple shades Homespun. It is so soft and warm. I wasn't sure while making it who it would be for, but after I finished it, I decided to keep it for me! Wore it today even. I have to get someone to take a pic to share with you. I didn't think it would be as long as it is, but with the way yarn stretches, it turned out about 8' long I think! I just love how soft Homespun yarn is... cuddly warm today!

Susan, I am seriously wishing I had an 8' long shawl today! I bet it is gorgeous. I need to make a new one to wrap up in, but I want it big like yours.

I don't want to look! Well, I do, but.... We just moved my craft table and all my STUFF into the dining room. We just keep changing things around in this old house and for now it's settled there. Wouldn't be too bad if I can keep it organized!

I have a guest bed in my craft room. Its a queen size. So it takes up a lot of space. Right now I just end up piling stuff on it, like swaps that have arrived, etc.

Well, I've come to realize that in the year we have now been in this house (can you believe its been that long already???), we only had my son come twice to stay one night. So you know what? I'm thinking the guest bed goes into the basement storage area until its needed.... and I get that big corner of the craft room to put another table where I can actually spread out the scrapbooking stuff and organize it there, and then have the other table in there to use for current projects or sewing.

Now to break the news to DH about having to mvoe that bed two flights...

Susan, I'm with you... ditch the bed for until it's needed! There's crafty creative stuff that NEEDS space to happen properly. That able bodied hubby can handle a couple flights or stairs, right?

I think I am going to just go buy a couple of those big plastic bags that you can get at Uhaul to protect mattresses, and just cover them up, seal tight, put them in the basement and pull out when needed! That'll teach all those family members who won't come visit us! Haha

Hope everyone gets lots of hooking done today.

No crochet done for me this week, been overwhelmed with other stuff, sinus stuff, and all that fun stuff. Started a new diet too to try to kick things into gear and going through Pepsi withdrawals now! Oh boy, the never ending battle.

Susan, how are you doing on the NO pepsi thing? I hope you're feeling better. I've been trying to be good too, with less suger, etc. Then I baked bread. Go figure. I've been hooking up a storm over here lately! I'm working on some bigger projects that take up time, so I was feeling the need to whip up some quick little things. I had a couple patterns for scarves that were a little different that I've been wanting to try so I did them over the weekend. It gives me that little push that I've accomplished something rather than working on an afghan that won't come to fruition for weeks! I know ADD right?

If you have ADD, I must have ADHD!! haha

I lasted 5 days but then had a super stressed day and broke down and had a glass, then had some the next day but so far am back off of it (all of one day, haha). I didn't make it through the full week of the diet due to that stress break but it did kick start things for me so I'm walking daily, and focusing on increasing that right now. I don't eat really badly honestly, just the Pepsi would be my bad treat if I had a headache especially (counters the migraines) and will once in a while have chocolate or something, but even that isn't daily by any means, just once a week or so. We eat a lot of fresh veggies/fruit, very low fat diets, generally low carb as well so we are good, but I just don't get in the exercise so have to increase that since I sit at a desk all day and then plop into my comfy chair in the evenings mostly.

I bought a cute crafting magazine at the grocery store yesterday and it had some cute Springtime ideas in it, including crocheting jar covers then filling with Easter treats and such. I think I'm going to try a few of those, esp for one of the swaps I'm in. I've got a shawl in the works too and have to finish that. I made 3 of the football team swirl scarves so far, and am going to keep stockpiling those as I think they will sell at the games once they start again in the late summer/fall so I will just add to that pile as I go too. I want to try crocheting some small goodies like sachets also. The portable projects.

Friday at last!!! Yay for the weekend!!!

I joined Blessings Unlimited last week and am waiting for that package to come so I can see all my goodies as a Consultant and kick that part of things off.
If it doesn't come today though, I guess I'm going to be watching a movie tonight and trying to finish up my shawl. How about you?

Started making a granny square afghan a while back....just one giant square. It's made with Simply Soft yarn in Rose Garden, Plum Wine and Pistachio. Was going to be just a small lag afghan, now it's the size of my full size bed. DSD saw it and wants me to make it larger for her bed, and make some throw pillows to go along with it.

Not sure I want to give it to her, because by the time I'm done with it, she'll want something else. But for now, it's keeping my hands busy and my lap warm!

AuntKimi, I LOVE those giant granny blankets. They are addictive!!! You're making me want to do another one now....

Susan, I'm with you... I've been doing good, then fall off completely. For some reason I bought DH soda this week which we rarely drink. And I can't leave it alone. It's a phase. I'm with you, I need to keep exercising.

I saw a new craft mag the other day in the library and it had soooo much eye candy on the cover my entire nervous system went out! I have so many ideas popping around in my head on my own - and then add all that I saw from the mag, whew! I'm trying to write notes on my ideas so I won't forget them, lol.

I'm hanging.... its a loose noose... but I'm hanging...

I did craft a little last night but only because I had to cut pieces and get a project ready for Sunday school this weekend... I am signed up to teach one class a month for 6 months to help out the teacher so I used the Cricut New Testament cartridge (LOVE IT!) to cut out WWJD fishes... and as large 'charms' so the kids will glue the layers together and then put a ribbon through the charm hole to either wear it or hang it somewhere. Easy but will help the point I think. I used glitter cardstock for one layer so they'll like that. These are 4 yr olds - 2nd graders.

I crocheted a little over the weekend... figured out how to do little jar lid covers for both a big jar for the whimsy jar swap, as well as made little ones for baby food jars for fun. Now to 'accessorize' it a bit. I am hoping to try to find a crochet pattern I can do for a rose that will work for it.

Fun stuff! I'm slowly working on all my projects and trying to stop being so inspired by new ideas until I catch up with myself!
