I would love to get another dog asap. Gotta get a few things done around here first. Otherwise, I'd already have one.

Wonder which movie Marge saw??
I saw the 1947 one with Loretta Young. I think she won an Oscar?

Yes Marge!!! She won!

Her co-star, Charles Bickford, was nominated but didn't win.

Well he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, not Best Actor. (to clarify)

On the bright side, you can totally pull it off!

Happy birthday ODS!

I'd worked with a lot of the kids before so it went pretty well for the most part.

I got a big hug from Hunter Girl during lunch.

The K groups this morning had a book about water to read through and talk about the opposites in it (cold/hot, deep/shallow, rough/calm). The last page showed a boy running through a sprinkler, and I mentioned that my boys used to like to do that when they were younger. So of course the kids wanted to know how old my boys were. I told them and they were like "WOW"... I guess 14 and 17 seemed old to them! Ha ha ha.
Oh Patricia! That sounds like such a sweet day!

It's funny how kids going 'wow' will hit you through life. I remember saying to my parents in that voice 'wow... you were alive during WWII.' Then when I was in my 20s a high school volunteer on the nonprofit I did work for said to me in that exact same voice 'wow... you were alive when men landed on the moon.' That was such a GACK moment.

I had lunch with a friend of mine at work this week and we were laughing that we still think the guy working the taco line was soooo cute, even if we know it would be totally inappropriate to do anything about it. Of course that turned into a conversation about how men our age don't seem to have remotely the same sense of restraint about it... but that's a different conversation altogether, LOL.

It's just so cool how little kids are so eternally the same--so much the same sense of wonder and curiosity, and sense of awe at what older people and kids get to do. I love that. It must have been a great day!

One of the other K teachers had a group of 5 or 6 kids read something from a script. Those were the only K students who participated in the fair that year. So it was a pretty big thing that YDS and the girl memorized their piece to present it.

So while I was reading, I got all verklempt remembering how adorable YDS and the girl were performing it. *sniffle* I am such a sentimental sap.

One thing I noticed later, after the students had left - the book wasn't American! I was looking at the cover and saw that there was no period at the end of "Mrs." I looked through the story again and saw that was consistent throughout the story. So I looked at the publisher's info and sure enough, the book was originally published in New Zealand. I thought that was pretty interesting.
Awwww... what a wonderful thing to remember! Cool about the book, too!

He did look happy! Very sweet, exuberant little guy. I loved the sheepdog who came in 2nd too--herd he had quite a Cinderella story, coming out of nowhere the way he did.

Same issue with Catholicism on my end.

Very interesting news about the Pope. It's so weird to me how religion has so much beauty in what it teaches, and such a strong hope of teaching us to live with humility and compassion, yet people still turn it into an instrument of power over others, infighting and self-righteousness.

I guess those are the two sides of us as human beings trying to fight our nature in religion just as much as everything else.

But yeah... the puppet man and Elmo. Same battle, different arena where so much is hopeful, innocent and wonderful.

He fell twice on the stairs and again at the upstairs landing. I was able to drag him into the bedroom on a throw rug and roll him onto the bed. That sounds horrible, doesn't it? Believe me, I TRIED like mad to get him to sleep on the sofa but he didn't want any part of it and he's quite, quite stubborn.

The last seizure had had was 22 days before this one. Most days he's up and doing stuff, like over the weekend, he was hanging drywall. Then, someone tosses a monkey wrench into the works and reminds us just how ill he is.

This is a scary, horrible disease.

Oh, and why am I "recovering?" Because my back was killing me on Monday and supporting a 180lb man to stand upright hurt. Plus, I had an awful time falling asleep that night and staying asleep. Every move he made, I was wide awake and scared to death.

But today, we're good.

Rainsong
Rainsong, my heart and thought and prayers are with both of you. That's so scary.

I think the people who are there when someone is so ill go through it every bit as much in different ways. When you love someone so much, seeing what they're up against is so hard, and having to stay strong and be there day in, day out--and just the practical matter of stairs and a 180lb person--those relentless practical issues, are hard too.

(((HUGS))) to you both. Every word makes it so clear just how much you love him, and just how much strength you've put into being there for him and being there with him.

I think sometimes being up against something that big makes people all the more stubborn about holding on to as much of normal as they can.

I think sometimes it's hard for them to realize how hard that can be for the people around them given the logistics.

Yeah it was fine. In fact, I left here about 1:40 and was home by 2:15.

Not sure when I get results, but I'm not expecting anything.

Got the car checked, six month checkup. Like 905 miles. The guy said Wow, you don't drive much. ha ha ha

Stopped at the mall on the way home, had a couple $10 JCP coupons. Found a nice short-sleeved blue sweater. Sort of turquoise, that wonderful color. Got that for free, it was $20. Got some underwear too, 25% off (Jockey for Her).

They'd estimated the car at 90 minutes or so but came to get me in just under an hour! Nice.

And it's mid sixties here and gorgeous.

DS2 is wearing the rocket jammies that DS1 used to be able to wear. And they both still sport the coats-DS2 in orange and DS1 in the red/blue.

It's just good knowing that the clothes still had that much good use left in them and that your (you and V's) families are benefiting from it.

ERK, I hope the clothes I've sent your boys are holding up as well.

Just to make you feel better--many years ago, my youngest asked me if I rode to school in a horse and wagon.

Who knows. I'm pretty sure every resume I've sent in the last few weeks goes into a black hole.
