I get 45 points. WHich when doubled gets you the grade range listed.
Give my ibuprofen a chance to kick in and I'll go back over the book to double check. Who knows, maybe I'm still missing something 'cause when I counted the points, I came up with fifty.

Okay my actual score is 30 out of 49 (assuming #6 is worth 5 points), so I still get a D-.

*stomping off in a huff to go stamp some cards*

Default Atheist etc.

Wow! I got an A. Being married to a lay preacher (later turned Atheist) really helps with the score. I taught Sunday School too. Now we be good little Atheists.

Post #3591. You'll have to highlight the post to see the answers since they are in white. From what I remember, you did pretty good.

Oh. Thanks. If it had been less Christian and more other things, I wouldn't have had a clue. Now we have to get the book, I guess so you don't have to discuss it by yourself lol.

It is and it isn't. The author is more hell-bent on reforming our educational system (not a bad idea), than on relaying critical information about the world's religions. Some of his assertions in regard to religion in US history are debatable, in my opinion. Still, it's worth reading for a different perspective.

Can't wait to dive into Wealth and Democracy. Should be an eye-opener!

Chris, have you ever read any of Daniel Quinn's work?

Rainsong
Going to the library tomorrow, I'll have to look for him!
Totally interested by this thread. Never suspected we had one like this here on SCS, I am agnostic. My parents were Christian and met at a Christian college, but by the time my older sister came along my mother had different view and the two of us knew very little about religion. I kinda wish I knew what her views were, I wonder if she would consider herself agnostic too (she died in 1996)?
My big brother ended up a Buddhist, my sister is Pagan, and me, well I've been confused a long time, and I even married a non practicing Catholic. He tries to teach our children about the bible...for some reason it really bothers me, I feel like he's lying to them! They know I won't read it to them, and I keep most of my opinions to myself, but I can't help but feel that is wrong too.
Happy to find this thread, I'll be back!!!

Do any of you watch 30 Days? It's on FX and it's by Morgan Spurlock who did Super Size Me. THe most recent episode was a conservative Christian lady living for 30 days with a gay couple with adopted kids. What was most interesting was her attempt to answer questions by proclaiming she prayed to get the answers and the prayer was answered. But she never went further. I admit I was interrupted a ton and haven't gotten it all watched so I'll watch from the beginning again one night. But it's an interesting show with many different views challenged. The previous episodes were Morgan being a coal miner for thirty days and then a hunter and meateater living with a vegan PETA employed family.

Anyway I recommend the show if you can catch it.

What? You have atheists in Texas?

I didn't see one episode from last season. I think I was in a strange post child fog. I'll have to see if any are on DVD or On Demand.

YAY!!! A heathen who loves Morgan!!! Can I call you a heathen? I know we just met and all...

Anyway I recommend the show if you can catch it.
I want to see this show! But I never watch TV anymore; I hang out on these darn SCS forums instead. I wonder what happened to the Christian lady - did she change any of her opinions?

Long ago I did watch an episode of Wife Swap (or some similar type of show) where a very conservative Christian mom changed families for a week (or some time period). She went to live with a family where the kids wore black and had piercings and tattoos (or something like that), and she was judgmental all the way until the family had a barbecue and the dad said a prayer before anyone started eating - then she said (to the camera later) how bad she felt that she had automatically assumed that they were not Christians by their appearance.

Ha ha, I would have also loved to watch the one you mentioned about the hunter living with the vegan PETA family.

Nah, never watched it. I've only seen a few of WS 'cause they drive me bonkers with the people they choose, the most extreme people from both ends of the spectrum.

Here's the link to the official website. It's entertaining and thought provoking for sure.

I didn't see one episode from last season. I think I was in a strange post child fog. I'll have to see if any are on DVD or On Demand.

YAY!!! A heathen who loves Morgan!!! Can I call you a heathen? I know we just met and all...
hahaha, well yes there are all kinds of religions and non-religions here, but I'm in the middle of "the bible belt." THIS is where the Christian family lives. The Atheist woman was from somewhere else, she is a married mom of 2 I think. It was a really good episode. They pretty much agreed to disagree at the end.
