I know it has to set at least 48 hours. I'm timing this set for the tutorial so I'll know for sure. You should also mix it in whatever container you're going to store them in... something with 'wells' like a chalk box. I'm using an old Inkadinkado Artistic Chalk box. It held 24 chalk colors and that's how many Pearl X colors I have LOL.

also, once they're set up you need to be able to pop them out and flip them over. The stronger/ glittery part of the Pearl X will settle to the bottom. So you flip it over and use from the bottom with your watercolor brush.
OH! I'm going to have to try this!

I mixed up one color of pearlx and gum arabic just to give it a try. I used a section of one of those 7-day pill boxes. I think a paint palette might be better for mixing. Now I just have to figure out where we put those face painting supplies so I can find one.

Just a note on the Pearl Ex. The chalk tray didn't work as I'd hoped. Those puppies aren't popping out of the plastic wells like they 'slid' out of the paint pallet well. It has taken about 48 hours for them to set up good.

Default Regarding Prize Envies

I have to apologize for not getting these out sooner. Having spotty internet most of the month of July has prevented me from taking care of more than the 'must do's before getting booted off-line. Sometimes not even that.

I've been back on for about a week now and have been trying to play catch-up. May and June prize envies are addressed and going postal tomorrow. Rita and I kind of 'met in the mail room'. I went in to pull addy's and there was an 'did I miss something' email from Rita LOL

Thanks to those of you who pointed her in the right direction. Please feel free to ALWAYS ask if you have a question. Technically, this isn't my thread. I'm just the prize lady/ cheer leader (when internet permits apparently). But I'll try to help where I can.

Merry Christmas!

I have a feeling they aren't going to pop out of the pill box I used. It's too square. That's why I only tried one color so I won't be fighting with the others. I still have to find the paint palette.

My local art supply store didn't have any gum arabic so I'll have to wait til I go into the City a week from Sat to pick up a new bottle. Hopefully HL and Mikes will have coupons so I can pick up 2. They really add nice sparkle to the Christmas cards

I almost forgot about the one I tried. It did pop out of the square pill box without any problems. I didn't do a project with it yet, but I had to see how the silver looked on black paper. That's a pretty slick idea. Now I have to figure out how many colors I have and get some more pill boxes. Thanks for sharing the idea with us.

My internet has been spotty at best the past month. I think the problem is resolved and I'm back. I know I have a couple of envelopes to mail but I couldn't get in to my email long enough to pull the addresses VikkiJo sent me.

So who's playing today?

I'm betting that most of our traffic will be kids coming in to play on the computers. We have a certain group of people we have to watch closely while they're on the internet....they are known for getting into porn sites....not appropriate in a public library. Libraries attract some very "interesting" people. Time to do another load of laundry. Have a great day everyone. Enjoy ELF day.
Porn in the library!? Oh boy!!! They should get a computer at home!!

That's what we think, too. Would you want to sit in a public place and look at porn? The computers aren't in private little cubicles. They're visible by anyone who walk by them.

gum arabic is a medium artists use to change the consistency of their paints for various applications. You'll find it in a square bottle about 2" tall over in the art supplies at HL or Mike's where the oil/ watercolor paints are found.

Mix the Pearl Ex powders with the gum arabic and let them harden. Then use your watercolor brush just like you would any other watercolor paint pallet

Hi Stacey. Welcome to the group. Our fearless leader works out of town so she won't be able to add you to the list until Sun or Monday.

In the mean time, how many cards would you like to do per month? Think what will get you closest to your goal by Dec. 1.

All the information should be in Post #1. If you need anything else, just ask.

I think I will start either this month or August by completing 4-5 cards each month. I signed up last year but has so much going on that I didn't get to do any cards for this challenge!

I hope that you have room for one more card maker - please sign me up! I'd like to do 10 cards per month - and since this month is already half gone, that means I have to play catch up!

Hey Gem!

Welcome to the group. I'll check in with VickiJo today and make sure everything's okay. But we'll get you officially added as quick as we can. In the mean time, just look over Post #1. All the links for the individual months are there and get busy!

If it helps, I'm behind a bit so we'll have to play catch-up together.

Go you! I'm a tad behind. And as soon as these two deadlines are out of the way, I'm taking an entire day to catch up.

I finished my August cards. Not really impressed with them, but they're done. I was trying to use up old retired SU cardstock so I'm sure it's the colors I used that don't impress me. Will have to wait until tomorrow to upload them.

Planned to get some gum arabic today when I stopped at Micheal's. OUCH! $13 for a little bitty bottle. Didn't get it at that price. Kelly do you know of any place that is cheaper?

HI Angie

Unfortunately, I don't. I just know to get it with a coupon LOL... Brand comparison might help, too. The brand I use is Windsor & Newton. It's a 2.5 oz. bottle.

Keep in mind, good coupons will be coming out for Labor Day and Black Friday.

I'll look for them, Debbie.

I have some ValuCS I still want to use up and get out of my file drawer. I use it on the cards I know people will pitch.

Windsor and Newton was the only brand they carried. Think I will wait for a labor day coupon. It is only a week away. I am coloring fairy images for a card swap and I think this will be perfect for coloring her wings.
