But even if it doesn't flake off, doesn't its mere existence post a thread? What if a corner gets torn off?

If the glitter doesn't come off the card, it's acceptable, but I'd still use it sparingly.

That's why Stickles are OK - the glitter is incorporated into the glue.

I have some glitter paint that I've used a few times. (Actually, I should make sure it hasn't all dried up by now.) I tested it out by painting it on several scraps of cardstock, and then cut into it and tore it and tried my best to destroy it, lol. It didn't flake. But because it's paint it isn't quite as convenient to use.

Now they have pills that integrate flea and heartworm protection. I was using an older heartworm pill plus the stuff you rub between their shoulders for fleas.

I'm guessing the vet won't let me have one big enough to use on humans, LOL...

Oh heck, it's not even an approach, it's just how I am! I've been on the other end of the phone, so it's a nice surprise to get a friendly sounding voice.

Yes, you very much are.

Having worked in customer service, I can't even begin to tell you how much we appreciated folks who took your approach: work together to resolve the issue rather than take it out on a rep who had no role whatsoever in creating the problem,

If more people approached it the way you do, people would line up around the block for customer service jobs. Although I'm sure it helps to have someone just as committed to resolving the issue and determined to stay courteous on the other end when you call in.

Vet just called with Molly's bloodwork results. All of Molly's bloodwork and lab tests came back normal. Her triglycerides are a little high but not high enough for serious concern or link to seizures. If she did have canine meningitis (which we've all but ruled out given her activity level and no pain around her head or neck), it's all but impossible that the numbers would look that good or that she'd be so active 4 months down the road, so that's one more thing we can eliminate. Vet doesn't think old Interceptor pill would have caused seizures to return, but the timing around her starting on Trifexis and their returning when I gave her Interceptor again is too coincidental for him to feel ready to eliminate this as a possibility.

Vet did put her on antibiotic for the lost tooth. Next step will be to keep Molly off any meds (other than antibiotic) for the next two months. If seizures let up again, so long as Allie and Sonny stay on heartworm meds, it's no risk to them, but a roll of the dice for Molly to stop taking them. If the seizures continue, we'll start her on anticonvulsants at that point and the focus will be on treating any symptoms and keeping her comfortable.

The good news is, other than the seizures, she's in great shape. Fingers crossed that it's the heartworm stuff and keeping her off it resolves things. Vet said if we keep her off heartworm stuff, I might want to get her tested twice a year instead of just once as treating sooner is easier on the patient and we'd know the treatment would result in seizures as a side effect. We still don't know the cause, but given the situation the results are as good as possible.

Spent time today prepping for a paper-casting "event" that I'm having next Saturday. Use old white cardstock scraps, reduce to pulp and use molds.

Also started embroidering (counted cross stitch) a rose patterned bookmark. It's turning out pretty.

We had a little bit of snow this afternoon! Just enough to look pretty while it was coming down. It didn't last long enough to accumulate.

All-District Band was today. The students were supposed to practice yesterday during school hours, but because nearly all the schools in the district were either closed or had delayed openings due to the weather early yesterday morning, that practice was cancelled. So the students and directors had about 5.5 hours today to practice and prepare for the concert this afternoon.

YDS made it into the middle school band on B-flat clarinet. The middle schoolers sounded a little rough a few times, but overall they did a really good job.

The high schoolers are divided into the symphonic ("top") band and the concert band. ODS auditioned on both B-flat clarinet and alto clarinet. He made something like 11th chair SB on B-flat, and was 2nd chair alto. However, the girl who made 1st chair alto also made 1st chair E-flat clarinet, and she decided to play that - so that made ODS 1st chair alto! He played alto for the concert so that he could be eligible to audition for All-State Band later this month. Because the original 1st chair played E-flat for the concert, she gave up her eligibility to audition for State on alto. So that potentially helps ODS in getting selected for All-State by eliminating her from his competition in auditioning. Heh heh heh

Anyway, the symphonic band today was incredible for how short a practice time they had. Their guest conductor was the director of JMU's Marching Royal Dukes. So ODS enjoyed the chance to work with him. ODS talked with him a little about how he's interested in applying to JMU and their music program... not in a schmoosy sucking up way, but just to say "hi, I'm interested". I'm glad he was proactive in doing that without me needing to nudge him.

Sounds like a great day for both DSs! And cool that ODS got to talk to JMU director! Congrats to both YDS and ODS on their new positions!

Today would have been Dad's 91st birthday. I know he'd be SO happy to know that there are still students who love music enough to put the work into joining the not only their school band, but going out for district and statewide bands. That love of music makes the world a much more beautiful, and at times even harmonious place.

I was getting ready to snuffle, but then I got to your pun at the end.

That's one of the things I love most about band. It's like the one director said last week - the kids are all working together with the common goal of making beautiful music.

The director today gave the students, IMO, a very high compliment. He said that the first song they played is one that he likes to give the JMU ensemble students as a concert piece, but that they get about two months to practice and prepare it before presenting it in concert. He said something like, "I'm not trying to discredit the JMU program, but that shows you just how good THESE students are" and gestured behind him.

Well the Sharks finally lost a game. They are now 7-1. It was tied, they had overtime, and lost in the shootout.

That's really lovely, PH. And hearing about the kids snowed in at the hotel last week was so cool. I loved the way they really jumped into the time together to play. That kind of love for music is a lifelong gift. I'd love to tell the DSs sometime about Dad's friends, and our growing up going to all those musical evenings at the beach--people showed up and played everything from classical to folk. It was pretty amazing the night we had one at our house. I was maybe 9 or 10 but I remember my sister and I getting into our bunk beds at some unreasonably late hour for us (10 or 11) and falling asleep to a house full of piano, violins, guitars and flutes and all the grownups laughing and talking and then just falling silent when the music started up again.

One of my friends and I talked so long last night that I ran out the battery on my cell! I called her back on the land line and we both cracked up!

We have an etiquette question: if someone puts out invitations for parties regularly using only social media (evites, facebook) where everyone attending can see your response, is it rude of the invitee to respond by e-mail so that their response isn't broadcast to the world? After doing this, each of us was told to respond ONLY using the method of invitation to the host can 'keep a count' of how many people are coming but neither one of us feels comfortable, given the regularity of the invitations, broadcasting our social plans to 25-40 other people several times a month.

I get that privacy is becoming an antiquated concept but I kind of feel as though it should be my choice to control what's out there, not produce it on demand for someone else's convenience. It's not that I even care if the other 40 people know what I'm doing since I know most of them, and it's not like I never post stuff on t3h int4rw3bz. I guess for me it's just the principle of someone demanding that I participate, vs choosing when, where and what I want to share.

I think the host should be happy they even got an RSVP -- whether by email or the evite.

So many people don't bother to RSVP anymore.

So keep emailing, I agree with you. Or, just respond "No" without giving any reason.

Down .6 at WW today. I thought I was going to be up.

In a couple hours going to play badminton at Downer's Grove park district with Jenny and Leona. This should be very comical. I have not played badminton for 43 years. Yikes!

Badminton!!! Oh fun!

We used to play all the time when we were 10 or 11 so... about 40 years here too. Yikes. Where does the time go?

Thanks for the backup on the invites. I'm starting to feel like it's kind of a control issue.

i rARELY respond to evite stuff - i always email my response (if i'm going to give one - sometimes i don't... )

like marge said - they should be happy they're getting a reply...

it's definitely a control thing.

I've played periodically as an adult. Grew up playing in the street, no net, but no traffic. Loved it. Got a set out here, discovered there is NEVER no wind in the park.

If there's a maybe option, click that. They really should provide a private response. I think the hope is, everyone else will see how many others are dying to go and feel compelled also. But yeah you don't HAVE to RSVP. If you mentioned it to the person and they STILL insisted, then they are a jerk.
