Maybe this has been asked a bunch already, but how are you orginizing your digital supplies? Mine are such a mess, I can't find anything! I have a Mac with Bridge, but don't really know how to use it.
Well, I don't have a Mac, so not sure this helps, but I have a folder called digi images and one called digi scrappin, then in those folders I have sub folders broken down by subject such as floral, animals, season, holidays, sentiments, etc etc, then in the sub folder catagories are sub-sub folders. So in floral for instance, I have subfolders broken down by flower. I rename every thing with the name of the item and the artists name before saving to my puter. I then can search for "purple rose" or 'green ribbon" on my puter and any and all purple roses or green ribbons come up. As for scrappin items, my folders are named ribbon, button, papers, etc etc Hope this helps some. The biggest key is to name the item
Thanks for your reply. So what do you do with kits? Do you leave those together or split them up? I can see advantages both ways. And do you somehow designate which website they came from?
I put the seperate elements into their folders, and the whole kit (usually as an exe file) I put onto discs. you can add the website name to the name as you save. I will say however, I can colorize in my PSP program, so a plain button, or a plain ribbon etc, I will only save once, then change color as I need it. A way I might name a save is....
ylwrose_artistname_website
I can see saving it as a kit and as separate items. But that seems like a lot of work ahead of me to sort it all out! I've got folders within folders, within folders, etc.
I've committed to not going any further though til I get organized!
Thanks!
After years and years of buying and collecting graphics and digi stuff, I had a huge mess as I would just save with whatever they named it. It took me almost a year to sort and rename all my graphics and digi stuff, and I've learned to take that extra second to rename before saving, but it was well worth it. Good luck!
I did it! I got it all reorganized! I named the folders consistently, eliminated duplicates and got the folders all cleaned up. Then I went to Bridge and put keywords on just about everything so now I can find things when I want them! I'm so happy! Thanks for your encouragement.
I use a PC...I use ACDSee to organize my scrapbooking elements. You create tags that make sense to you and then tag all of you elements.
The tagging of all of my stored elements took a long time, not gonna lie. But now it is so easy to find what I need, and I can drag it into PSE7 and we are good to go. Much easier to use than the PSE organizer. If you are just starting to collect digi elements, I would recommend plugging them in ACDsee right from the get go.
Ali Edwards is a hybrid scrapper who uses a mac, here is a blog post talking about organizing her digital elements on her mac. She has a lot of great information specific to mac's on her site.
Good luck! Remember, you need to find what works for YOU!
