Let me know how they turned out (not like I'm going to look for a different recipe at this point, LOL! We aren't suppose to make desserts and that was my next option! Well, I told DS (before finding this recipe) the the Welsh cakes were more like a pancake or scone, so they didn't count as a dessert

I liked them. DD said they were OK. I did 3 cups bread crumbs, 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, 3 eggs, sage, thyme, dry mustard, onion pwd., garlic clove, oil, salt & pepper -- forgot the parsley. (I think that's everything I put in.) I baked them at 350 for 25 min. Should have pulled them out at 20. I would make them again. Something a little different. I might use regular or mini muffin cups instead of messing with shaping them in my hands. I didn't coat them - skipped that part. Mark would probably think they are too bland, but I'm sure they could be spiced up a bit. It would seem that you could do all kinds of stuff to them. DD suggested adding corn.

Oh good! I hate making stuff for Ethnic Feast that you KNOW kids won't even consider...it sounds like they might try these at least!!
I'll go shopping for ingredients after I work this morning

Got oldest kid sent off to Az....DH says he (or I) either over packed or most everyone else under packed. I'm going with they all underpacked! LOL...actually, I may have overpacked a bit. The guys are having to stay in tents and the nighttime temps are in the upper 20's low 30's this week. Plus...it's hard to pack for mid 50's weather when you will be doing manual labor...

I think I just became my MIL....sigh....

On the sausages - they also tasted yummy dipped in ranch dressing - lol. I thought they were a little dry - probably because I baked them too long. So, if there is a sauce to serve with them, it might be a good idea.

Got up at 6:00 this morning. I don't think my brain is awake yet. I thought about taking a shower, but decided not. DS was here before 6:15, so it's a good thing I skipped the shower. Drove him to the airport and just dropped him at the door. About an hour and a half round trip.

Oh, yeah. If you shape them like meatballs, they'd be smaller and more likely to be tasted.

So I made "my" version of the sausages tonight for dinner too! We used a bruschetta to dip them in. I think I will take some marinara sauce for tomorrow. My version used about 2cups Italian flavored bread crumbs, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, 7 oz of an English White Cheddar I found in the speciality section, about 1/4 c diced red onion, aboutr 1/4 c sun dried tomatoes, julianned (second batch I cut them up into smaller pieces), about 1/4 c sliced olives, heaping tbsp of fresh Basil and of course the 3 eggs and some milk. I will omit the salt next time as I thought it was too salty...but we don't usually add salt to the cooking here, so it could just be our taste buds. I skipped the breaded coating also and backed at 350 for 20 min (first batch 25...a bit much!) and I made them in meatball shape on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray.
DH thought they would be good as a vegetarian "meatball" with pasta or as an appetizer or side dish. Tonight I had them as the main course with some finger veggies as the side. Youngest just liked them period. I'll make them again, I'm sure.

Good, I'm glad they worked for you. From the different sites I looked at, these were a staple in Wales when times were hard and meat was scarce. I think there's a lot of tweaks you could do to change them up a bit.

I agree!! I will probably play around with some other "flavorings"....maybe some sweet bell peppers...or more spicy one?!

It is nice to have a basic idea and just be able to add with what is on hand!

I actually thought they could easily be substituted for real meatballs and what people don't know...

If they are covered in sauce, people believe what they want to believe. I am very tempted to try them in cocktail meatballs. If the meatball is small enough, they get popped right in your mouth without checking the texture inside, which is where I thought the greatest difference was.

I just made real meatballs Wed. nite & used a melon baller to make them nice and tiny. I bake them, freeze them on a flat baking sheet & then pack them in containers for back in the freezer. So easy to use, because they aren't all frozen together.

When my youngest kiddo bit into one, the first thing out of his mouth was "these are like meatballs! Except a little different". I agree that people will believe they are the "real" thing without hesitation, especially if they are in sauce.

I should make up a batch and try freezing them. Then they would be "ready" for pasta, etc....

But first I have to just get the layer off my kitchen from making them the FIRST time

I'm working on organizing my spellbinder dies. My label maker ran out of tape. I'm not sure where I'm going to put my second binder (they are only 1" binders)....plus the three magnetic books.

I think I need a BIG scoop shovel

Hey...I decorated on Saturday. Just finished up the lights on the stairs today...had to buy a new strand. No tree yet. We always get a live one...so Ken says I have to wait until next weekend. Although yesterda, on the way home from church, we passed a car with a tree on its roof. I pointed out "THEY got a tree today!!" haha

Love my newly painted house...with the chandelier...and the Christmas decorations!

Good for you! I always wait until my honey puts up the tree. We have an artificial - was pre-lit when I bought it, but those lights don't last at all... I blame DH for letting the boxed tree bounce down the basement stairs after Christmas. LOL

Some years the tree never got any ornaments on it - everyone was too lazy. Still looks good in lights, though.

I had planned on starting my decorating today...somehow, after working out, then exercising the dog, it never got done before I had to leave for oldest Kiddo's first b-ball game of the season (an hour away!)...oh well! There is always tomorrow!!

Of course, that same kiddo, just remembered he has to make up a DNA model by Friday...and has late practice tomorrow, a game on Wed, another game Thurs....grrrrrr I see a couple of late nights in my future helping kiddo get figure stuff out!

(I will give the kid a itty bitty little excuse...He was running ragged before the Thanksgiving break trying to get ahead in some of his homework so he could go on the mission trip to Az....and he got back late Tues night....sooooo, he totally forgot about the project and since I never knew about it, I couldn't nag!)

I can't believe that I'm considering it!! REALLY don't have time, but then again, nothing to lose to try!!

Have a couple of ideas floating in my head for the Spellbinder's contest...just need to get my rear into a different gear, get my cleaning and decorating done so that I can sit down and focus on that!!

I don't generally bake Christmas cookies, but I'll check and see what kind of recipes I have.

Well, they are not asking for much (I think that means they have everything they could want already! HA!)

Oldest wants a drum set for his brother. G is very much into learning the bass and electric guitar (he is teaching himself). He thinks his brother would be good on drums and wants him to be able to perform with various school bands.

Youngest just wants Air Soft ammo and some Xbox games. The drums were mentioned too, but I think he might be hedging his bets that if his brother asks for it, he won't have too!!

Previous years they have reguested more Air Soft guns, iPods/touches, the guitars/amps, and of course, the never ending Xbox games! Small digital camera have been on the list, but now they just use their phones or iTouch for that.

They also enjoy the DVD's of Mythbusters, Dirty jobs, Alf (remember that show?!!) and the original Three Stooges that they got last year.

iTune cards, Game Stop cards are always a hit too. They are at a difficult age as they don't "play" with toys and we already have lots of family games.

So...yes, Airsoft guns is what my son wants. A friend of mine has told me several times that any gun under $100 is cheap and will break right away. Is that true? Is there a website you recommend? or store? or brand?

I just asked DH about the guns...he agrees that anything under $100 is "junk". States that they are mostly plastic and break easily.

As far an online store or brand, he has no suggestions. There is a local paintball/airsoft store here and he goes off their recommendations within what he is willing to spend. I will admit that they have a couple of guns that were very pricey, but that was their gift (along with some ammo).

When they first start getting the guns, we bought some from Sport Chalet and yes, they were under $100. And yes, they broke quickly. I think they still have a couple of them, but they are rarely used, as they jam quickly.

Oldest kiddo has his Christmas music concert tonight. I'm soo ready to just call it a night! LOL! It wouldn't be so bad, but I've heard this same music several times this past weekend already (they performed for a church service, than a fundraiser at B&N for a couple of hours)....not to mention hearing the same program a few other times earlier in the school year.

It will be a welcomed change when they begin learning new music after the holidays!!
