Default DGSC116 Spring into Change- April 1

Since this is a Tuesday challenge and I somehow missed the 1st Tuesday, I will post this today and date it April 1-

I nearly always start scrapping with a set of photos. I look at an event I want to scrap and pull the photos I want to use over to PSE, right now PSE12, and then I shop around my files for either a photo cluster template or a full template, or both, especially if a full template happens to come with several elements. Designer Digitals puts together some templates that come with a bunch of elements.

Next, I put my photos in the templates and then I either link the layers and move it to a blank page or a full template.

Next, I begin to play. Lately I have been trying to use more masks and brushes.

So--after all of this chatter, I challenge you, this month, to find a template or a photo cluster template and change it up- play with it, add to it, take away what you don't want or need, and then add layers, as much as you are comfortable with- of masks and brushes.

(If you are paper scrapping-please play along too, just start with a template and the have fun with stamping and adding layers to your page!)

In my sample page, I started with a photo cluster, placed the photos, linked the layers, hooked along the edge of it and doubled its size- then I started creating the layers underneath.
Ninety-Six Star Fort by fresshe - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
  • I started with the burlap, pulled a green paper on top, changed the opacity to 31% and made a green burlap.
  • Next I pulled in a mask and masked another layer of green to soften the background just a bit.
  • Next I used some splatter and filled the layer with green for one set, placed it on the page, then undid that and filled it with brown that matched the leaves in one of my photos and put that on my page.
  • I thought it needed a bit of framing so I added the green page on the page again and dragged to the edge, I repeated this until I had the whole page framed.
  • Then I added the journaling and the elements and called it a day!

Make sure to upload and use the key words DGSC116 sbc14apr
Have fun and thanks for playing along!!!

Thanks for the challenge Valerie!
I created a double-page spread, and here are my pages:
Sealife Aquarium 1- DGSC116 by Diane Malcor - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Sealife Aquarium 2 - DGSC116 by Diane Malcor - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I used the sketch template below as my starting off point. I added a lot of layers of splatter to make it look like splashes of water to my pages. Also, I used a few layers to try to achieve the 'punched out' look to the stamps within the colored blocks. A lot of work, but I'm so happy with the results.

Do you mind if I add a gallery link for this challenge.

DGSC116 - Homemade Cards, Rubber Stamp Art, & Paper Crafts - Splitcoaststampers.com

I find it easier to click a link, than to search for it each time, as I like to keep up with everyone's pages!

Looks like a fun challenge.
I play with My Digital Studio, so I'm not quite sure what "masks" and "brushes" are.

Thanks for the link.
Thanks for playing
I haven't played with the program you have, but brushes are just like stamps only digital and masks are really just layers that you clip another layer to- so you can really clip anything to merge it with the layer beneath. Many "official" masks allow a softening of the edges of whatever you are clipping-or you can even clip pictures to alphabets or any other solid image.
Hope that makes sense!
