Oh, wow! Thanks for the link. I was so intrigued (and over-run with old shirts) that I made one of these last night. It's actually very simple, both the cutting of the shirts to make the yarn and the pattern itself. It probably took me about an hour to cut up six shirts into yarn, and maybe 2-3 hours to crochet the bag. Very fun project! Those worn out, too-big tie dye shirts look really cool in this.
Hi there. She is great. My arms are tired from holding that big girl. If I ever find my card reader I will upload pics for you. The move? We moved, but we are a MESS! The worst part is, (remember - like you, I like to do 50 things at a time and usually would have a house unpacked and rooms painted in a week, lol)...with a baby that does NOT happen. It makes me crazy to still be looking at boxes I cannot unpack and boxes in the wrong rooms that I cannot lift. But it's all good. God is teaching me patience. And how to sit still and do nothing. Which I don't do well. So tell me how you and your family are doing and everybody share your summer fun plans with me so I can live vicariously!

Don't feel bad... I've been here 3.5 years, and no matter how many times I've tried to rearrange, buy new shelving/storage, shift, etc... I cannot figure out how we can fit into this house and cannot seem to get organized!!! Its driving me nuts! I am still waiting to find out exactly how much my promotion will result in ($$) and am ready to start calling realtors and mortgage companies to see what we can find that will work out! The big thing would be trying to sell this property/house first of course. I think we are here in WV for at least a couple more years so would rather find a way to fit and not be so frustrated at this point, and think it wouldn't be worth adding on to our home here at this stage (we would then outmarket the whole neighborhood, never a good thing) and I think the remodeling of it would even be too extensive at this point to make it work out.
Maybe I should just come over and help you paint and organize to at least feel like I'm making progress somewhere!!! (Besides, just want to see the baby! )
That was my thought, Susan. Wish she were closer so we could converge on her new happy home. We could take turns holding that precious little girl and doing Christine's bidding. hehe
We got to see our grandkids last night for a bit... I had put together a dinner and cake thing at my MIL's to celebrate her birthday and the girls with the grandkids actually made it!
Wow, where did everyone go? Have you all put away the crochet for the summer?
I'm still here! My usual thing is to make 12" squares so that I have a stash to assemble into afghans once the weather cools off. My favorite thing is to make a bunch of soft white squares and then join with linen or another soft neutral. Colors like that will work in anyone's house. I need to get a couple made up for auction donations at my kids' school this fall. And I'm going to make one for my aunt and uncle to thank them for going out of their way to help me out this summer.

That is an excellent idea! I need to remember that.

Here's an example. This was an auction donation.

I shared the Tshirt yarn and bag link with my sister and she is trying to make a dog food mat using that idea. I thought it was perfect since it would then be so absorbent and washable too!

Looks like clouds are moving in again. ::; sigh ::: all it seems to do is make it more muggy - if that's even possible. I did go out and pick blackberries again this morning. Still a ton on the vines to ripen. Also noticed it looked like tomatoes will be going into jars this weekend. And so canning season begins
I am now learning to crochet while baby sleeps on my chest. You know there are times (most of the time) when babies do not want to be laid down but will sleep on you for 20 hours... So I am learning to keep hooky necessities very close by and hook around her. Like Chris said in an earlier post, I too am making blocks that I can hook together later. Otherwise, this girl would be smothered in a big blankie.
We've had our share of clouds and storms, too. Poor DS's plans to swim have been foiled for 2 weekends. High hopes for him to go tomorrow. Supposed to bee near 100 degrees and cloudy, but so far no storms. Blackberries and tomatoes, yum. Do you enjoy canning?

I got a chuckle out of reading this, as the image that comes to mind is you crocheting along and finding out you had hooked in to her little pjs along the way...

I picked up my baby blanket again on Sunday. This pattern is challenging though. I have to read each row each time. Maybe I am just dense. lol Sounds like the rest of you are being very productive. I like to make squares, but I hate putting them together. I am not very good at the sewing together thing. Have fun everyone.
I was cleaning out my closet and found I had more scarves than I could possibly ever wear so I passed on a couple to the girls... you know the ones... I made far too many eyelash yarn scarves when that first came out, just about every color, and so the girls have been wearing them all week, in this nutty heat no less.
So they went over to see their aunt wearing them... and when I went to pick them up... she informed me how much she liked them and how she and her daughter would LOVE (hint, hint, hint) to have a red or black or white one each for Christmas this year...
So I've been off to Joanns to buy yarn and have it by the chair now for movie times...
I hear ya... I can't wait for Fall!!! We had such a wonderfully cool day yesterday in comparison, it was such a relief.. but now they are saying its going back up to the 90s and we still haven't had rain. Drought here now.
I am making simple caps to be distributed to the homeless at Christmas. It is a good project right now. They are very small to work on and take 1/2 skein of wwy.
It is going to be 100 today with a heat index of 110. LOL, I may just sit at my puter today.

Same down here in the east/central part of MO. And I'm canning spaghetti sauce today. The air is on and so are all the ceiling fans. Seems like these little red balls ripen earlier and earlier every year hehe
I've been working on scarves, too. But only in the evening - too hot to crochet in the afternoon, even with a/c. I love making scarves, because I can buy single skeins of fun yarn without worrying about what I'm going to make with them. My favorite at the moment is James C. Brett Marble Chunky. The colors are just fabulous. It's 100% acrylic, which works better for me, both because I find wool to be too itchy to have around my neck, and because it rarely gets cold enough here to need wool scarves.

I'm out of prayer shawls so need to make more, like to keep them in 'stock' as you know there is always a need that will arise. But its just been so hot and muggy, I haven't done any for months. Today was so muggy that when I got out of the shower this morning, you couldn't tell! It was just as muggy out of the shower! I don't know why I bother to put on makeup... seems to just melt/sweat off.
I cannot imagine those who don't have AC and how they are handling it. My allergies have also been nuts this year, constantly sneezing and eyes itching. Praying for rain and relief from the heat.
Howdy! I just found this thread, and it made me smile! I've been crocheting for about 14 years. My ex-FIL taught me how to crochet. I only make blankets and scarves, because a straight line is all I can figure out! I have a closet full of blankets that need a home! I just keep making them, but I make more than I can give away! I cannot read a pattern to save my life, but I have figured out how to do single, half double, double, and triple crochet, and I know how to do the shell pattern.
Hi and welcome! Your post made me laugh... Sometimes it's best to put down that pattern and make it up as you go along anyway! Sounds like you've found your niche. Let us know what your working on. Happy day!

Hi! I've been crocheting for nearly 40 years. I'm left handed, but taught myself from a "How to" book which only had instructions for right hand. So I crochet right handed, but it works well b/c I have more control of the yarn with my left hand.
Mostly I make baby afghans, but I have made a number of full sized ones. My most recent effort was one for our niece who planned on going to the University of Minnesota. Because the winters are so cold there, I offered to make one in their school colors. I had it finished before she told me she'd changed her mind and is now going to the University of Iowa (black & gold instead of maroon & gold)
So now I have an afghan in maroon & gold that is 49" x 70" without the fringe. Any suggestions on how I can sell it?
