I started on a 3rd black scarf last night. Made it about 1/2 way through while watching Avatar. We've been trying to sit and watch it for weeks. Only 5 more black scarves to go.

Did I miss what the black scarves are for?

I am soooo glad I didn't go buy a bunch of yarn at the sale at Michael's this weekend. I almost did, that big addiction.
While doin all this packing of stuff to put into storage, I found I have 3 whole big Rubbermaid containers of yarn, and another bag of yarn in the quilting closet. And they are the BIG containers. I didn't even remember having all that, but I know I had bought a lot a couple years ago for prayer shawls... I made 20+ of those in that year or so, and haven't been doing it so much this year so must have just put away the boxes at some point and forgot I had them! I thought those containers were old professional books from my office!

So now to just find a good pattern I like. I found some great Homespun yarns, which I love because they are sooooo soft. And I really do need to make some more prayer shawls, Lord knows there are always those in need of them (literally)! Good cool weather things to do if I can ever find time again if we sell this house and buy the other. I really do hate the in-between phase of this... just want to sell, be moved and get rolling!

I remember that in-between stage Susan. At the time we were 'living' in the IL house while we worked on this one about once a month or so through the spring-early fall. We did that for 3 years before we finally were able to move. At the same time we were carrying 2 mortgage payments, 2 insurance payments and minimal utilities. Sooooo glad that is over.

I'll cheer with you when the time comes.

The scarves match the hat/glove sets we bought on clearance last year. I'll donate complete hat/scarf/glove sets to our local 'Mitten Tree' our bank sponsors every year. All of the winter wrappings go to the area school children.

Awesome, Kelly.
I have all this yarn now so have to get rolling using it. Those are great ways to use the yarn... I like the Project Linus idea too so may make some for that too.
Was just out at Lion Brand looking at a few patterns -- found some cute amigurumi animals I may try, to create a little Noah set... And then maybe make him a big ark afghan with pocket windows to tuck them in, or a big ark pillow he can put them in.
By the time I get it done, he will be old enough to play with them.

I also found a cute baby sweater for a boy and a basic afghan to match well so I may do those to start.

DH laughed because yesterday we went to Target to buy rolls of tape for the packing boxes and I came out with a package of tape, a big bag of chips to snack on (with dip too), and a wind-up baby giraffe.

I am trying to get in the "mood" again, for crocheting. I think I need to find something different to do, instead of afghans, lapghans etc. I am doing a nice baby 'cocoon', and I think maybe some really cute booties, to make as gifts.
I need to go on Ravely for some ideas. It just takes so much time and right now, that is a luxury I don't have at the moment. If anyone has an idea on something different, I would sure appreciate it.

I also bought a huge box of Workbasket magazines from the 50's - 70's at a yard sale. I get a kick out of looking through them and have found some wonderful patterns in them too, for doilies and sweaters and all sorts of things.

Have any of you tried the crochet felted wool?
How about the jewelry with beads that is crocheted?
This book had some great ideas in it too, and there are over 90 pics that customers have submitted for it too that you can look at here -- Amazon.com: Positively Crochet!: 50 Fashionable Projects and Inspirational Tips (9780896895171): Mary Jane Hall: Books

I'd like to find a long crocheted sweater/jacket that I could make too, a nice shapely one... I love the look and have one but want something fairly easy to make, and I don't knit... Women's outfit stories | Coldwater Creek

Our plan (well, one little part of our plan, lol...) was to take DS to a pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins. After researching a couple, we headed out to find that the one we chose was really geared up towards kids playing, like spend lots of money on fun little farm activities, corn mazes, rides, etc. Had to take a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch and by then DS was so hot (turned out to be a summer day here, 85 degrees) and hungry after all the playing we just left. So DH went to Lowe's and bought mums and pumpkins for us.

How about you all?

Taking a break from crocheting and have been knitting mittens. This is how short my attention span is. I have 2 single mitts knit, not a pair, but 2 different ones. Now to make the matches for them.

We bought Adrian's pumpkin from our local greenhouse/ flower shop owner last weekend while she was here. Now we find out the vine that has been overtaking my compost bin (HUGE leaves) turned out to have md. sized pumpkins on them - volunteer seeds from her jack-o-lantern carving last year! LOL Guess she and I'll have to do something with it next week while she's visiting me again. I'm thinking of turning one of them into a centerpiece. She'll like sticking flowers in the top.

That sounds great! We had pumpkins in our garden last year. DS asked me when we were going to grow our pumpkin... Poor guy, it's been a busy summer. I bet there are lots of pumpkins growing in our old garden now for whoever lives there, lol! I just saw a pumpkin that you fill with dirt and plant pansies, etc in. Beautiful!

Lol! I'm right there with ya! I have a blanket all done. Just need to weave in ends and trim, but am I doing that? Nope. Got books of patterns laying open all over the house because I'm busy moving on to the next thing. Maybe I'll go finish it up while I think of you making those mitten mates.

Oh my! I love all the things on the cover. Are some of the patterns easy? I'm getting back in to crocheting, so back at the beginner level.

Any kind in particular you are looking for? I think I literally have two boxes of them! 50's to the 70's. I was a yard sale at a church and they sold me the whole box for $2 I think two years ago adn I still haven't gone through them all!

The pumpkin patch idea sounds fun... I have been thinking about taking the twin girls to do one but they keep getting grounded. Its tough because one will get grounded, then the other, and it seems we can never go anywhere anymore!
I wanted to go see the movie about the Owls (legends of something or other) but they are still grounded now so DH said let's wait... if they don't get off grounding soon, I'm going without them to see it!!!
It was a beautiful weekend up here, Christina... hard to stay inside to get things done. I bet it was there too. We had 86 today, couldn't believe it. I prefer the cooler weather.. .loving these nights and leaving the doors open in our bedroom for the cool air and listening to crickets.
We bought some big purple mum plants for the front entry of the house, and the plants I thought were pumpkins in the garden turned out to be watermelons so we have 3 small melons instead so far. I'm anxious to start making pumpkin pies and muffins and breads... I do a lot of baking, soups and stews this time of year.

In my cleaning I did find a big box of yarn with some great light blue (I think its "Colonial" blue) Homespun yarn, which is so soft... so I'm going to make a baby blanket for my soon-to-be GS from it. Going to go put in a good movie now and watch it and crochet.

None in particular, Susan. Though I do find myself leaning towards decor of the 40's/50's. Life was just simpler and more family oriented then.

I spent the fall in VA when I lived there. I'll always associate VA and Autumn together. And I know when I go back to visit, that's the time of year I want to go. And I know I plan to go back for a visit. There is a house I have already selected as the focal point of my Civil War romance series.

I keep eyeballing the cones of sugar n creme yarn for a couple of kitchen rugs but REFUSE to let myself by it until I get a couple other projects caught up. I miss the 'denim' yarn Annie's Attic had out 5 or 6 years ago. I got to make 2 throw rugs with it then it was gone!

Default I just learned to crochet today!!

Woo-hoo!! One more thing to take off the old bucket list!!!

My mother, God love her, tried to teach me to crochet when I was young. Not sure if she wasn't a patient teacher - I certainly was not a patient student. Anyhoo, signed up for a class that teaches basics - I learned to do a single stitch and a double. My little practice piece looks sad (need to learn how to hold my yarn so I have consistent tension), but I am so proud of what I've accomplished thus far since the class started today at 2pm and ended at 4.

Way to go, Kimi!

My mom (step-mom) tried to teach me, too. I just couldn't get it. But after I moved away from home I found an afghan I wanted and she wasn't in my life. So I found a book that taught the stitches and just focused on the single and double I needed to make the afghan. I've loved to crochet ever since. Sometimes it's all about the motivation!

Keep on practicing, Kimi, you'll get the tension right, we all had sad little practice pieces when we started too.
