Default Coyote in yard!

Our house backs up to about 1/4 mile of a wooded area, but we are very much in the suburbs 5 minutes to Wal Mart!
About a month ago we heard about a coyote killing a dog in our neighborhood and I saw one way back in the woods Monday, today it was back and pretty close to the house.
So I ran out, in my pjs and screamed and threw the only thing I could find, a roll of packing tape. It ran off.
But it scares me as we have a little dog, about 15 pounds.
Does anyone know how to keep coyotes out of the yard? I do watch her when she goes out side, but don't really want to watch her every second.
We have thought about getting a bigger dog, my husband would like one but we are hoping to move in a few years and moving to another state with a dog is hard.

I live in the country and deal with coyotes off and on. Be careful because it will get your small dog. Coyotes got my cat a few years back. Tell your neighbors. Everyone needs to watch if they are leaving any pet food out to attract him.

you might contact the Oklahoma Wildlife Services ....here is a link...USA.gov: Oklahoma Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Field Offices

They might be able to help you by trapping the coyote. Then relocate it...depending on the number of they have.

Good luck with the problem. We have lost a cat to a coyote last summer.

My little yorkie is called "The Snack Pack" whenever I take him outside by my oldest son because of the coyotes that lurk here. I have to be so careful.....
