Default If you are having a hard time with PSE/PS, an alternative

I consider myself to be pretty computer savvy, I actually used to do some programming and I find that PSE is very troublesome. I did however find a great replacement that is super user friendly and doesn't cost that much either. It's called My Memories Suite and it is drag and drop. There are some limitations, but with 3 little ones, I found this to be sooooo much easier! I am obsessed with digital scrapping now! You can check it out here - MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking Software and Scrapbook Kits | MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking They also have assistance almost 24/7 through their FB fansite.

Here's another digi goodie -- Jessica Sprague (one of the best!) is offering a free webinar for new digital scrappers:

"Registration is open for my FREE webinar coming up on Friday, November 18th! If you or a friend or family member have been thinking of dipping your toes into the digital scrapbooking world, join me for a live webinar where I'll walk you through creating a digital scrapbooking layout using Photoshop Elements. I'll even provide a free quick page to get you started. When you are through, you will have a beautiful layout, with photos and journaling that will wow your family and friends! There are two times available, so hopefully one will fit your schedule. And feel free to pass this on to anyone you think would be interested. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today!"

Check here for more details on the 9 a.m. & 10 p.m. EST FREE class:

Default embellishments

New to digiscrapping and don't know if this is where I should post this. I am trying to add embellishments to my digital scrapbooking page. They are buttons with letters on them. I want them all the same size but can't figure out how to do it. I tried "eyeing" them and moving them with the move took, but it's not uniform. Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Susan

What program are you using? If Photoshop you have to hover over the corner and pull out from there in order to resize proportionality. Whatever the program, there should be a help tab, try to search resizing and see if that helps.
Sometimes these programs can be quite frustrating, hang in there!

Hey, Susan, you don't say which program you are using but I can maybe help.

If you are using PhotoShop CS or PhotoShop Elements, hold down the CTL key (in Windows or CMD key on a Mac) and click on each layer with the button/letter. Then, release the CTL key and hold down the SHFT key. Place your cursor at the corner of the box and it will change to a diagonal line. With both left mouse key and SHFT key depressed, move your cursor toward the centre to go smaller or away from the centre to increase the size.

Hope this helps and good luck, digi scrapping is a great deal of fun.

I'm using Photoshop Elements 11. I know how to use the arrow buttons to resize that way, but was hoping there was some kind of way to resize all buttons to exactly the same size. That's hard to do when you are adjusting the size on your own with the arrows. Does that make sense?

Perfect sense- I make one the size I like and then click on it and do a control alt and it makes a copy- then I just make as many copies as I want.
There may even be other ways, my skills and memory are a bit rusty, I took a year or so off from scrapping!

I have another question for all of you digi experts. I want to make a scrapbook for a friend. She doesn't do scrapbooking, so she would just have to tape on pictures where I put frames. Would that look weird if I did it digitally and then she added actual pictures on top? Or should I just do regular scrapbooking for something like this? What's your opinion?

TIA

You can find a lot of great templates that are super easy to use, most of the time I start with a template. Designer Digitals, in their freebie section usually has a free template every week-take a look. They are a totally safe place to download from and their style seems, to me, to be the closest to paper scrapping. Or at least that is what I thought when I cruised the internet and decided they were my favorite.

Smile Printing digi pages

I hope I'm not driving you all crazy with the questions. I'm so new to this. I downloaded some 6x6 quick pages from a site that said they can be printed as 8x8 or 12x12. Can I really print them 12x12 and still get clear, not blurry pages. Seems unrealistic to me. I was on one website that said you can zoom in to 30% and that's what your page would actually look like, but when I did that, it was quite blurry.
TIA for any help. I'm learning, but it's a slow process.

You won't get a good clear image if your enlarging your page to 8x8 and definitely not to 12x12. What site told you that? I've been digi scrapbooking for a long time and designing for almost 10 years and would never ever tell someone they can enlarge something bigger than what it is designed. Maybe they meant for only screen viewing, but definitely not for printing.

I agree with cat_woman. However, if you have 12 x 12 templates, they can be re-sized downward and still provide clear printouts.

It was a site that had Disney stuff --rleeroush.com. He sells on eBay and directly from his site. Below is how he advertises:

6~ Pre-made Digital Scrapbook Pages featuring Mickey Mouse and Friends. Pages are created at an 8x8 size to allow you to create quick pages you can print on your home computer. Pages can also be printed as is so you can add printed photos into the layouts and add to your scrapbook album. No special Software needed. Pages can be re-sized to fit other popular album sizes such as 6x6 or 12x12.

So this really will not work? Disappointed as I have several QPs.

I don't think I'd care to take a chance. The only way I'd use a 6x6 is to leave it in 6x6 format, but layer it in the center of an 8x8 or 12x12 paper (using the larger page as the background mat.) That way, the basic layout would not be enlarged or become pixelated, but it could still fit in the larger-sized album. GWIM?

I'm sorry to say that unless he is designing his stuff at a higher dpi than what the industry standard is (300 dpi), then resizing larger won't work. As was mentioned already, resizing to a smaller layout size will work though. I'm really surprised that he has "Disney" all over his website and has Disney images in his kits. Unless he is super independently wealthy, getting a commercial license for those images would make those digital kits very expensive to be able to recoupe the expense. I personally would be hesitant to use anything with Disney images from small digital designers because, quite frankly, they are probably using the images without a license.

I am not sure about the resizing. I can take a jpeg file that is at 300dpi and make a 16x24 canvas out of it no problem. are photos different than scrapbook stuff. but in looking at his stuff, it doesn't seem all that clear to begin with. this is the first time I have every seen Disney stuff, but then I am not a Disney fan so I do not look for it. my kids are way way past that. I guess if you already bought it I would enlarge it to an 8x8 print and it on my home computer to see what that looks like. (I only print in 8x8 so I can print at home) or take one file to the office max and have them print it at 12 x12. I live half mile from the office max, so its no big deal to run up there. then I guess you will know for sure. I have created a page in 11x17 using my digital supplies intended for 12x12 with no loss of quality when printed. not sure if this info helps or hurts or if I even know what the heck I am talking about!

Thanks Lori for the ideas. I may do that. I'm worried if he is even reputable now after I read what catwoman said. He had some freebies, and I was thinking about purchasing but may not now. But for future things, you are right. Doesn't cost much to make a "trial" copy. Thanks again.
