Default Summer School

Do you teach Summer School or would you rather have the full break? For the first time in several years, I am not doing SS in favor of a longer summer.

I teach SS at the high school. It is night school, though, for credit recovery. Three weeks, 2.5 hours a night, Monday through Thursday. I don't instruct, just grade and keep records. It is subject specified, English 1-4.

The money is too good to pass up.

Yes, the money is the draw and it's almost ridiculous to pass it up for 16 3-hour days, but I need a break. It seems the staff frustration increases every year at this time with the RIFs and no raises, added insurance costs, etc. Our enrollment has been on a steady decline for the last seven or eight years, so admin has to make big changes almost every summer. That's hard for even the most positive staff, so I think getting away from the little school house will be good. I love it that your district has night school for the high schoolers. It makes sense that the kids can keep their summer jobs or hang out during the day and get down to business in the evening.

I'm a new teacher, and I would have taken a summer job if I hadn't already planned a vacation that conflicted.
