Seems like that's the way... If you are really advanced in one (knit/crochet) it seems harder to cross over to the other. I have crocheted extensively and done very little knitting. So I have now taken on a rather large (for me) knitting project that uses lots of different stitches, cables and dare I say 'a chart...' Golly that makes me nervous. Trying to get better at knitting and get out of my comfort zone. Enjoy your class and let us know how it goes. I know you can do it. I think if you are an advanced knitter you can fix the international space station.

On a side note, although I taught myself how to crochet, I don't feel very comfortable that I'm doing it correctly, so I'm taking a class at JoAnn's tonight! YEA!! I probably could have skipped the 101 and went straight to the 201 class, but I wanted to make sure I don't miss any of the basics. I can't believe the trouble I've had picking this up! I taught myself to knit just a couple of years ago and am advanced enough to cable, etc. But the crochet is kicking my hiney!!

Thank you for this! I have been trying to keep from leaning on my elbows since I read this the other night. It seems to be helping more than the advil did. I haven't felt any tingling yet today. I'll keep you all posted.

I've been slow on the crochet lately. Not much getting done. I have made a bunch of little flowers for use on cards, just waiting to be able to get back into the stamping room (work being done on the house) so I can actually use them on a card!

Yeah! I often have to take breaks from crochet for that reason. In fact, after making those 2 baby items, I've been doing more stamping to rest the arm. But the yarn is speaking to me. Have a great day!

I now have 3 different projects going again. I'm working on knitting a baby blanket which is a real challenge for me:

http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80...html?noImages=

so when I couldn't sleep and got up at 2:30 this morning I started crocheting one.

Hi Ladies
I'm Kelly. Shelley told me I could hang with you guys Thanks, Shelley. I hope you're doing better both physically and emotionally.

I love anything having to do with color. Quilting, stamping, crochet, clay... you name it, it's in my craft space somewhere

Right now I'm working on clearing out my yarn stash. Someone else mentioned they crochet for a local organization in need. I do the same. I make hat/scarf sets and then buy gloves to go with them. Our bank has a 'Mitten Tree' every Nov. to collect warm winter wearables for the local grade school. You find everything from handmade to store bought items. Even socks!

My husband is a river boat captain and gone 3 weeks and home 3 weeks. Most of my crocheting is done when he is home. In the evenings we watch tv and I crochet.

I've checked out links connected to some of you. Your work is amazing. I love the little jumpers you crocheted, Christina. They are adorable!

Kelly do you have a simple, easy crochet pattern for a cap? My friend is going thru chemo and I want to make her a cap she can wear at night to keep her head warm, when you don't have any hair, it gets kinda of cold at night.

I am going to attempt this pattern for a sweater to put over my daughter's Easter dress. Easter comes early and with the amount of snow outside right now, I doubt it will be all gone by then!

Hi all!! I'm a crocheter too! Right now I'm working on an afghan for DH. It's called a Lumberjack Flannel Afghan and I got the pattern at Crochetville. I'm doing it in blue heather and oatmeal. I'm on the 4th of 5 strips so hope to finish it up with the next few weeks.

After that there are a few purse patterns I want to try. I'll be travelling by train in a few weeks so a purse would be a great take along project.

So happy to have found this thread! Like a lot of you, I learned to crochet from a great aunt when I was much younger and kind of forgot about it for a long time (how long? When I started again, my husband of 20 years said "I didn't know you could do that" Yikes!) Then, seeing all the cute crocheted flowers that have sprouted on cards recently, I was prompted to go get some new supplies and now I am hooked (pun intended)
There are so many cute (free!) patterns out there and having read through all 13 pages of this thread, I've found more sites and blogs and more projects!
Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to chatting and getting to know all of you better
Oh, and I joined Raverly.com - I'm CrochetKay - what a great site!

Hi Mary

I'm sure I do in my stash of patterns downstairs but it looks like someone has posted you an easier accessible link.

I do have all of my patterns organized. I have one of those 2-door white cabinets FULL. I have magazines sorted by needle art in binders on their own shelf. Cross Stitch, Crochet, Holiday Cross Stitch, Misc. Craft and Flower/potporri/dried materials. All of my quilt books are in the quilting shelving unit with shoe boxes of 1/8yd and 1/4yd fabrics sorted by color families.

Yep, too organized for my own good sometimes but I like to find things in a hurry.

I'm in the process now of cataloging my stamps, punches, etc for an article I'm writing on the importance of insurance information

So I have taken to making sweaters for all of these spring babies coming. I am trying to make them a little larger, like 6months so they can wear them in the fall. As I have said, I knit some. So I am trying to knit one. Really pretty pattern, but either my brain has been fried or I am having trouble doing the pattern andnow Ithinkthere is an error in the pattern. I kept losing a stitch every four rows and now I think I know why. It is really hard to count stitiches when you get up to 111!!!!!!! Okay, I am going to be alright now. Thanks for letting me vent.

Just finished the 4th strip. It's amazing what a person can get done when their internet service goes down. I also made 2 cards for the VSN Olympics.

LOL We all need those moments to vent. Just breath and count backwards from 100... or would that 111

So, I made a beanie for my DH yesterday and it turned out way too big. I know you can adjust gauge by using a different size hook, but is there a website somewhere that explains that more? As in, do I go down a size to make it smaller etc?

I am obsessed with crocheting right now and it seems as though my yarn obsession may rival my paper obsession..... not so easy to hide though

Hi, Lion Brand site offers this explanation:
http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/...html?language=

Although I rarely have the patience to do a swatch. I'm always so excited to get started on the project itself.

I'm sure there are really good crochet help sites out there, but I don't know any to list Hopefully someone will pop up here and give you some better direction. Lol on your new yarn obsession! I love it. I have the same problem, but I have a great husband.

Perfect, thanks so much! Yip, I'm a little impatient myself, which is why I didn't do a swatch either and why I ended up with a giant beanie. I have plans for it though, so it wasn't wasted time.

My daughter is currently living in Nasville (I'm in MO) getting settled in a new job while we keep the toddler granddaughter. Our daughter came in last night to take the toddler for a week. House is going to be child-free for the first time in a year. So many projects to complete - including the Jan. Hat/scarf and getting the Feb. one done would be awesome.
Somewhere in between getting garden stuff prepped outside, S2S challenges caught up (I post them LOL) and reclaiming my office/stamping space.

Hi, everyone!!!
I attended a Crochet 101 class at JoAnn's a couple of weeks ago and am sooo glad I did! I think I've finally got it! lol!

I do have a question I'm hoping someone can answer...I was looking at crochet books and saw one of crochet edgings....when you're crocheting something like that, do you crochet an individual edge and then sew it on your fabric, or do you actually crochet it directly to the project??

Also, I've been wanting to do some of the dish towels with crochet tops...does anyone have directions or suggestions on those? I'm sure they're pretty basic/easy, but I'm still learning! lol

Ya'll have a great day!!!

Yay! Glad you enjoyed your class! Sounds like things are going good for you. I love the crochet edgings. You can do both: Just crochet an edge to attach to something else (cute on the legs of capri pants), or on a project. The fun thing is if you have the book or know how to do some edges, you can alter anything pattern you're doing to add your own edge. Mix it up and have fun. I haven't done any towel toppers yet. Let me know what you think of it.

Ok, not to completely bore you all, but I was uploading a couple pics for my gallery and thought I'd put this one up here for you. I spent last weekend fighting a cold and this is what I did during all the down time.

That is a great bag! After "the beanie that was too big" I made a crochet basket to hold yarn so I can keep what I am working on separate from the ever growing stash.

And I found a local(ish) yarn store that isn't a chain and stopped by to check out and discovered they have a group that meets on Wednesdays and Friday's so I think I'll go check that out too.

My son put in an order for a beanie so I get the chance to see if I have improved yet

I crochet!!! My mom taught me during winter break my freshman year of college. I only made a few blankets and scarves after I learned and then stopped for a while. After college I took a knitting class with a friend and made two scarves. Recently I tried to pick knitting back up and got frustrated (tried to knit in the round) so went back to crocheting. I've made two hats for the little one that will be here in May and now I'm working on a stacking toy. It's taking a long time and my hand was getting sore so I had to take a break. I forgot how much I liked to crochet and now that I've started back up I hope to continue with it (might be tough with a newborn).

Cute bag, Christina.

Incidently, you'll quickly learn I don't 'sit' for very long. And if I do, my fingers better be doing something. LOL

Today is suppose to be nice so it's 'clean the garden shed' day. If I empty it, hubby will get my shelves built then I can put everything back. By then I"ll be ready to sit with the crochet hook and watch TV. He has lodge meeting tonight so the house will be beyond quiet! Not sure I'll know how to react. hehe

So cute! Where did you find the pattern? Is the little one due in May yours? I am due in June.

Lol... I am the same way. Always doing something, even watching tv the hands must be busy.
