Yeah, I don't think it will be too hard. The main goal will be, I imagine, to get them to a level where the English school system won't be a traumatic transition. From my understanding, getting maths up to speed and ensuring grammar/vocabulary skill are high will go a long way toward achieving that goal. History is another issue - their background won't include much of what seems to be essential in the UK - but their unique background is special, and hopefully will translate.

I don't have any doubts that you can manage it all, and with many, many fewer hours per day than in public school. We found, since we heard their thought processes and saw their work one-on-one, it was very easy to decide when mastery had occurred without any testing.

Will the school they attend in the UK have the high stakes age-based testing (I think it was age 11 and then another a few years later)? How will they be assessed for placement when they show up for their first term?

I've thought about the US to UK transition occasionally, because my brother is listed as guardian, but so is Peter's brother, and I wonder what would happen if my kids ended up having to go to England if we died.

That was what our 10 days with DH was like . He was here, but fully embedded in work. I love that he is a hard worker and is making our income possible, but I wish he had a bit more free time for family, particularly when we see him so few days per month.

Oh, and you might be able to just do the maths via your local school district (pretty good offerings for homeschoolers there). Many homeschoolers choose to remain independent, usually via declaration and compliance with some state-based guidelines, because they can use the curriculum they like and don't have to have weekly teacher assessments, as they would in school programs. Also, being in a school program defines your child as a public school student; it's not a negative, but it means the school is responsible for overseeing the education, not necessarily the parents.

We did Singapore Math, whenever we used a formal program, and I understand they're still rating very high with active homeschoolers. They're paper-based, so it would work regardless of the internet status.

Most of the online groups I followed were unschooling groups, which I don't feel will fit what you need to do. Homeschool Buyer's Coop is useful for discounts on specific programs and streaming services.

You're welcome - great resource

We always use videos for learning; historical fiction, documentaries, literary interpretations, stuff like the 1900s House, the Victorian Kitchen, Frontier House, etc. The kids are obsessed with Miyazaki (Hayao Miyazaki) movies, from Studio Ghibli. They learn about Japanese culture and geography, different spirituality (my kids both believe in ghosts and spirits, but neither has a strong feeling about a single patriarchal god), human relations, etc.

Amber! I was thinking of you. About the scarves. Besides the stash of "regular" scarves I found, there was a box marked "Russian scarves" and another marked "warm Russian scarves." The in-laws went to Russia multiple times. OMG. They are gorgeous. If you remind me in about a week, I can take some pictures. I just packed them to take home. They are just abso-bloomin-lutely stunning.

Yeah did I make it more confusing? LOL Yeah what Amber said.

If you have nothing but cleanings and stuff, you don't pay anything all year. The first time you need a filling, you pay that $50 then the 80% of everything the rest of the year. Sometimes they'll do something you've been putting off since you're already got the deductible paid or they might postpone something if you've hit your yearly max already. Or as in poor Amber's case, lifetime.

Duke is actually 5-1 this season. Tech is just 3-3.

This weekend is Tech's homecoming.

Post 14957. If I quote it, it'll lose where I quoted you, and I'm too tired now to fiddle with double quoting.

Yeah GT sucks this year. Thanks for the warning, we will be driving to the airport and the interstate goes right by GT, but I think we'll be okay, we don't plan to exit there or anything.

I'm not sure what time we'll head out. I forget what time the flight is, but it's early or mid afternoon. And we have to return the rental and print our boarding pass and go through security.... (printer here doesn't work)

Get home around 7 Sat. night. Well, to the airport. Then have to get a cab home cos DD is working.

This evening, I got the two extra luggage bags filled. And my carry-ons are pretty well set too, except for the last bits, which I'll do Sat. morning. My bag will be fine, whatever was in there will go back in.

Okay I'm beat. Goodnight!

LOL - you've confused my Tech with yours!

Virginia Tech is 3-3 and I'm going to their game vs. Duke. This happens to be VT's homecoming weekend.

Georgia Tech is 2-4. They do have a home game at 3:00 tomorrow, against Boston College (1-4).

They are just abso-bloomin-lutely stunning.
OMG! I can't wait to see them. I bet they're gorgeous. I hope you took every last one of them home with you. Scarves are timeless!
