June Challenge

Debbie will be challenging us this month

grammatroll 11-25-2012 10:46 AM

I'll take this spot, Vikki Jo.

I thought it would take me awhile to come up with a challenge for you, but it only took a few minutes. I like making quilt cards but haven't made one in a very long time. So my challenge to you is to make qult cards. There are a lot of beautiful examples in the gallery here: quilt cards - Homemade Cards, Rubber Stamp Art, & Paper Crafts - Splitcoaststampers.com

Here is a tutorial: Splitcoaststampers - Tutorials

One suggestion I have for making these is to use a good, strong liquid glue so you can move the pieces around eaisier. The first time I made quilt cards, I used the red sticky tape. Sometimes I would think the pieces were on straight only to find they weren't. I use Zip Dry because, not only can I move the pieces around, it dries clear and if any glue oozes out, you can rub it off like you cna with rubber cement. Once it's dry, it stays in place. Can't wait to see your beautiful creations.

Finally, I got my sample card done for you. Hope you enjoy making these cards as much as I do.

LOL!!! Oh Debbie...I clicked on the link for the quilted cards gallery and that crazy one I sent to Pattycakes with the chicken soup came up....somehow, I'm not thinkin that's what you meant....LOL!!!!!...

grammatroll 11-26-2012 06:36 AM

Sheri, when I click on the link, it brings up the gallery of quilted cards. It's kind of wierd that only one card came up for you. Maybe try searching for quilt cards in the gallery. That's how I came up with this link.

Ksnurse 11-26-2012 07:36 AM

It was posted by Pat (blooms in a box) after she got it...it was made using a downsized quilt pattern so that's prolly why it came up.....heehee...

Isn't that an awesome card? I had to put it in my favorites before I even commented on it.

jan31 12-12-2012 12:04 PM

That's a lovely card Debbie, failed on this challenge last year so must try harder next year.

craftidomesticdiva 12-25-2012 07:37 AM

Oooo, this will be a nice challenge. I really enjoy trying new things. I've never made a quilt card before!

grammatroll 12-25-2012 08:06 AM

Peggie Sue, I'm looking forward to seeing your cards. Quilt cards are easy and fun to make. Once you get your quilt pieces together, run it through an embossing folder for an added touch.

craftidomesticdiva 12-25-2012 01:12 PM

Debbie - great idea!! I will do have to try that! =)

Stampin Wrose 12-30-2012 10:38 PM

Oh I love quilt cards! Thank you for this challenge! I look forward to it.

auntangie 12-31-2012 09:01 AM

Great idea to mount the squares on grid paper. I never would have though of it and then grumbled because my squares weren't straight.

grammatroll 12-31-2012 02:45 PM

I don't always get my squares even. That's why using a liquid glue as opposed to sticky tape would work better for me. Then I can move the squares around to get even with the grid paper.

stamp300 01-01-2013 10:17 PM

Great challenge, I may jump into this soon as I'm an avid quilter...need to make more Christmas quilt cards.

grammatroll 01-02-2013 07:43 AM

Connie, can't wait to see what designs you make. I still have the quilt card you sent me a couple years ago.

Here are my five cards for the June CCC. I am sorry I did not follow your 'theme' challenge.

1,2,3,4. Janome Cards
5. Red n White

Thanks for all you do for us to keep us on track! I really appreciate this challenge but must do it by summer - so that it is relaxing BEFORE the summer work comes.

Arizona Maine 03-10-2013 11:41 AM

Hi Debbie,
Quilting is something I'd never tried and judging from my card should not continue but I will anyway. Thanks for the challenge and here is my first. From a distance it looks okay.
Quilt Card for Christmas.

grammatroll 03-10-2013 03:48 PM

Angela, your card is beautiful. Don't give up. I would never have known that was your first attempt.

Arizona Maine 03-14-2013 06:18 PM

Here's my second quilt card for June. 13 more to go!

grammatroll 03-15-2013 07:55 PM

Angela, I'm so happy you made another one. It's beautiful.

Sarah38 03-24-2013 06:55 AM

This quilted card challenge defeated me. Nothing I tried worked out right or looked like anything I would want to give anyone. The cards I did for this month are simple cards and I'll keep working on the quilted ones because I know I can do it...I just have to figure out what the trick is.

I got 1 of my 2 cards done for this months challenge. I was so excited when I say this challenge, a little nervous too cause I am NO quilter lol. I did do a quilt card last year so I just stuck to what I knew. When I saw the sketch challenge this week, it was perfect. I combined the 2 challenges and whala.... my card

I'm not a quilter, either, but my sister is. These cards aren't as hard as you would think.

Arizona Maine 04-08-2013 11:17 AM

Hi Debbie,

I've completed 11 more, somewhat, quilt cards for June. We'll be traveling soon and I want to get the tough ones out of the way.

Gift Bearing Santa Quilt

Attached is the first of the 12 cards I need to make for June!

Fun challenge and new to me! Good thing I have a really nice tweezers to
help position the pieces!

auntangie 05-13-2013 06:10 AM

WOW Ann! I see what you mean about using the tweezers. That is a more complicated block than I plan to use for this month's cards. Great job!

annsforte3 05-13-2013 10:26 AM

Angie,
Tried doing the same layout with a larger pattern but did not like it. The smaller patter DP looked better on the card. A tweezers is a must for easy placement!

Can't wait to see some of the other cards for this month's challenge.

Finished June!!

Finished 16 cards for June!!

Changed the color of Santa's belt and the gift in his hand for more visibility of
Santa's glove!

Also, made six gift tags using the same Santa stamp.

I'm loving all the quilt designs I'm seeing. I haven't had a chance to make many cards the last few months. I'm going on vacation next weekend so have to spend the week cleaning my house, doing the laundry, and packing. Oh, yeah, I have to work, too.
