The bus situation was kind of a non-issue today. The boys had marching band practice after school, so ODS drove. YDS rode the bus in the morning, and then rode it from the middle school to the high school to get to practice.

I did keep an eye out for the bus this afternoon, and when the boys ride it, they'll still get home about 3:50.

After morning routines get more settled in a few weeks, we'll consider letting ODS take YDS to school on band practice days. He'd have to make a left turn both into and out of the middle school, without benefit of a traffic signal or anyone directing traffic. DH and I want him to get more comfortable driving in the morning traffic before we let him have a passenger and have to deal with the left turns. Letting him go solo a few times first will also let him figure out the best time to leave the house to try to avoid some of the traffic congestion.

Up and getting ready for Meggie's arrival today. Desperately hoping today is a bit less interesting than yesterday...

I just got what ODS was trying to tell me about the bus situation.

The way the route and the deal with the elementary students has been reworked, he and YDS will get on the bus about 20-25 minutes earlier in the afternoon, but will still get home at the same time they used to.

As goofy a deal as that sounds, I do think it's better than what the elementary kids got stuck with. They're having to get on the bus at least 30 minutes earlier in the mornings and being taken past the elementary school in order to drop off the middle and high school students first, then being driven back to the elementary school. (ETA: Just realized, since the elementary students are now switched to second busload there, they probably get home 15 to 30 minutes later than they used to.)

I sure hope these changes are saving the county a crapload of money.

Ha ha ha. They needed to insert "for high school students" into sentence one.

Traffic probably isn't as big an issue there as here. They had those portable electronic road signs out more than a week in advance of our high school's opening on Monday, with the date school started and "expect traffic delays." Of course it's always worse the first few days but with nearly 3,000 students, yeah. It's bad.

Of course if you lived on that side of town, your middle school is right across the street from the high school. We live on the opposite side of town from the HS, so my kids took the city bus (no school buses here) to HS every day. But the elementary and middle schools are right down the street from us, next to each other. Maybe a 4 minute walk.

I need to make some more Christmas cards. Should get started. I have to do September's in the first three weeks of that month too.

Impressed that you're doing your cards. I'm still "meh" about stamping unfortunately. However, having made all my supplies more accessible at least the kids are using them.

Almost made me snort banana.

lol

I hope that helps. We always keep spray benadryl around because these redheads are more sensitive to any kind of bite.

I think I have 68 done already! I "committed" (a challenge) to 8 per month. So far so good (and then some). But I won't count leftovers in my challenge. Would just be kidding myself.

But I completely empathize with how "kids" changes everything you do. I basically didn't read for about 15 years. Well I read - short stuff. Articles, magazines, newsletters, then online stuff. Finally back to books. I just got interrupted too much. It wasn't worth it.

I think if I'd had a hobby like stamping, the same thing would have happened. When DH and I got into ham radio in Florida, we didn't have kids yet, and several of the older guys said that the most active hams are before kids (or no kids) and after retirement.

And of course depending on how much space you had devoted to the hobby, you'd be looking at what you're not using and thinking.... maybe for awhile you try to just maintain and run in there and do a quick card when you need one, but you can't put your heart into it, you can't get in there and relax and just feel creative.

Happy events today! Cousin's daughter arrived safely on her flight home, got her set up on stamping room while I finished docs for work.

Off to zzzz now.

She brought earplugs for the trip.

I'm going to WW tomorrow. I'm not at goal, but I'm within ten. I've been floating there. I'll keep trying to stay on track, I seem to start over every day, but my left foot has been bugging me so I haven't been walking. Hard to lose without exercise. I figure if I'm still up after the trip to Atlanta next month, I'll start going every week til I lose it again.

Got another band-aid on my arm today, thanks to Sir Spicy McBitey. Sheesh.

He is funny though. He was chasing a tennis ball the length of the kitchen and running back, and then he just took off like a rocket, ran the length of the kitchen and back three times, as fast as he possibly could. Too funny.
