Hi digiscrappers and soon-to-become digiscrappers! I'm Wendy and will be bringing you a task for the Digiscrap Progressive Challenge each Tuesday. I am one of 4 Co-Host/Moderators for the Digital Scrapbooking Challenge forum:
Wendy - wendella247 - Co-Host & Moderator
Terri - 3fries - Co-Host & Moderator
Hannah - clarhan - Co-Host & Moderator
Molly - cmkebennett - Co-Host & Moderator
The objectof the challenge is to complete one page over the course of four weeks by following instructions given in tasks posted each week.
On the first Tuesday of each month, Task 1 will be posted, consisting of instructions for starting a scrapbook page that will then be built upon through additional instructions each week for a total of 4 weeks (Tasks 1-4.)
The idea is to work along with the challenge as the tasks are being announced weekly, each task to be completed & posted prior to starting on the next task. (Once you post a weeks results, youre finished. Dont change your work for that weeks task.)
At the end of the fourth week, you should have a completed page!
Its fine to start late or catch up if you miss a week(s). Just be sure to complete & post each task before you look at or start the next one. Its more fun that way!
For additional tips and info. about the Digiscrap Progressive Challenges please go here.
Instructions will be given for a 12x12 page, but youre welcome use whatever size page you choose.
CHALLENGE ONE - TASK 1.
[Youll use 1-2 photos for this challenge. Theyll be added in one of the later tasks.]
-Open a new 12x12 document, name it and save it so you dont lose anything. Be sure to save your work OFTEN! (If youre new to Photoshop Elements (PSE) & dont know how to create a new blank 12x12 scrapbook page, go here for tutorial.)
Create a Background: -Start with any 2 papers (patterned or plain, your choice.) Place the two papers side-by-side (horizontal or vertical, as you prefer). Have one paper take up more of the page than the other (ex., of pg. and of page).
-Add a strip of paper (patterned or plain, you choose) thats approx. 1-1 x 12 to cover the line that separates the two background papers. (You may use a pre-sized strip or create your own by cropping a full sheet of paper to the size you need, then adding it to your page.)
-Add some type of border(s) to the strip. Thats all well add today.
To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, here's My Task 1 Page.
-Save your page as a .jpg & upload to the Digiscrap Challenge Gallery-Progressive Scrap for June 2012 (Be sure to add keywords: DGSCPR001Task1 and SBC12JUN).Please also post this weeks work in this thread. Be sure to keep the original, unflattened page. Youll need to add Task 2 to it for the next step.
Please note: When uploading your page to your gallery, on the Gallery Image Upload Page, choose the category Scrapbooking/Digital Scrapping rather than Scrapbooking/Progressive Pages, since that Progressive Pages refers to a method of scrapping different from our progressive challenge.
Have fun! Dont forget to leave some praise for your fellow challenge takers!
If you have the keyword in there, it should automatically be in the gallery. A few minutes ago I clicked on the keyword you used and it did bring me to that gallery but your page wasn't in there. I just checked again and it's there now. SCS seems to be a bit sluggish today.
Love your page! The colors are great and I love the bird paper. It's so fun seeing everyone's ideas. Thanks for playing!
By the way, what is cydi? Is it a digi thread on SCS?
PSE 8 since it is on sale I am not waiting for my birthday
Ah, yes! I wouldn't wait either! I already have it, but haven't loaded it on my computer yet. (I'm using version 9.) I have too much on my HD and I'm afraid something will CRASH! :p
I have two internal hard drives and a 3 TB external for back-up! Plus another smaller HD that holds all my original digi kit ZIP files! Birds of a feather....
Wow...you've got lots of pages in the gallery already as well as another one that I just happened to see when I posted my pages! Way to go! I've finally finished up the DPS I was working on for the VSBn challenge so now I can start on the new digi challenges. It's late so I'll nod off and dream of what I can do for tomorrow! It is good to know it will be for 1 or 2 pictures ahead of time though and thanks for posting a sample. That's always good to answer any questions that might come up with the instructions.
my idea...not ready yet.....having trouble with the middle...red pennant....like the idea of the wave as a border...not sure I like something on top of it???? I NEVER use these colours...so I am really stretching it...couldn't sleep so I did not wait to upgrade
-FMcrafter--I think your page looks great! Love that wave! And I see you are an "enabler" too! Yes, I did see that new collab from Scrapbookgraphics. I receive their e-mail notices too! One of my fave sites. (Love that kit--on my wish list!)
-Terri (3fries)-- a date night with DH always trumps scrapping, no matter how much I love scrapping! lol Hope you do get some time to do Task 1, though!
-Terry (eeddmm)--Yes, things here are off to a good start! Glad you'll be able to play soon. I probably won't post my own Task pages every week since I prefer if people use their own imagination, but I figured it would be helpful since this is the first time we've had a progressive challenge!
I'll probably always give advance notice of number of pics, since I find it hard to select subject matter and papers if I have 4 photos I want to use together and then I'm told to only use 2! For me that could be a game changer.
I will always tell you how many photos we'll be using in the first task. If they're to be theme pics (vacation, holiday, season, etc., I'll let you know that in the first task too. So, you'll be able to pre-plan what photos you want to scrap.
My first priority as a scrapper is to scrap the pics I want scrapped. I don't like to scrounge around trying to find pics that will fit into a challenge. I'd rather fit the challenge around my pics! Does that make sense? I think that's why I like the progressive challenges. There's an element of surprise, but you still have some control over your subject matter.
