My friends father passed away this morning without getting to meet his granddaughter. So very sad.

Oh ERK that's so sad. Maybe it's the cosmos way to make room for a new life to blossom?

Thanks ERK. It was actually a lovely day. A neighbor took the kids to play after the service so I had a chance to spend the afternoon with my friends and their family and a few other friends at the house afterwards. The service was just beautiful--a lovely recollection of a very gentle and generous, wonderfully funny and kind man's life. I hadn't realized my friend's Dad had worked in prison ministry for years. For all that terrible sense of loss, just being around my friend's family made me realize how much of his kindness will always flower in all those people he loved, and who loved him. I felt so lucky to have had the chance to get to know him over the years.

The two ministers who performed the service spoke so beautifully not only about Frank's life and how much he loved his family and friends, but that depth of living with humility, appreciation and a profound sense of service to others, and about how all of life is a process of becoming and the role we play in helping one another along that path--as parents, brothers and sisters, friends and sometimes even acquaintances. I can't think of a warmer way to honor someone who approached life with a very quiet and profound compassion.

Yikes, Rainsong. That really sucks.

And of course everything is all HER fault I'm sure. (((HUGS))) to your daughter, and to you too. Divorce, even when necessary, still sucks like a Dyson animal.

VERY glad the women will be ok but holy cow, they must be jumpier than Sonny when I took him in to get tutored.

I have to admit every time the NRA says we need to arm more people to keep us safer, I want to say why don't you idiots talk about building and maintaining skills for the people who already are armed. If people who are that highly trained can make a mistake like that in a very dire crisis, how many more bystanders or people who are driving the wrong truck would get hurt if people who don't maintain their equipment let alone their skills have an open license to fire at anyone?

Just sayin'.

Opinionated, Grumpy Rainsong needs sleep!
Sort of reminds me of modern art. I get wanting to be different, but avant garde for the sake of avant garde does not equal better art. Same with fingernails.

Although I did see someone who got a teeny checkerboard on her nails in turquoise and lime and that did look pretty cool.

And I'd crease paper and transfer nail color to the cardstock. So I pretty much stopped. And my hands are frequently so messed up in winter from the eczema, there's no point highlighting that.
I just got a pedicure for the wedding... Painted fingernails myself with a pale transparent pink. I keep mine short like you and RS.

I do have fun with toenail polish but I gave up on pedicures ages ago. Not worth it given how much time my feet spend in the water during kayaking season. I have to admit I like strange colors for toes--mushroom taupe, periwinkle, kind of a marina mist color, the occasional turquoise...

V and ERK have definitely gotten my heels in better shape though. I have those fuzzy acrylic spa socks and I sleep with stuff slathered on my heels now. I hope they do ok when feet go back in the water!

Satin Feet FTW!!!

Well, off to call Mom and Stepdad to see how they're doing in the snow. Mom said yesterday they have giant white mushrooms in the yard where all the rocks are and on the deck where the patio furniture used to be. Then off to finish my taxes.

Giant white mushrooms. I love that image.

Oh and PH, do you have any of that black glittery nail polish left? That would be fun on toes!

Please, please do Karen. My heart goes out to her and to all her family. It sounds as though her Dad fought so hard to stay.

Rainsong, if you see this do you think you could ask Mr Rainsong a question about our dishwasher? We have a 5.5 year old Kenmore. It was cleaning very badly so we unscrewed all the jets, took the filter out as far as we could ( it doesn't just lift out) and got some interesting things out of there. It went back together fine and the bottom is now cleaning properly but things on the top shelf are still dirty. Would he have any suggestions what we need to do next. Please and thank you.

So maybe before our road trip we should treat ourselves to a pedi at the little nail place by me as it will still be warm enough for sandals.

I've taken Buffalo Mary there before we caught our plane for France; French Friend Christiane last Christmas (it was her very first pedicure ever), Stampscapes Dutch lady Mirjam. And now I could take a muddy otter!
