Default Organizing digi's?

I have gathered quite a few digital stamps but they are so hard for me to find I rarely use them. So I sit here with my Copic markers and Prisma colored pencils and a jumble of digital stamps! I thought maybe we could start a thread on organizing them because surely I am not the only one that needs a little help and there is a wealth of information here.

Is there already a thread going somewhere that I didn't see? If so please point me in the right direction.

Thank you!

I'm with you. As it is now I have mine sorted in folders for each company, but as my collection grows it's getting harder to find the right one. I started labeling the files (you can add keywords on Mac) but to go back and do this for each one is daunting.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's answers.

I save mine in folders for each company and have gone through renaming them like "girl hat balloon" in addition to the company name for the image, so I can find them on a Search with Windows 7.

Something else I have tried to do is Have a Word folder with a document for each company and drag each of the images onto the document so I can see straightaway what images I have for each company on one page, IYSWIM. Though I don't remember to do this every time I get a new image so I keep having to play 'catch up'!

Separating them is where I need to start.. I have one folder titled digital stamps. lol Are all of your stamps viewable when you open the main folder or do they just have an icon? Some of mine have icons of the program that will open them and I think some are in a folder. I want to be able to open the main folder and see all of the stamps. I am not at home right now so I can't get into the file for a few days but I have to get this done so any tips would be appreciated.

I also separate mine by subject - animals, holidays, words, etc. When I download them initially, I dont put them in folders. Before I put them in a designated folder, I put them in a Word doc by subject. I print the pages out and put them in an index book. then I move them into the right folder. It is very easy to find one. Sometimes I add them to two folders, i.e., a cat w/flowers, so I add it to the animal folder and the floral folder. I also have some broken down, i.e., animals has dog, cat.

I've started adding tags to mine when I download them. I've been going back and adding tags to my older files as I get time. I also put them into a file for each company that I've downloaded/purchased from. It makes it easier to search for them with the tags. I've considered printing off thumbnail index sheets for them (like you would for pictures) but I have sooooo many that I would probably kill the Amazon forest trying to print them all.

I can't agree more. I need to organize mine more. I have file folders such as the stamp company, but for all of those freebies I get and the color pages I download, I have things such as;

animals
animals/cats
animals/dogs
all of the holidays, but Christmas is Christmas/Winter, Easter/Spring, Autumn/Fall/Thanksgiving, etc....

But I have one for Words and Greetings and I really need to drill that down into Birthday, the holidays, etc....

Anyone else have a better idea?

I keep mine in a folder called "Digital Stamps" (original, yes?) and then in subfolder by the name of the artist. I haven't felt the need to further divide each artist in to categories, because I can see the thumbnail of each when I open the folder. So far it's working for me. I've slowly been adding a print version of each to a folder but if I were starting again, I would print an extra image for that reason from the beginning.
