So....project #3...

sewing the seam on DS's boxer briefs...new but probably made in china and the seam was already ripped out!

DD, doing Homework next to me commented that "sewing those counts as a project, Mom." So wow..I'm up to 3! haha

LOL!! I would count it, too!!! If I actually took needle and thread to something, it counts!!

Found out this afternoon that I will be working full time for an unknown amount of time. Our assistant therapist has requested a medical leave of absence and my boss has told her he will give her time to try and get treatment (she is having severe anxiety attacks), so I could be full time for a month, 6 months, who knows. If it turns out that she cannot come back to work, then he will look into hiring another assistant vs me full time (my pay scale is higher being a therapist vs assistant...makes business sense). I decided that it would be stupid to say no in these uncertain times (and DH is a financial advisor, commission pay, so with the market so iffy, one should not take offered work hours lightly). The only good thing is that I will know what my schedule is vs thinking that I'm not working only to be called in last minute

oh that is a benefit. I hated the 5 or 6 weeks I worked as a substitute teacher. The uncertainty, the early calls...ugh

yeah....I always argue with myself as to whether or not I'm going to answer the "text ding" on my phone when it is work!! LOL....actually, a couple of times I didn't hear the ding (don't carry my phone with me everywhere! Shocking, I know!!) and have almost missed some calls

You're right that it makes the most sense. Just know that you have to limit your availability for volunteer time instead and be willing to say no. There are other people who can do it and if it's done differently or if it doesn't get done, the world isn't gonna fall apart. In fact, for some people, the only way to get them to step in is for nobody else to be available.

I got my quilt blocks sewn into strips today, but now I have to figure out what to use as backing and see if I have enough batting. I really like the basting spray, but I don't want to spray it in the house and it's too cold outside, so I may have to thread baste - yuck! That is really the only part of quilt making that I really don't like.

That's true. My boss told me that if I already had stuff scheduled just to let him know and we block out those days (we have an intern at the clinic right now, so that helps...and he seems pretty on top of things which is even better!!). But for the most part, it is saying NO that will get me through this.

I've already decided that I will go buy a Ott (is that the brand?!) light for my craft area as I will now have to do stamping in the evening and my lighting is HORRIBLE in this room. Not sure how I'll take pics. Maybe the light will be enough to get some decent photos.

The worse thing is I will miss my oldest's last 3 baseball games next week and possibly some field trips in the near future....but it's good for DH to attend some of those things with his boys!!

I was feeling kind of sorry for myself and decided that I just might have to buy myself some nesties as a "consolation" BWHAHAAA!! So much for my extra $$, LOL!!

I should add that DH DOES attend most of the games and has gone on field trips. But I feel kinda bad because I wont be there and I always try to attend such things with/for my kids (one of the main reasons I've been a SAHM and have never returned to work full time!)

Ott lights are wonderful. I have two of the folding ones, although one has to be propped up, 'cause the part that holds it open broke (too much use). But there are other styles than what I have.

I figure I'll see what I can find on the shelf that isn't too expensive. A folding one would be nice. I think Joann's is having a sale too. Or maybe that was last week, that would be my luck!

JoAnns has Ott lights on sale almost all the time - usually 50% off. Or you can use a coupon if it isn't on sale.

Not usually. I just use a flash. And my pics are nothing special. But I have no great ambitions to be a great photographer.

But I need a lot of light when I'm crafting, no matter what variety, and the Ott lights are wonderfully bright. I really need to get an ott floor lamp for by my chair where I quilt or crochet, etc.

I'm hoping that the Ott light will enable me to take a 1/2 decent photo of my cards at night.....otherwise, I will only be able to upload on weekends!! (hahahaa....that's pretty much what happens now anyways, I guess!!)

Had my cuttle club today. On the 3rd card, I totally forgot to have them use their cuttlebugs - duh! We were supposed to emboss part of the card - not that it wasn't ok without, but...

Good for him!! (speaking of DSs....I have to go quiz my oldest for a science test right now....seems that DH doesn't feel that is his "expertise", but mine!)

Hey Girls!!
got rudely awakened again this morning with another 4.3 earthquake (centered just a couple of miles from us).....haven't felt any aftershocks from it....weird. Usually if they are centered that close we get aftershocks

Wanted to do the inspiration challenge today and since I couldn't find my desk I decided to just clean off that area to make room for my new ott light.....somehow that has led to a major cleaning spree in my craft area again....how is it that cleaning my craft area means making a bigger mess?!!!

SEE! I knew there was a good reason for NOT living in S. Cal.!

I managed to fit in the IC this morning. Yesterday I spent most of the day pinning the quilt layers together - 8 strips of 6 blocks each. Now I have to baste them (great big stitches by hand that just hold the layers together while I quilt) and take the pins back out, so they don't catch the quilting threads while I'm quilting. If it was warm enough to open the doors and windows, I'd have spray basted instead. The difference of maybe 30 minutes to a couple of days time. ---- or if there wasn't a foot of snow outside, maybe I could have done it out there! hahaha!

I still have to come up with THREE (yikes) projects for my Thurs. technique class. But it has really been nice to have a bit of a break from stamping and get my hands on my fabric again.

Last night we went out for Indian food at the Taj Mahal! Yummy stuff & I have leftovers for a lunch next week. (I may have to beat my child off...)

Hmmmm...hope I don't get a weird post....just got a notice that I hadn't written enough...obviously this system does not know who it is talking about!!

Still cleaning. The way things are looking I won't get the IC done, but I might like entering my room more!!

You do realize that it will be a LONG time before it's finished. I have 2 strips basted (6 more to do), but I did start quilting. I can do part of each block before sewing the strips together. And then I think I'll have to use my circle frame. What I'm doing now is just lap quilting (no frame).

Cute froggie, Dawn. I'm not one to do stuffed animals, etc. I think I'll stick with my quilts.

They are more unnerving since you have no warning (unlike tornados/hurricanes etc).....but when you hear those waring sirans, that can be unnerving too!! LOL!! At least you feel as if you have some control with those "natural" ocurrances......

Still trying to get into a groove for a long haul of working full time....so tired when I get home that creativity is NOT flowing out of the brain.....

Although I didn't post it, Starla, I did make another one of those cards yesterday. Gonna use it for class on Thurs., so I needed it the right way & without the extra row of brads.

Now if I can just come up with 2 more cards, I'll be all set... Although, with that one, I may need to cut back to just 2, since it's pretty putzy and takes a lot of time. I guess I'll have to see what the others are and how speedy.

I'm glad it's you working and not me! I just don't think I could get back in that groove. It's been 21 years since I worked full-time.

It is hard to get back into the groove. I have only worked part time off/on for the last 12 years (the off times being years....not days!! LOL!)....but it will help pay for tuition (my kids go to a small private church school). I keep telling my self that it is only for a month/or two. My boss actually has already advertised for an assistant therapist (he is still giving our assistant time, but she has called asking if she could work part time/me part time, but he told her he needs a full time assistant (cost of my salary and if I'm part time, who would cover for his vacations? (my thoughts, hehe))

The hardest part is trying to get life stuff done in the couple of hours before it's time for the kids to go to bed (and me!!). Lights are out early in this household. And I'm finding it very hard to be creative when I've put in a full day at work!!

ugghhh......just realized that DH/I dropped the ball on having youngest get his homework done over the long holiday.....soooo, this week the reading log will not be complete (this is the kid that tends to forget to read, unlike the other one, who gets into trouble for reading when he is suppose to be doing something else) and won't have his piano practiced 5x this week....(not to point fingers...but this is one area that DH REALLY needs to step it up....keeping the kids on track with all their stuff....by the time I get home and dinner done...etc, there is not much time for this stuff!!)
