Going to take DS for a haircut shortly, get Starbucks and read while he's in there. Then a quick stop for a few groceries, and home.

DH is having a tax party for himself and the two kids at 4. Both kids have to file returns because they have some capital gains and he just wants them to have a basic understanding.

I'll go stamp and provide snacks as needed. LOL If I try to listen, my eyes will glaze over.

Speaking of tax parties, I've been on the H&R Block helpline almost an hour. Keep getting an error loading the estate tax software that I spent $80 for

Hey all. it's a beautiful day here today. We took the kids to the playground and they rode bikes and ran around. Then we hit Togo's and Baskin Robins for lunch and ice cream. Now we're home and they are playing in the back while DH and I clean house. Nice day all around.

So Wrose and MO here's what I'm thinking for food for Friday early dinner late lunch thing.

White Chili
Soda Bread
salad.

Please be honest if that's not up your alley. Basically white chili is ground turkey, navy beans, garbanzo beans and black eyed peas simmered in spicy chili flavored chicken broth til thick. I normally serve it over boiled millet. I can have it all cooked the day ahead and then reheat whenever we end up needing to eat.

Sounds like you had a good day.

I never did get the estate tax software loaded. The escalated and someone will call in 48 hours.

So I feel like the afternoon was unproductive.

As a last resort backup, I went to the IRS site and ordered paper forms. Hope we don't need to go that route.

Sorry you're having tax software issues, Marge.

DS is learning, DD declined.

I'm willing to try them. Never had millet but will go easy on that, looks about the same points as rice. Never had white chili but sounds decent! DH doesn't like beans so I'd never make it, when I make chili it's all meat. Er, used to make. I haven't bothered in years, he opens a can of it every now and then. I get the ones with no beans, of course. lol

I usually prefer w/o nuts but not too fussy really. Either really, I'd only take one of anything, mostly.

Should we plan to take a sammich to the zoo with us? I've got small coolers we could put them in. When I went with DD, we just grabbed food at the concession stand but I know that's pricey. We can even put some drinks in there, too.

IT's perfectly yummy with no millet but that's just usually what I make to go along with. I of course use FF low sodium chicken stock and, maybe a teaspoon of oil for the onions to saute if there isn't enough moisture left from the turkey. I'd say flavorwise it's closer to tortilla soup since there are no tomatoes and no beef flavor.

YAY I think I might have all but the meat for that.

I don't usually do sandwiches or do pb becuase the kids don't want to sit for a whole meal. I'll do grapes, carrots, cheese, crackers and they can grab a bit by the elephants, then some by the monkeys. And I carry water bottles in our pack. Since DH is coming I can be prepared with two back packs and we both can carry enough water and snacks for people.

Maybe this is a good time for new smaller binoculars

Well I'll definitely try the millet. I tried couscous (it was okay) and quinoa (not impressed). so I'm willing. Even when we have Chinese or Indian food, I don't take too much rice with it. But I do like SOME carb.

Oh okay, that's a good idea, backpacks. Never thought of binoculars. Do you usually ride the thing sky ride? Gotta take MO up on that. I'm guessing you don't if you go a lot. It's just so cool to think that if it breaks you could end up as Lion's Lunch. HAHAHAHAHA

I didn't like quinoa but I like couscous. Just think if I'm gonna have pasta I might as well have pasta and not that LOL. I do like israeli couscous (I'm sure I jacked up that spelling) but I'm pretty much the only one who will eat it so I don't make it too much.

Millet tasted more nutty and it cooks up sort of like a breakfast cereal consistency.

Hve you been since they turned part of the train ride into an animal enclosure? Now wallaroos and emus on the hill the train goes around

I need to go focus on getting my make up on and waking myself up. I'm so tired I can barely function and I have to be at work in about an hour.

As for zoo and food I always pack snack stuff like fruit and water and stuff like that and wear a back pack. More extensive stuff I can leave in the car/cooler and go get it or something. I also don't want to have you drive all the way off 680 to come see me only to back track so much KWIM? I'll mail it to you in the next day or so and then at least if we decide to meet at the zoo it won't be an issue
Whatever works for both of you will be fine with me! What I'm looking forward to most of all is spending time with you and meeting your families--at last!!! Mountains, zoos, scenery and additional states are just a bonus!

Yikes.

Didn't watch the race yesterday (I have to admit I'm biased in favor of events where the drivers also, on occasion, get to turn right). But I saw Danica Patrick got taken out by a teammate. That bites after getting the pole.

Hillary Clinton denounces homes!!! Sounds like an excellent internet rumor to me...

What an absolutely tragic situation. Jim Muir from the BBC gave a very heartfelt remembrance of one of the journalists killed:

Wrats--sorry to miss sitting in on it! I might learn something, LOL!

(probably not a lot that would apply--almost all of what I own in stocks is tucked away in IRA and Roth IRA, but I think all that stuff is fascinating).

Sounds great to me!!!--although I've never eaten millet, so not sure what it is. If it's the consistency of porridge, I might have my chili without millet, if that would be ok. If it's the consistency of, say, quinoa, you might want to make extra, LOL.

Oh and it's been ages since I've had a cupcake!!! May I vote for cupcakes?

Marge, may I ask you a professional question?

If I no longer have to worry about taxes for the business, is H&R block the best software to get to do my taxes myself?

I'll have mortgage interest, IRA stuff and some donations as deductions, nothing more complicated than that. I don't think the separation expenses are deductible.

As a last resort backup, I went to the IRS site and ordered paper forms. Hope we don't need to go that route.
Holy cow, Marge.

That bites.

Should we plan to take a sammich to the zoo with us? I've got small coolers we could put them in. When I went with DD, we just grabbed food at the concession stand but I know that's pricey. We can even put some drinks in there, too.
I'll have my trusty knapsack aka stylish travel handbag, LOL. Load it up and I'll schlep.

I wonder if she'd go if it weren't her Dad. Maybe weirdo banking friend with tattoo can drop in a pointer or two.

Is it ok to request no peanut butter?

I have to admit I am not a peanut butter person. I know... weird.

Millet tasted more nutty and it cooks up sort of like a breakfast cereal consistency.
Breakfast cereal as in oatmeal, or breakfast cereal as in corn flakes?

LOL... yes I have issues... I'll try it, though! I like things with nutty flavor so long as they're not peanut butter. Not quite sure how I can like peanuts but not peanut butter, and LOVE bread (or anything) with olive oil but not like olives.

Should I bring peanut butter to spread on myself in case it breaks?

LOL!

It sounds WONDERFUL!!!

Well, I'm not a tax expert, but...

1) For many years, I always used to use TaxAct online. Very simple to use. Not expensive.

I had the 1040 long form, Schedule B, interest, dividends, Schedule C for oil & gas partnership, Schedule A for itemized deductions/charity donations/mortgage interest, IRA cost basis form. Would work fine for you. Some people are scared of the online security, but it never bothered me. Only issue I ever had with TaxAxt was sometimes it was a pain to print.

2) Last year I switched to buying the H&R Block software (Premium Home & Business) because they package the estate forms in with the Business and Taxact did not have the estate forms at all. The H&R Block Home part (1040 etc) was extremely easy to use, maybe easier than TaxAct online). And not expensive if you don't have to buy the Business/Estate part. This would work fine for you too.

I would recommend it for you - you could probably finish up your personal federal return in less than an afternoon. You get 5 free federal e-files with it. You get one state return of your state choice, but state e-file costs $19.95 more, so I just printed it and mailed it via paper. In future years you can import the previous year's data to save time.

I think the H&R Block had a slight edge over TaxAct in terms of ease of use and the online security bit. And had no printing issues either.

ETA, this year I also had the home energy credit from the extra attic insulation and new sliding glass door that I bought. They had a form for that too

The software for the personal 1040 return loaded with no issues in about 30 seconds.

It was only the Business/Estate stuff that I got an error loading. So don't let that worry you for your question about using it.
