I run 15-20 miles per week and haven't lost a drop since before Christmas. I also eat clean 75% of the time. Its exhausting to know I am already doing so much. I really don't have time to exercise anymore. I barely have time get it all in now. *sigh*

DS is still looking. He is hoping to find something other than just working retail, and so far is able to wait, but can't do that forever. Sigh.

We have an LG high efficiency top loader and matching dryer; we bought them a little over 2 years ago. The dryer has a steam option that I wasn't terribly impressed with, so if you can get one that doesn't have that option, you're not missing much. I love that there is no tall agitator in the washer, so you can literally just dump your laundry basket over into the washer and not have to arrange the clothes around the agitator. Both machines are pretty quiet while they are running. Instead of irritating buzzers, they play a little song when they are done with a load.

DH wanted a front loader, but I'd heard too many complaints about them developing a nasty smell that I was reluctant to get one. I don't think a front loader would fit well in our laundry room anyway. (The laundry room door would open right into where the washer would open.) So I was happy to find a HE top loader. And we happened to get a crazy good deal on them.

PH, where did you buy your washer/dryer? I'm hoping to get a good deal and planning to hold out until I can get a good price unless my current one just totally bites the dust.

The guy at Sears said the door on a front loader needs to remain open when not in use. I am really thinking that isn't an option for me. The laundry room is between the main house and the addition, so is constantly having someone walk through it. I'm afraid leaving the door open is a safety hazard for the kids. Thoughts, ERK?

DH takes DS1 to his basketball practices bc he is assitant coaching. DS2 likes to go along. DD is at cheerleading practice. DH is picking her up on his way home from DS1's basketball practice. I'm home on a Monday night with just the two little ladies. Feels super weird!

I don't tend to leave the door open as the cat is our safety hazard. I do sometimes run a load of towels and add vinegar to stop them smelling so maybe that helps the machine but honestly it's never been an issue. It could also make a difference because it is so dry here so there is no humidity to start with.

That could be it too, ERK. We have extreme humidity in summer, without a doubt.

Amber, we bought our appliances at Best Buy.

We also bought a fridge at the same time. So we paid for them to deliver and set up the new appliances and haul away the old washer and dryer. We kept the old fridge, which we still use now instead of our chest-style deep freezer. The only complaint I had about their service was the guy reversed the hot and cold water lines to the washer. But it only took us a load or two to figure that out, and DH was able to swap them.

eta: We were just lucky to happen to find the good deal on them when our washer died!

Amber, if you're interested, here are a few SCS threads from the last couple years about washers/dryers:

Samsung Front Loading W/D

Appliance Recommendations?

new washing machine

do front load washing machines walk?

See, that's crazy, if the machine "needs" that, then there's something wrong. In my opinion.

My laundry room is between the family room and the garage. The washer and dryer are against the outside wall, and there's a path, and that's it. There is NO WAY I could leave the door open. I keep the door to the laundry room closed, it opens into the room, and would open into that open washer door every time we went to go out. Not gonna happen.

I don't have one yet, when mine died, I got one of the remaining agitator models a couple years ago. I would love to get one, but they have to fix these problems first.

ERK, we also have low humidity but still.... I will also look for a top loader when I need a new one.

There is a product on the market that you put in the washer to clean the smell out. Uh if your washer is designed so that water pools and makes a smell it's misdesigned.

I have a cheap cheap washer and dryer. The ones we had before were also cheap cheap but a gift from my BIL. The dryer we replaced this last year early and the washer late last year. We got the others in 2002 or 3.

My niece is very into My Little Pony at the moment. She and several of her high school friends watch it. I tried to watch with her but lasted about 7 min. But I do now know who Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash are.
