Glad to hear she's doing so well. I've been thinking of you all. But the ear drops... yikes.

Oh, and Viggo Mortensen, Scott Bakula, Tommy Lee Jones and Dustin Hoffman. Although from what I've read, Tommy Lee Jones and I would probably have some, um, spirited political discussions. Actually I really like Tom Selleck these days too. He did nothing for me as Magnum but I really like him in whatever new show that is that they have ads for.
I'd definitely take a kind, warm, smart and financially grown up dude with a great sense of humor and no beard over an arse hat with a beard though. I like beards but I can live happily without one if the guy is a smart, funny, decent human.

Ten years younger than 19 would be scary... tee hee!

hi
another day spent mostly in bed. I got up with a terrible cough, wrenched my back, lost my voice. Around lunch time DH came home to deal with kids and do school pick up and work from home. He's awesome.
I have a little bit of a voice right now so I'm hoping to feel well enough to work tomorrow night.

Molly had an awful seizure last night. Her teeth chattered so hard she knocked one out. She was really scared afterwards, that hasn't happened since the first one.
Calling the vet this morning. I think it's time for her to start on meds.
I guess it wasn't just the flea meds--this was her third one this month. Getting more frequent is not a good sign, but I'll take her in and we'll do what we can.

Can I ask you all to think good thoughts for my friend ( the kids former 1st grade teacher). She's expecting her first baby on 14th Feb and we're all hoping the doctor will induce her in the next couple of days as her father went in to hospice today and is not expected to live until her due date.

Oh Karen how sad. She and her father--and her new baby--will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, Molly was just fine when I got home tonight. We're going to the vet on Thursday--as it's not an emergency, I took the first available with vet who's a family friend. In between seizures she's just fine--as the Emergency vet said the first night, if what I'd described didn't match the description of a grand mal seizure, she would have said Molly is perfectly healthy. I expect they'd still say that--she gets her walks in, though we're down to half a mile and still runs around like a crack puppy.
When I talked to our friend the vet in Dec he said there were three possibilities: flea med related and it will go away, late-onset epilepsy with no known cause (idiopathic? I think that's what he said) or it's a brain tumor, which are generally very treatment-resistant in dogs. Given that seizures are not going away, we're down to two possibilities. Since I can't afford the $2500 diagnostic MRI, he said if they don't stop, we'll treat the symptoms with phenabarbitol (?), which is basically a sedative, if that doesn't help we'll move on to stronger drugs. He said that even if I could afford chemo for Molly ($5-12k generally, I couldn't even afford the MRI right now), he'd still recommend keeping her comfortable rather than putting her through it since it's so rough on dogs and they don't understand why it's happening. I agree with him that if there were a good chance of it working, it would be a much, much harder decision. I held off on the meds since they make the dogs lethargic and gain lots of weight. Molly's always been so active and happy. I didn't want to slow her down if it was something temporary.
So either way the best treatment is the same thing. I agree with the vet. I will keep her as happy, comfortable and healthy as possible for as long as possible. I'll have some laundry to do now and again, but at least we have that tile floor we put in for Kelly. I guess either way we'll take it one day at a time and I'll do whatever I can for her and love her and cherish every day. I can't really stand to think past that right now. It won't help Molly--or Sonny or Allie bean--if I go to pieces so one day at a time for now.
Thank you all so much for thinking of her. She's the funniest, sweetest dog in the world. I'm pulling for the scenario where I get to do lots of laundry if this happens at night for a long long time, and hoping that any of you who have invested in carpet cleaning products see a very healthy return on your investment.

Hugs to Molly, yes, I can't see spending all that, no matter what, unless you're rolling in dough. Even then, I'd be thinking, give it to charity. I don't know, I don't get spending that much on a pet and you know how much I love my animals. Then they push the pet insurance so it'll cost less. Um..... okay we have people that need to be insured.... sorry.
Anyway yeah I agree, keep Molly comfortable, tell her we all love her. Will this affect your travel plans at all?

Jane I'm glad you posted. I'd been thinking of you gals all day. I think keeping her happy and healthy around the seizures is a good plan. Is there anything the vet can help you with as far as reacting to the seizure when it's happening to help her come out of it more calmly?

Awww... I will. I think she can feel the love. I can definitely feel it.
I have no idea at the moment about travel--if the meds work and Molly does well, it shouldn't affect my plans. But next trip isn't till Labor Day weekend, so I probably have till June or July to see how things go. I may hop a cheap flight and go see Mom around her birthday but other than that, nothing other than a weekend to visit friends here and there. Molly and Sonny are invited to my friend Mary's in the mountains in a couple of weeks (Sonny and Mary's dog Bentley are BFFs) and they always come with me to Debbie's. Debbie's husband is babysitting all the dogs (brave man!) the weekend of our stamping retreat in March.
Once we got our raise news last week things were looking bleak for Anchorage in Dec even before this. Sooooo... fingers crossed and one foot in front of the other for now.

Yes, he already told me, prop her body on a pillow if I can with head below her so if she throws up she won't choke. Other than that just stroke her back and ride it out with her. He said not to restrain her as that stands a greater chance of hurting her. I've also kept a journal of how long they last and how quickly she bounces back.
We were both pretty scared last night but this evening I'd have had no idea anything had gone wrong if I didn't know. She's her usual happy crack puppy self, sleeping just past my desk since I sat down to say hey.

Yay for Wrose's DS's new wheels and for Amber's family's new wheels.
Yay for Marge and Jane losing weight.
Marge, it looks like your crepes and tea party was a success. The roses you had on the table are gorgeous.
I prefer high school and college football to pro football. Something about those huge salaries is somewhat of a turnoff for me... can't imagine what. But I'll still watch the Super Bowl, as much for the game as for the commercials.
I'm glad Cinco is doing well following her surgery. Here's hoping for no more ear infections and an improvement in her speach. (typo on purpose )
I will have to agree to disagree with Amber on basketball.
I will have to agree to disagree with Jane regarding men with beards. DH will let one grow occasionally and it drives me nuts. And now that he's getting more grey hair, I think it makes him look older.
I hope Pippin is doing better.
Jane, big {HUGS} to you and Molly. Even though I'm not much of a "dog person", I'm glad I had the chance to meet Molly. She really is a sweet little girl.
V, I hope you're feeling better too. It was good to hear that your DH was helping you out.
It's our anniversary on Sunday - yay, Super Bowl. 12th so silk or linen. I'm stumped because other than silk shirts/ties which he doesn't wear, we're downsizing ready for the trip and trying not to spend money anyway. Any ideas??? Just a card?

Silk boxers.
Or, if you have a scrap of either linen or silk fabric, use that some way on the card.
I was wondering if the glitter flakes off of it when it's cut or rubbed.
eta: Wrose, did you use it on your Christmas cards? The one I got from you had a large snowflake and a lot of silver glitter. But it's put away so I can't go look at it right now.

Yes I used a lot of glimmer paper and bought more.
No it doesn't flake off. I punched it and everything and it's solid. Good stuff, sturdy.

PH the glitter paper is pricey, that's two sheets for 4.95. But that's why. It's awesome.
Yeah, it's something I wouldn't use a lot of anyway, so I'm still thinking about it.
I saw it on a card online and wanted to ask about it.
Occasionally some of the challenges I like to participate in call for glitter as a required element. I HATE loose glitter - like they say, it's the social disease of the crafting world, once you've caught it you can't get rid of it, LOL. Most of my challenge cards end up going to OWH, and I can't use any kind of glitter that flakes off on them. (Glitter can be detected by night vision goggles, and if glitter were to get on a soldier's uniform, it could put him/her at risk of harm.) So I've been making do with Stickles when necessary. But the glitter paper sounds like it would be a really good alternative option to Stickles.
