Tomorrow night is my SU hostess club. My turn to be hostess. We meet at demo's house, but I have to bring the treats. So I just made brownies.

Yes, they are still wearing a couple of the sweatshirts. DS2 is in the size 10 jeans ( for length) and the 12's are waiting for him as DS1 seemed to grow overnight, skipped the 10's, wore the 12's for a few weeks before stretching even more! Tall, skinny kids.

We have a new Publix that opened just across the state line. I had the nicest Valentine's surprise there this evening! There's a brand of whipped cream cheese I grew up eating on bagels in NY--Breakstone Temp-Tee. They carry it!!!

Now we just need decent bagels... LOL!

I haven't sent you the 14s yet, have I?

YDS is wearing 16s this year. He's finally grown enough that his pants size is a higher number than his age!

Pumpernickel. The only place I can find them is at Noah's Bagels if I get there before noon. Not that I get there very often. But every now and then.

When we moved here from south Florida, we had been getting pumpernickel bagels all the time. Not just fresh - a bagel shop in every block, it seemed - but even Lender's frozen. Move out here, NOBODY carries any pumpernickel bagels. Nada. Nuthin. DS really missed them.

Did I mention there were donuts in the Toyota waiting room? I didn't even look at them.

Holy cow.

In the absence of a decent NY bagel, TempTee cream cheese on a Publix sourdough english muffin is probably as close to heaven as you can get. How did I live here for 24 years without this supermarket? No wonder everyone in FL loves them so much. Seriously. I'm plotzing from pure joy.

I wonder if they'll start selling bialys if we buy enough TempTee...

Best Valentine's Day, pet, hubby, craft video if you need a laugh/lift.

Cleaning up has its advantages--I found the $50 REI gift certificate BFF and her husband gave me for my 50th birthday a year and a half ago!

An order of my favorite terrifyingly expensive merino wool zox is on its way--they were having their winter outlet sale so what a perfect day to find my long-lost gift!

Rainsong, the dogs are awesome!

Molly's the lapdog in our family... considering that Sonny outweighs her by 40lbs or so that's probably a good thing.

I love it when it gets cold, though, and I wake up in the morning with all 3 of them snuggled up on the bed with me. I know it's getting chilly when Molly snuggles up against my tummy and leaves the pillow next to my head for Allie bean. Sonny just mashes up against me full length like a big bear.

OK off to super Target since my paycheck's in... then more cleaning, then stamping with Debbie. This taking time off and staying home to work on the house thing is kind of fun! And way cheaper than flying to parents (plus rental car) or sister's.

Just got back from monthly big provisioning run. The Ghirardelli & M&Ms were 30% off, boxed Russell Stover 50% off. One bag/box of each, the rest gets weighed, measured into little snack bags and parceled out 3x/week with my work lunches. I've realized that if, in addition to sticking to my budget, I limit eating lunch with work friends out to 3x/month AND stay out of the vending machines (my chocolate stash will save me about $10 by weight, limiting to 3x/week will help with watching calories), I'm borderline on affording my ticket to Anchorage, which I'd buy in Sept. A couple of Silpada shows will push me over, if Molly gets worse I won't be going.

I've done well with bringing lunch the last 6 weeks and I'm under my budget so I did splurge on $28 of lucite organizers for the bathroom. I'm going to move the old wicker shelves in my bath to the guest bath and use the new organizers to open things up a bit on my counter.

Office is getting there just taking longer than I'd hoped partly due to noodling here and napping. Need to get busier tomorrow!

Wonderful!

I get emails from Think Geek and today the Star Trek bathrobes were on sale (again). DD got one for DH for Christmas and DS REALLY wanted one, but I wasn't going to pay full price. So today one got sent to DS in Ohio. He'll be SO happy.

You know, I'd never heard of a bialy until I moved to south Florida.

And I loved one of the restaurants there - a bagel shop - with a decor that included large writing on the wall, that old question, If a seagull flies over the sea, what flies over the bay?

So I've been putzing around, chatting (IMing) with BFF back east, and doing nothing.

She sent me a picture of her cards and flowers.
One card said, on the front,
Valentine's Day, a day to celebrate the unholy alliance between overpriced plant life and saturated fats.
Inside: But the heart wants what the heart wants.

lol

Was really tired last night. Was dragging after work -- went straight to SU hostess club. Cards were so-so which didn't help pump me up. Honestly when the club ends, I don't know if I will re-join. I am running out of stuff to buy.

I know the feeling.

I love SU and their stuff has remained very much the core of my cardmaking (and now a bit of scrapping) tools and toys. And every few years they come out with something new that really nudges me in a new direction, like the Western/Boho stuff they did a few years ago and the Vintage stuff they're doing now. Although at the same time the Western stuff really complemented the cactus stamps I'd collected for years before I even started stamping, and the Vintage stuff really pulled together with some old fashioned map images and Tim Holtz stuff I'd picked up here and there over the years, and sent me off in a whole new direction with it. I LOVE when they hit on something like that, where they take something I'd messed around with a bit but had no idea how to pull together, and come up with some wonderful elements that somehow give everything a fresh look and sharper focus. I was elated to see seashells again in current calendar and about had to smoke a cigarette and sigh languidly and contentedly after I saw the lobster set (duh). When they hit on something like that it's really inspiring and soooo much fun!!!!

But they they go and do stuff like their 45th $35 2-step flower set in a row. Um... just how many of those do I need? I still haven't gotten over the peony. Plus my whole suspicion that it's a plot to make 10,000 demos buy it to stay current makes me very cranky about yet ANOTHER one.

On the other hand for all that, I still managed to spend over $300 in the past year or so doing those scrapbooks--four of which aren't even done yet. A good bit of that was buying the books themselves--and Karen and Wrose, I still haven't used up all the embellishments I bought when I visited you! I don't feel too bad about that because for 5 pretty big presents (2 graduations, brother's 50th birthday, Christmas for Mom and sister) that averages out to a pretty reasonable cost, and obviously I've done a lot with shell sets for the beach-y ones, and on books for Mom and sister, the plane from Plane and Simple and all the vintage stuff is just perfect if your grandfather was a pilot in the 20s and 30s--and I found Mom's stash of lace from when she was a lingerie designer in the basement at their house, and Mom was elated to have me use it on the books! And I've kind of branched out into the mini-album thank you cards, too, which is what nudged me to start scrapping.

But yeah... after you've collected x amount of stuff, it's hard to keep getting excited about a newer version of something you've already gotten excited about 3 times before. If none of the new stuff grabs you, spending the money seems pointless.

Ack, that was quite a rant!

Marge, if it makes you feel any better, Molly and Sonny DIDN'T wake me up at 6:30am like they usually do. I slept straight through till amost 9 which is pretty unheard-of for me.

Of course Molly dealt with it by peeing on my bedroom carpet. Sigh...

I guess they must have thought I needed the sleep because in 9 years with Molly I think that's maybe the second time she's ever done that. Usually if she doesn't start whimpering to get me up, or if she does and I sleep through it, Sonny will jump on the bed and stick his wet nose in my ear.

Well we got Steve's federal and state(s) taxes done. He had to file in 3 states because of his work assignments (IL, VA, CA).

He "drove", I consulted over his shoulder. Took us about 3 hours total. He was able to use 1040A -- he has a bit of dividends and capital gains but from his Vanguard account and he didn't have to file Schedules B or D.

I think next year he'll be able to do it on his own.

Your SU rant pretty much sums up how I feel.

Love their quality product, love their designs and cardstock. But after (10?) years I have everything, or "similar" to everything and 70% of what I have doesn't get used. And I stamp quite a bit!!!

Have so darn much of it. So when designs get recycled it gets really hard to find something fresh to buy -- our hostess club commitment is only $25/month but sometimes I resort to dimensionals, white card stock, envelopes -- something practical because, well just because.

The spring mini had some nice stuff but I bought what I wanted to get to my $50 SAB order in January. So last night was scratching my head. And I forced myself to $50 again but then got irritated with myself because there was not one free SAB set/item that I really even wanted. I went with the clear Victorian buttons. Which are much too bumpy to mail.
