hello raquilla,

Glad so see you found us. I've got the day off work and there are some good online sales today so I'm goofing around on the puter today.

WHat got you interested in stamping?

I went to a Stampin up workshop and got so inspired by the Demonstrators work. She is a very talented lady.

I just love the feel and look of homemade cards and can't bring myself to buy cards now.

So many people got their introduction to stamping thru SU!. I even introduced a couple myself when I was a demo. It's a great way to learn about the craft.

I'm assuming it is still being approved.

Check facebook here

Or news report here

FYI, the post office would be about 10km east of the fire. I'm about 60km north but unaffected as it was heading south.

I think the Victorian fires are very fresh in most minds. Even though this isn't tearing through anywhere near as quickly, it is still pretty distressing for the locals.

The photo on facebook is extraodinary. A gutted house, still ablaze with smouldering ground and trees. It is like a train wreck; you know it is someone's home and you want to look away but it is mesmerising. A work of art in that it makes you think. I hope it will appear.

The photo is a real juxtapose - beautiful and terrible all at the same time. The fires I first thought of were the ones the Eastern Hills went thru last year (or early this year).

I have only been stamping for the past few years. We travel with our caravan through the riverland fairly often and I always used to make my husband stop at Paringa so I could go into the scrapbooking store there, but now it is closed! Bummer. It was a great little stop, as there is a nice little bakery there, plus a park area to eat in and toilets. I really miss the shop, Tim doesn't though. LOL.

Feel very bad for those people being burned out in WA because we have had so much rain this past week, it has been difficult. Made all the more difficult because I have one extrememly sick old horse who I thought was about to die, when it turned out she only had a cold, but complicated by food caught in her throat. Aaaarrrrgh! Just when I could see some craft money, along comes another vet bill.

Hope everyone are well...

Worrisome news all round. Hope the horse gets better soon.

My DD survived schoolies week She's back home and now awaiting a call back from the council for a final interview for a traineeship. Crossing fingers and toes for her.

Today, I'm finally, finally, getting stuck nto cleaning up my offcuts from my paper trimmer. Ihad a pile nearly 2" high which was getting in the way of my cutting paper, lol. Geez I'm so lazy sometimes.

And while I'm at it I'm purging my paper stash. The thicker stuff I'm cutting up with my sizzix dies (boxes and envelopes) and I'll sell them off at next club day. The other stuff I'll only keep if I really, really love it, or I'll give it away.

Karen, I saw a trotter named "Where's My Wallet?" That seems to sum up owning a horse.

They are beautiful, graceful, amazing animals but I realise how lucky I am to be very alergic to the feeds, hair and dust that accompanies them.

Just so you don't feel alone in your poverty, DH had a BOAT (Bring Out Another Thousand), so I understand your pain.

Jan R- My heart goes out to you and your family, especially your sister-in-law. That is just heartbreaking.

What medium do you want to colour with? A dry medium (think pastels, chalks, pencils) or wet medium (think watercolouring, markers). I know nothing about alcohol markers except most recommend memento ink for stamping images for those.

With a dry medium you will be okay with using your dye inks (SU are dye inks). If you were to use a wet medium with dye inks, the image will run/smear. So your best bet there would be to use a stazon ink or heat emboss the image with powder.

The resource section has a few tuts on colouring. Gina K is another good source with videos. HTH
Thanks Teresa! I ended up using stazon and then colouring in using my SU dye inks mixed with a drop of water for a watercolour-like consistency. I only had a little bit to do though, and am still going to look into and try out some of your suggestions for future projects and to find what suits my "style" best iykwim

Hi, I use stazon ink to stamp the image onto water colour paper and then use SU markers and the aqua painters to shade and colour. I find water colour paint works really well too
Hi Raquelle, welcome to the "Aussie" section Thanks for the info, I haven't tryed aqua painters yet!

Might have to purchase and inexpensive set of watercolours...I can't keep using my dye inks if projects get bigger LOL

Dye inks go a long way. I've not exhausted any of my inks yet and I'm not backward in being liberal with them. What sort of ink to you use? Pad? Reinkers?

If you own any of the SU ink pads, you know you can use the lid for you colour palette. Has anyone showed you how to do that? The lids have been designed for that purpose.

I saw a snake in my back yard for the first time. I've been living here 18 months, and I suspect they've been here all along. Ilive next door to a paddock. We just happen to miss crossing paths. Up until today.

I worry about my dog taking them on. Pretty sure that is how I lost my cat - he'd front up to anything! And the dog, being a staffy and only 18 months is the same.

So sometime between now and Saturday I have a birthday card for DD who is turning 10 (When the heck did that happen?) and BIL who I have no idea how old he is. I have no idea what I'm going to craft. And I also have 2 dozen cupcakes for school on friday and a birthday cake for Saturday, as well as garlic bread, rissoles, salad, and I'm sure I've forgotten something. As well as being away from home 5 hours a day. Oh and I still have xmas shopping to do!

Hey Kath, what are you intending to do with all your spare time this week? LOL. It does tend to get a bit mad at this time of the year. I have bought 1 Xmas present! LOL. I am lazy in that department and usually just give my daughters money and get them to buy for the grandchildren, they know exactly what the kids need or want. I guess I am going to have to get the tree out soon or the littlies will be nagging me. LOL. I was told recently about someone who obviously had plenty of storage space, they just left their tree decorated all the time, just covered it up, put it in a spare room and brought it out already done each year. I would love to be able to do that.

Hey Kath, I've just done the cupcake/birthday cake thing. Want an easy, moist chocolate cake recipe that is pretty cheap to make?

Place 185g butter, 1 1/4 cups (275g) sugar, 1/3 cup (35g) cocoa, 1/2 tsp bicarb, 1/3 cup (80ml) water, 3/4 cup (180ml) milk in saucepan. Stir over heat until butter is melted. Bring to boil then walk away until cooled to room temperature. Come back later when you have time and throw in 2 eggs and 2 1/4 cups (335g) of SR flour. Stir with a wooden spoon until smooth.

Pour into prepared pan/s and bake in moderate oven until springs back.

24 cup cakes - about 18min each or
1 x 23cm square cake pan - about 40 minutes

I made a double quantity and did 48 cupcakes. I froze them, frosted them while frozen, then left them in the fridge until I was ready for school the next morning. They look awesome with white chocolate frosting and caucous (the little silver balls).

Best white choc frosting was, Melt 170g white chocolate with 1/4 cup cream (regular whipping cream, not the thickened or lite) over hot water. When smooth refrigerate until cool (you can leave it in there until you are ready). Add 225g butter and 1 cup icing sugar mix and beat until light and fluffy. (makes about 3 cups). If the ganache isn't completely cool, the butter will melt and the frosting will be runny but leaving it in the fridge for a couple of hours fixes that problem.

By now, I'm sure you see my theme - 'when you are ready...'

I did the chocolate syrup for the cake and the ganache for the frosting at the same time in the afternoon, finished the cake in the evening when I was cooking dinner in the oven and finished the frosting after dinner. I only needed the mixer for finishing the frosting and I used the mixer bowl to melt the ganache then put it in the fridge for later, so the washing up was easy too.

Good luck with all the rest! Gotta love the December rush.

My cat was more of a 'get out of my face' kinda guy. He always wanted to go out hunting. We had no end of problems trying to keep him in at night. Got to the point where he wouldn't even come back for dinner, in case we locked him in. I recall one night when he sprayed the laundry and toilet because he was so angry at us. Domestic bordering on feral!"

Never have another cat after that one.

I can see where at times it migh seem silly that we "bust a gut" sometimes to keep them in the luxury they figure they deserve, but the pleasure I get from them always makes it worthwhile. I bred a foal from one of my horses that won races and that doesn't happen everyday to everyone; my old mare has a huge fan base all around the world and Starbug is just so beautiful ... there is a link on my blog to the animals of Unicorn farm where there are pictures of them all.

My cat is very C A S U A L most days. He was living in the wilderness before he attached himself to me. He only really gets needy for comforting and sooking during winter. But he is nearly always waiting for me near my drive way when ever I get home. and it doesn't matter what time I get home, he senses that I'm on my way and will be there to see me in. Sometimes he's a bit late and I'll see him running to get to the driveway before I do. LOL. He sees me off most mornings too. He was like that even before I took him in. Thats why I say he picked me, and I just agreed to our living arrangement.

Like, I know I'm crazy sometimes..... but is anyone else here doing any of the 12 tags of Crhistmas with Tim Holtz. I'm going to try and participate this year. I've watched them every year and I love not only the inspiration from TH but also the tags made by his followers.

I very much doubt I'll get them all done. I've got so much on my to do list already. I like how it has got more interactive this year. I've got most of the first one done.

I don't do them, but I do watch them. I follow Tim and Mario Rossi on Twitter and just love what they do and what you can find out...

I have all the tags since he has been doing them marked in my reader as special to be kept and love getting them out from time to time. Bit cross I missed the first one because I can't get enough volume on DD's laptop while mine is with the mister fixit. Have to hunt down grandson2, tie him up, search his room, probably hidden under the lizard dirt in the fish tank (the ear buds) and then run like hell after I untie him...lol.

Agreed Karen, my furbabies love me unconditionally, well Ghost does have her moments but she's a lap hog LOL she hates my laptop, when I'm not using it she'll sit on Dad's lap but as soon as I turn the laptop on she will come and try to sit on mine. Ghost + laptop = no room for me LOL

Ohh I love horses, I've not been riding in so long. How lovely about your foal, you must be thrilled.

Does anyone else buy their pets Christams presents? Ghost gets fresh salmon for her Christmas lunch, used to cost a lot when I had 5 cats I can tell you. Trying to stop them stealing the other's lunch was a job in itself. I only have Ghost now
