Default Cards to Soldiers

I am posting to this forum, because it has to do with "current events"...kinda...and I didn't know for sure which forum to post to. I haven't posted many times over the year+ that I have been a Splitcoast member, but recently I have had good reasons why I can't....

I am a soldier and left my family back in Minnesota a little over 2 months ago to help fight the war on terrorism in Afghanistan. I don't get much time in front of a computer to surf, but when I do, I like to surf Splitcoast because it "takes me away." Tonight, I was surfing Splitcoast, as I do to calm myself, and noticed in the advertisements on the side that that talked about sending cards to soldiers in Iraq.....that got me thinking....

First of all, let me start by saying how much it drives me crazy to buy greeting cards when I can make them myself and get more enjoyment out of them. But, being deployed, I have no choice but to purchase cards....however, where I am, they have NO greeting cards available for purchase.... The PX (store) where I am located has had greeting cards on order for over 2 months and hasn't seen them yet. And, once things like that do come in, they are sold out right away and it takes months to get more...

Here is my question....would any of you be willing to donate homemade cards to the soldiers of my Battalion so they can send greetings home to their families? Being a fellow Splitcoaster, I would love to be able to tell my soldiers where they came from...

I don't know how often I will be able to get back online to check this message, so I will leave off with an address where you can send cards if you wish. I know my soldiers would be grateful for anything they get. To be able to put a smile on the face of the families that worry so much about them would be wonderful!

CPT Jackie Stenger, US Army

Please send cards to:

Jackie Stenger
TF 147th PSB, HQ
APO AE 09354

Take care and God Bless!

Ok ladies I'm going to challenge you!! I'm sending 20 cards today! Who's next?
Post here when you send. This is just a little thing we can do to support our soldiers!! I know there's other threads where people are doing the same but come on we can all spare a few cards right!

Count me in. I don't have a lot and I am super slow, but there will be something.
By the way, mine might be alot alike. I was shopping at a paper store not long ago, where I picked up a box of light neutral cs because it was great quality and an even better price. When I commented I like to send cards to the troops, the checker told me to take a second box for that use. So now I have something like 500 sheets of kind of a pale blush blossom! Need to get stamping....

This may have been asked but I don't want to skim this thread again. And excuse my ignorance for not knowing in the first place. POSTAGE?? Do we need to send that or is that provided to you guys? Does anybody know if I don't hear from the OP?

As far as postage, I think that depends. I do know that for soldiers in combat zones, they don't need postage. I don't know about this situation, tho.

OP--you will be getting a bunch from a fellow Minnesotan--thanks so much for all you do!! It's nice to be able to show support from back home in this small way. I've sent over 1000 cards to Iraq--it's neat to think of how many smiles this lil ol hobby can bring!

ok--I love to mass produce! So I just went through and counted up and I will be sending you 112! And now that I have an address of someone to send them to (and it makes it neat that you are also from MN) I will send more later.

Default Thank you!

Thank you to ALL of you who are sending cards...and to those of you who posted their words of encouragement, too!

Regarding the postage, we are in a combat zone and our first class mail is "Free." So, thanks for thinking about it, but no postage is necessary.

You should have seen the faces light up when I told some of my soldiers that "cards are on their way so you can send them home to your families." It was WONDERFUL!!!! Words could never say how much your thoughtfulness is appreciated!!!!!!!

Again, thank you!!! I can't thank you enough!!!

{{hugs}} to you ALL!!!

Bump, and to let you know DH is at the p.o. right now getting a priority env. on its way. I am such a slow stamper so do not have nearly as many as has been listed above - but it is the thought that counts, right?

Jackie, we appreciate updates. I am so in the dark regarding the military. How many are in the battalion? Are there others in the area or just your group? I know you don't have a lot of time and probably can't tell a lot, but it is interesting to know where the cards are ending up. I hope this mail will brighten the day for many of you. And as others have said, let us know if there are other things you could use. Am sure we would even take special orders for specific occasions, given a bit of notice for mail to arrive.

Blessings to all of you.

Hi Ladies!!! Just wanted to send an "Update." There are 118 soldiers in my Battalion. It is made up of three companies. I am on an Air Force Base that has more Army personnel on it than the Air Force, Navy and Marines. There are also civilians here from the United States who are here as contractors.

I am on Bagram Air Base, which is 30 miles north of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. You might have heard of it in the news a couple of weeks back. Vice President Chaney was here when the base was "hit."

When I am not working, I am either at the gym, at the "Dining Facility" or sleeping. (Or thinking of family and friends at home.) I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters (ages 10 and 3) and can hardly wait until the next 11 months are over so I can get back home to them.

I will keep you updated as much as I can, but please feel free to E-mail me! gouphie151@yahoo.com.

Take care, God Bless and THANK YOU!!! For EVERYTHING!!!

Jackie

Had this "brilliant" idea.. . Mother's Day Cards! I have about 20 birthday cards made, and some anytime cards, and then I thought of Mother's Day. So my job this morning was to make some of those too. And yes, I will make a bunch of Father's Day cards, but I don't want to wait to get this out as I don't know how long it will take to get there. Anyone have an estimate???

I'm on my way to PO along with a stop at the hardware store for MOTH BALLS - no not for the cards but for that little black and white "kitty" who decided to wander our back yard last night for 30 minutes.,. thanks heavens DH saw the skunk before he let the dog out!

I cannot even begin to imagine being away for such a long time. My husband is currently deployed but it will hopefully only be a 4 month stint. It's hard on me to have him gone, but I think it's harder on him to miss out on things here with our kids. Thank you for your huge sacrifice.

Sent some out this morning. This is a great idea. My brother is in the Army & is scheduled for deployment in September. I am SO not looking forward to it. Although, my SIL has plans to move back home with their two little ones while he is gone. I have plans to make sure he is getting mail from home every day, but I will definately be doing this for him & his guys too.

Thanks so much for your service to our country. God Bless & Stay Safe!!

I hope all those who sent boxes made sure to fill out custom forms. I have three adopted solders who we send cards and packages to and the cards don't need them, but the boxes do. (even though they have a US APO address)

Oops, the lady at the PO didn't tell me I needed one. I put mine in a Priority Mailer and I knew those could only be used in the US so I thought being an APO box I was safe...??? I guess they will send it back to me??

I sent mine out today, and they did need a customs form. It's a small, easily completed form, nothing complicated.

I also want to share my thanks for everything you do!!! My brother is in the Navy, but not deployed right now. I know how hard it is to have family members away, so special thanks to your family as well!

How cool! I was just browsing for ideas on what kinds of cards to make FOR the soldiers - had never even considered they may need some to send home. I want to let my daughters Daisy Scout Troop make a stack to send - any idea approx how long it will take for a box to reach the base? I want them to be fairly topical as well as some for basic occasions.
thanks!

I would hope that the people at the post office would let people know they needed the customs sheets..... I keep them here so I have them filled out before I go to the po..... cuts the time. Thanks Hockeymomma for doing what you do..... God Bless
It's the least we can do for our guys and girls serving! Our family was a military family so I know how hard the life can be.
