She was only 32 - which would have made her only 20-22 years old when I listened to her. I had no idea she was so young. She was awesome. She dared to play alternative music before any other stations did. One of the things I was reading, another person said that she was probably the first person outside of Georgia who played R.E.M. Remember several months ago I was talking about listening to a cassette of songs I'd taped off the radio when I was a teenager? Her voice is on it.

I also learned that another DJ from the same station, who started my mornings with a smile, died in 2002 at the age of 44. He was a shock jock long before that term was coined. He was offensive - I remember being stunned when he played the Peter Gabriel song "Shock the Monkey" when one of the Briley brothers was executed - but he also had a sharp wit and apparently a heart of gold, raising money for the S.P.C.A. and other charities.

I feel like a significant part of my youth has died.
Oh Patricia.

Very sad to hear.

Three Dog Night, Hollies, loved them.
I still love John Denver. Totally and shamelessly!!!

Rocky mountain hiiii-i-i-ii-igh!!!! I made BFF listen to that our whole drive through Colorado. It was the summer of my 27th year.

She was pretty much ready to burn the tape by the time we got to Utah, LOL... ah for the lost days of homemade cassette tape mixes for road trips...

It's been on the news some. Someone in the state died from it recently which is pretty scary. At least with Lyme disease you can check for ticks. I just tend not to get too scared by stuff. My basic feeling is, take the precautions you're comfortable taking but you can't stop living your life. I guess I don't want to miss out on doing everything I love in life because I'm worried something might happen.

Less stress makes an amazing difference. My last job is probably one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had in my life. I really feel for anyone in a job that sucks that much out of them.

But I want to know more about the magnetic sheets. They need to be sturdy enough to not flop around in there or everything falls off, right?

I'll have to look next time I'm at the store.
That does look interesting. Although I may just use old tins from the diecuts... Just realized i can probably condense a few and use them for the framelits.

Although having seen your nestabilities collection, I think you might need something on the order of magnetic trunk like the ones we took to college!

What my friend Sue did is get magnetic duct (vent) covers at Ace Hardware. Then she stapled them to a big bulletin board.

So I can still be in the loop and such.

We had Halloween cancelled - well moved - one year in FL. There was West Nile around and they didn't want kids out in the evening. They didn't want anyone out in the evening! So the whole county moved Halloween to a Saturday afternoon - and everyone happily went along with it.

DD and I went off to drop off her receipt for new SS card at work place where she'll be working part time for the fall, til Halloween. She can't find her card so we applied for a new one Monday and needed to take the receipt in.

They said her SS# wasn't on it and it needs to be. ARGH. I was thinking, how can they ask for that when the SS office doesn't put it on there? DD thought maybe she should have said she needed it for work? So we get to the SS office and tell the nice man and he wants to know who told her that. There's a reason it's not on the form... identify theft. She told him and he said they would have agents out there, the work place is supposed to accept the receipt, they have her # from the application and he said they have a number to call to make sure it all matches. So we learned a lot. Back we go to the work place (which nicely was halfway between home and the SS Office (which is 13 miles from home)). She's in there almost an hour. Apparently her note that she had been injured on the job at previous work (her back) got attention and they got a (she said very hot) paramedic to talk to her and check her out and give the OK. Sheesh.

I was very glad we'd stopped on the way out at Starbucks and the library, so I got 32 pages into my book while waiting, also had to put the windows up twice and run the a/c for a few minutes.

So she gets back and I have the car on and said, "Drive, I have to pee." HAHAHA Plus SHE was starving. She found a McD's via her phone, closest one, amazingly not where I expected - need to get a map and look because I was so turned around. But it was sort of on the way home. Got grilled chicken bacon ranch salad, headed home but she remembered one headlight was out so we stopped at an Auto Zone and got that and got the nice man to install it for us. Then a quick stop at Walgreen's so I could get more of that cooling gel. I want to have one upstairs, one downstairs and one in my purse. Mission accomplished. So we were gone for four hours. ACK!

Oh yeah, the SS man did give her a piece of paper to go with the receipt, said they really don't like to do that because people toss them in the trash, etc. But she was all set.

The worst part about it was not knowing exactly why Mom was so sick for so long. She started feeling sick - feverish, chills, completely worn out, etc. - around the 4th of July. When it became apparent it wasn't a normal case of the flu, she was tested for Lyme and West Nile and I think a few other things too. It was probably August before she really felt better. But all the test results confirming it was West Nile didn't come back until the next January or February.

That was summer of 2003. Hopefully the testing has changed since then to provide quicker confirmation and results.

Yikes Patricia. VERY glad she got through it ok.

Luckily I have my planning period and lunch at the same time so I'll have 1.5 hours for lunch instead of 25 minutes. We are planning in having lunch every Friday this year.
So I can still be in the loop and such.

I do well as a kept woman. Haha!
I can understand that. My retirement plan 2-3 years ago was to keep contracting and take longer and longer between contracts as the shop did better so I could do more creative stuff, since at that point I'd paid all the bills for a few years while STBX started his business.

That would have been nice.

What is this "cooling gel" of which you speak?

I need a gallon of it. All over my body.

Because last Friday's marching band "let's show the parents what we've accomplished so far" event was moved inside because of the impending thunderstorm (that never materialized - oh well!), the parents were invited to the end of practice today. The principal of the elementary school across the road from the high school is letting the band practice on the soccer field there, so that's where we watched them this evening.

I was able to get one good shot of my boys in action close together. There's a color guard girl behind YDS twirling her flag; she really isn't wearing a wacky skirt. And yes, those ARE hay bales in the background. Gotta love our rural setting...

Icing my foot down tonight... Not that it's hurting or anything. But there is still a tad bit of swelling in it since I've been on my feet All day. Not chancing that it will keep me from being in a shoe. I'll probably lose a toe due to frost bite.... Brerrrr.
