And I'm off to bed. Tired and beat. The trunk is full of those tall kitchen garbage bags, all full of clothes. Seriously they are crammed in there. Then a layer of FIL's suits and jackets. DH and DS are much bigger than FIL ever was, so no hope of using anything.

I, on the other hand, did some "shopping" from MIL's collection. Not a lot, but I was very picky and did find some things.

And DH pulled down two more pieces of luggage from the attic. Southwest lets you check two bags for free. So we are going to do that!

I didn't realize you meant an RV for 7-8 months!!! Does DH retire soon?

WOW, what an adventure! Stowaways, anyone?

Feb 1st 2014. With his terminal leave we should be able to leave early December 2013. So, we are looking at options.

It's a marching band competition held at a nearby college. It's a big all-day event, one that the college has held annually for at least 25 years. (By "big", I mean a total of about 45 bands. The largest of the 3 competitions we've been in the last few weeks had 15 bands.) So unless the people in charge are all new to it this year, it surprises me that they don't have more info available already.

If they had originally said something more like "Schedule available after October 10", or even October 15, that would be fine with me.

But to say "in October" and not having an update and the month being 1/3 of the way through - that's annoying to me.

And good afternoon. I spent the day with preschoolers. Wheeeee. LOL
Some of the little boys were quite active but overall it wasn't a bad class. No temper tantrums or anything like that.
I can now say that I've worked with all 6 kids from one family. The oldest is in 10th grade now.

How much fun, to be planning such a trip! I've contemplated a similar trip several times for our family (usually after reading about a family that actually did it!) and spent time poring over floor plans and storage ideas and minimizing stuff articles, thinking how we would do it. Most recent plan was converted bus (because of the fantastic resale value) with bunkroom/playroom in back and DH and I sleeping on pull-out in the kitchen/living area.

But ultimately, we're settled here (except for DH working in SD, LOL), in our dream house, and it would take a lot to shift us.

But I love planning and floor plans, so I'm envious I have homeschool resources, so let me know if you need info. If you're going back to England, though, they'll need pretty rigorous schooling in order to catch up, right?

Yes, you're right but I will gratefully take any information you have on homeschooling, best US texts too. We will be doing more of the British syllabus but want to do some American geography and history, too.

Saw Sturbridge Village when I was a teen, and Willamsburg a bit later. Love that stuff. The Revolutionary War was my favorite time period.

You also didn't stop in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Museum. I haven't been there yet. My sister went and loved it.

I've also been to New Orleans and loved it, but I was in my 20s.

Yosemite is awesome. I've never been when it's real busy though.

I haven't been to a lot of those places. Saw Luray as a kid. My parents took us to a lot of caves. I've heard Mammoth is awesome.

The Air Force Museum is in Dayton, Ohio. That's the ONLY tourist thing we did on our cross country trip in '05. We drove like crazy and had to maximize time with both sets of grandparents. But we spent a full day at that museum. DH's father is retired AF. And the kids were still in HS and loved it. Tons of stuff to see and the kids would love it.
And BB would totally meet you there! It is not far from me and hubs loves it. None of the kids have visited it.

ERK the trip sounds so much fun! We have a couple of friends who each bought RV's. They both paid six figures. I can't even imagine. You can rent them as well, if that's a route you'd rather go in order to avoid reselling when your trip is complete.

V, I feel ya on the dental. My insurance has a $2000 lifetime max. I met that with one root canal last year. Sucks beyond belief.

We looked at them too. I was amazed at the cost. They're gorgeous though!

If I got one it would smell like dogs of course, LOL!

Speaking of which, will Cilantro go with you in your travels?

That's kinda like saying that you've visited all 50 states except one 'cuz Marge wouldn't drive across Minnesota to get to Fargo?

I wish we had visited here: Ingalls Homestead | De Smet, SDI loved the Little House books.

But we plan to go back to SD - it really was one of the highlights of our trip. Wouldn't have imagined that, but there is so much to see and do. We'll do Little House when we go back.

We're talking about buying a used tent trailer (pop-up). The 4H events we attend usually only have camping for trailers, not tents, so we end up having to stay offsite in a (more expensive) hotel.

But we'll have to wait until after we pay for our trip to England in Nov 2013 (the in-laws, except Peter's sister and family and his mum and dad, haven't seen the kids for over 10 years - we have to manage it somehow).

Anyway, so much to see, so much planning, so much fun!

Stopped on the way home for a haircut. My regular girl (well, for 3 visits) had quit. Not sure I like the cut.

I like my Elmhurst stylist but too hard to sneak out of work to get there (at new job). And forget getting a Saturday appointment unless one of the blue and curl regulars dies off.

Taking Thus and Fri off. Going to a Stampscapes retreat Thus to Sunday. It's about 40 minutes from here so I'll commute. Probably leave the house around 8am, drive back around 8pm. That way I can do Shadows morning and bedtime walks myself.

I commuted last Oct to the same event. The commuting worked out pretty well.

Perfect ages for it, IMO. Old enough to be interested in everything and (more importantly), to remember most of it, and also to entertain themselves on the drive, given adequate resources. Do you know if you'll have internet access? Via satellite or just cellular service? We had very limited cell service for a lot of our travels, but I don't know how expensive satellite internet is. We hooked up at the hotels, and I know a lot of private campgrounds have internet connectivity.

One advantage of commuting is that if I forgot anything, I can just bring it the next morning.

Would a smart phone be enough these days? Maybe a tablet with wireless and/or phone?

The largest of the 3 competitions we've been in the last few weeks had 15 bands.) So unless the people in charge are all new to it this year, it surprises me that they don't have more info available already.

If they had originally said something more like "Schedule available after October 10", or even October 15, that would be fine with me.

But to say "in October" and not having an update and the month being 1/3 of the way through - that's annoying to me.
That is pretty bizarre. Sounds like somebody forgot to update it!
