Wow - if the stores catch on they'll start charging us for the bags, lol!

In DC they are already charging 5 cents per bag I think, as in some other cities. Get 'em while you can.

Those bags would be good for taking to the pool or beach! TFS the instructions.

Good morning, ladies!

I'm so excited to have finished my daughter's baby blanket. We don't know what she's having yet, but she is decorating the nursery with Dr. Seuss, and wanted a bright blanket for the crib. Her due date is Oct. 8th.

Thank you so much!

My next project is to make a blanket for a girl. If Julie doesn't have one, my daughter-in-law is hoping for one. I just have to keep my hands busy.

Oops! Thanks! I guess I should have done a better job of introducing myself. I've actually been subscribed to this thread for quite some time, but hadn't been crocheting a lot...so I didn't feel like I should speak, without something to contribute. When I finished the blanket, I was so excited, that I just jumped right in!

I have been crocheting on and off since I was 17. That - and cardmaking/scrapbooking are my passions. I am woefully behind on scrapbooking lately, though.

I am a MOD for the WishRAK group here, so that's where I spend most of my Splitcoast time. I also joined the Christmas card challenge this year, so maybe I'll actually have some Christmas cards to mail out in 2010!

Thank you for the warm welcome, and all the kind comments on my blanket.

No, I had planned to but bought a nice one on sale for her instead. I was waiting for her to tell me what she needed and if there was a baby shower, but I didn't get invited to it. (She's DH's daughter from a first marriage, and her mom has issues about me apparently since she had wanted DH back but he didn't want that... )
So we just went to see them on Sunday and I took a couple bags of baby gifts I'd picked up anyhow and diapers to them. THere are two daughters that were older and on their own before DH and I married, they are 27 and 30. There appear to be some issues they have with me, though not outright or spoken. One of them makes snide remarks about me being "Suzy Homemaker who makes everything" and the other one is younger, used to like my handmade gifts and items, but since the older has commented like that, she seems to stay away from things like that.
But it obviously hasn't stopped me from crafting! Just not for them as much!

It's their loss, my friend! I'm sorry to hear, but understand. Families are tough that way. You just gotta love'em from a distance sometimes. Hope you still get to enjoy that little girl, tho.

We get to see the grandkids about every couple of months if we push for it. Its actually rather sad I think considering they live 15 minutes away! I get upset because I don't get to see my older kids who live in CO as much anymore, only once a year really, because they are so far away, but you'd think the ones who live 15 min away would be the ones you see more often. We are lucky to catch them on holidays or birthdays even!

I think part of the reason I enjoy SCS so much is that common bond of crafting and creativity with others -- without the judgment that seems to come from those who don't craft/create all too often. I've seen that a few times over the years, and its no fun.

I love your creativity, Susan.
I was in a JoAnns once buying some Halloween fabric. A gal at the cutting counter ahead of me asked what I was doing with the pretty print. I told her they were for curtains for my kitchen.

"Oh, you're one of those..."
And I thought to myself.. you betchya!

I am crocheting a border for a receiving blanket. My son keeps having these friends who are having babies and I just think a regular blanket for a summer baby will never get used, so I am doing this edging thing and then going to edge some socks to give to them. The first row is the killer punching the holes and crocheting around it.

That's a great idea! I should try doing that for my daughter. Hers is an October baby, but it's still warm in Texas in October.

Thanks. I don't mind being one of "those" but have seen that streak in others several times over the years where the green jealousy has shown, usually behind my back, with others negatively commenting on it. Its hurtful when done that way, especially after you've made something for someone and then find out they made fun of you and it rather than appreciated it.
But I keep crafting, and just continue to find others to share it with.

I'm a multi-tasker, keep busy and enjoy doing lots of things. For some reason that seems to bother others who aren't that way... but I don't understand why honestly. We each have our own hobbies, interests, etc., just chose to spend our time differently (whether that is crafting, watching tv, shopping, sports, etc.)!

I love SCS because the people on here understand that it seems and enjoy spending their time in a similar way!

I love SCS because the people on here understand that it seems and enjoy spending their time in a similar way!
Yes! SCS is my creative 'writing group'. Like my writer friends understand why I write, my SCS buds get why I have so many projects going at once and why I couldn't stop myself from creating any more than I could stop eating or breathing.

I hope to enter. I have some pics of a couple of the soldiers wearing the shawls I did for one project, but was hoping to maybe get some pics of some of the local ones I've done too, for folks we know here, or for my MIL/SIL/NIL -- that would be a fun one of the three generations wearing theirs. I'm glad I have a few months before the entries are required!

Like some of you are mentioning here, I love being able to read about all your creative projects and see pics - and share some of what I'm doing because I am the only person in my family/circle of friends that is so inclined to 'make' everything. Susan, you are right, some people just don't understand it. Keep creating, ladies!

I just kept thinking about this post - deep down I always felt like family should be close and always there for each other, but I know that's not the case. In my own family it's been a disappointment. Someone told me years ago that you create your 'family' of friends and people you meet along the way. At the time, I was too young to understand that, but now I get it. It is so good to have you ladies here on SCS.

We are lucky to catch them on holidays or birthdays even!

I think part of the reason I enjoy SCS so much is that common bond of crafting and creativity with others -- without the judgment that seems to come from those who don't craft/create all too often. I've seen that a few times over the years, and its no fun.

Absolutely! I agree with you on that too -- that's why girlfriends are so important I think.
