Morning!

IT IS SNOWING! 4-8 inches predicted; double that near the lake.

When Steve was at college, I ate lots of fish - mostly the frozen tilapia filets which I think are pretty good.

But he hates fish so I rarely cook it now. Need to eat more of it.

Oh nice!

I bet you're glad you don't have to drive to and from work in it.

Back in from volunteering at school. Grading papers today. Just time for a coffee, then I need to get milk and a couple of other things. Turkey pot pie for dinner tonight using half of what is defrosting. The other half will go to something with pasta tomorrow. Then I need to work on the praying manits costume for the second grade musical. Somehow I volunteered to do costumes. Help is also supposed to be coming from other parents. Why do I do these things?!

They are doing one called Bugz. About a lot of bugs and insects who are trying to gatecrash a picnic. I think for the stink bug we'll hang a small string of garlic around the childs neck! We're making simple fabric tubes which tie over the shoulders alowwing for short or tall kids. There are already some black strips of fabric with a hole for the head like a tabard. We'll add some ties to the sides and these are going to be the base for ladybugs. We found plain grey t-shirts which we're going to camo paint for army ants and use milk jugs to make hats for them. Then stick antennae through the hats. Butterflies and then some caterpillars which change into butterflies. Another mum came over yesterday morning and we worked for a couple of hours sorting ( I'd already washed the white fabric we found leftover from a previous performance) working out exactly what we needed. Now to get a team to make the stuff. The performance is on Feb 2nd. Yup, 3 weeks away! New music teacher so she's really apologetic about the short notice! I'll take some pictures.

Oh and the boll weevil. We took a black tabard and hot glued white cotton balls all over it! It's antenna will have cotton balls on the ends.

Oh ERK. You KNOW we're going to want to see pictures!

It sounds cute, but also like a bunch of work.

Read ahead and saw your door knob post. We have closet knobs on all the doors. No need for locks here except on the bathroom.

Its a shame that y'all never really got true compliments. I remember my parents telling me I was beautiful and smart from the time I was born. Whether it was true or not didn't matter because I knew my parents thought so. My parents always gave me the impression that I could do anything I wanted to if I just set my mind to it...and I believed them.

A teacher in town (high school I went to) got arrested yesterday for having sex with a 14 year old student.

New teachers are so close in age to upper classmen. I think its a recipe for disaster sometimes.

She was 40 he was 14. Sick. I mean I'm sure as a stupid 14 year old kid he was gung ho about iot but that's why he's considered a minor and it's a big no no. Bad choice. An adult should NEVER put a CHILD in that situation. She's in jail on almost 2 million bail!

A similar situation came to light in our area. The boys were 17 and the woman was forty-ish. Lots of people fighting on the side of the woman, though. Saying the boy couldn't have been forced, etc. They came to her home and were willing participants, etc. Bottom line, she knew it was wrong. She did it anyway. You pay the price. She went to prison.

Similar situation here, too. Late 40s mother of teenagers struck up an affair with a 14-year-old boy. Lots of "you can't make this stuff up" type drama about it a year ago. Currently the boy is in juvenile detention for breaking into the woman's home, and the woman is serving jail time.

I feel sorry for the woman's children.

Yes, I feel so sorry for the woman's children in our area too. The boys were friends of her son's. The boys were all 18 when it came out and none of them pressed charges and were not happy about being drug through the mud with the entire thing. It was so ugly here.

DH texted and asked if we needed anything. He will stop and pick it up on his way home from work. (We are expecting bad weather today. All evening activities are canceled for school.)

I replied "General Tso Chicken, extra spicy"

Soft Pretzels

Ingredients;

4 tbs active dry yeast
3 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
8-9 cups of all purpose flour
1 egg, beaten
coarse salt to taste

Directions: Mix yeast and warm water in large bowl
Add sugar, salt and four cups of flour
Stir and add rest of flour
knead on floured surface until smooth
Shape into pretzels and place on greased cookie sheet(I use parchment paper)
Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.

Bake at 425 for 10-15 minutes(I find that it takes longer to get the golden color I want)

I make pepperoni and cheese calzones, ham and cheese, veggie, or just plain pretzels with a dipping sauce. The recipe is huge! You may want to cut it in half.

Cook it for yourself. Have some kind of bag of frozen chicken fillet for him and the fish for you - I always admired how you'd get fish when you ate out, I'm not a real big fish eater but I'll eat it at home. I like the bags of individually frozen and wrapped fish fillets from Costco. They have some plain tilapia, they have some garlic and sea salt mahi mahi (drool), I try different kinds as long as they aren't battered. Or soaked in oil. I check the labels and nutritional values. But I also like that I can quick defrost them, comes in handy some nights.
