Awww... I hope Bbaby feels better.

Want me to take her for a nice plane ride?

Oooohhhh....some excitement! But probably a tad scary.

I may go take a nap in a minute. Mom and I had two fanatstic days of her printing photos and going over maps of Russia and the old Austro-Hungarian empire--I'd asked her to print some ahead for me so I could get straight to work but she didn't want to print them without knowing what size I wanted. So a bit slow getting started but we're on a roll.

Fortunately (beacause it's GREAT to see them!) sister and her family arrived last night. Unfortunately, with everyone in and out and wanting to play and use her computer, Mom's found it really hard to focus on scanning and printing the photos. So we're at a hard stop. I'm so sad that she blew up and started crying, because I really wanted this to be fun. But I think now that everyone's here, she doesn't want to be in her work room on the computer any more. Which is fine.

I guess we're back on hold till I can afford to come back up. Sigh. As problems go, this sure beats last time.

I wonder what snow karma gods will do to my friend up the street. His favorite thing to do when he knows I'm out of town is text me to say my house burned down, flooded, was broken into etc. I kind of blew up when he texted me in Alaska that the house was on fire. Despite that, he texted me this time that the house flooded--given that we got 5.5 inches of rain (which I did know about) not totally implausible. I was about to panic when I realized dog sitter would have long since let me know if that were really happening.

I guess the giant 'G' for gullible on my head is slowly fading... although I still don't think that's a funny thing to do to someone, and I think I have a pretty Monty-Python, irreverent morbid sense of humor.

Fortunately dog sitter confirmed my theory that while the pond is very very full and I have the usual whitewater stream running through my back yard, the house does not have floodwater anywhere near it.

Got out with my brother last night and met up with a recruiter. A little chat, hand over my resume and she says "OH! I have tons of things I could hook you up with! I could get you in about 20 things right now. You're resume shows longevity and fantastic customer service!" So there's that

Dayum.

I hope they DO something. I hate that. I used to carry a can of mace (my uncle got it from his job back then) when I walked the block to catch the bus back home. There was an evil dog down the street. I was ready for him then. But wow it's scary.

My worst wasn't nearly that bad, at least I was in my seat. Tray was down, had a food tray on the fold down thing, and a cup of coffee in the tray on a saucer. It was full. Well it was full before we hit the turbulence. I didn't have a lot of napkins so watched it slosh over the saucer and start filling up the plastic food tray.... I was getting worried but there wasn't anything I could do but watch the coffee slosh out of the cup.

DD got car fixed, we'll pay for that. She's gone to pick it up. The a/c also wasn't working when she hit Florida so that was part of it.

I stopped short of signing a ticket which would have forced a court appearance. Courtesy as a neighbor, probably misguided.

But 2 uniformed officers knocked on his door to warn him.

I would say that it's nice to not have to smell Pippin's poop etc. but when you have a DH, you're never far away from certain smells.....

And at our age - I get gas pretty easily myself. I just light more candles!

Your neighbor deserves to be strung up by his toenails for pulling that kind of crap with you.

That sounds promising! I hope it works in your favor, V.

So, Round 1 of Honors concert weekends is done now. The All-County middle and high school bands had their concerts today and I have to say I was really impressed with both groups. Normally they have 5 to 6 hours practice time on Friday, then another 6 hours of practice on Saturday, and then the concerts Saturday in the late afternoon. Because Thursday's weather caused a two-hour delay for school on Friday, they did not have the Friday practice this year. So they had about 6 hours today to get 4 or 5 songs concert ready. And they all sounded really great!

I have to admit I gave a mental fist bump to the director of the high school band. He had the students arranged so that first chair flute, first chair B-flat clarinet, first chair french horn, and first chair trumpet were the closest of their instruments to the front of the stage. I don't know all the students well enough to know where first chair trombone, tuba, and bass clarinet were. But with the alto sax players, he had the last chair closest to the front, and then the second to the last chair, and on toward the back of the stage. And because percussion switches around between mallets, snare, timpani, cymbals, wind chimes, and anything else needed, the "chair" notation is kind of irrelevant.

First chair flute was our band uniform chair mom's DD - a super sweet girl who was given a solo and she rocked it. First chair french horn was also from our school, and ODS was 2nd chair B-flat clarinet but we still had a good view of him. I don't really know the first chair trumpet player because he goes to another school, but he was drum major of his school's marching band, so I was able to recognize him after seeing him at band competitions.

First chair alto sax was the kid I've referred to as Lord Farquaad.

PH, music is such a huge part of your and your son's life. I'm looking forward to hearing college marching band stories in the future --

Congratulations to DS2, and glad to hear DS1 kind of accepts the balance between effort and result.

For all that I think it's a good idea to push for excellence when you feel passionate about something, there's something to be said for accepting that sometimes good enough is... well, good enough.

Life is such a constant challenge to make the right tradeoffs, and too many people assume the only acceptable choice is excellence and perfection in everything at any cost. I think if either DS (or both) figures out early that it's ok not to feel you have to kill yourself every single time, they're ahead of that curve. I think there's a HUGE difference between laziness and that insight. Not caring is one thing, but understanding where you DO care that much and focusing efforts there is something worth thinking about in life.

I'm so excited for DS2 as well! That's so cool! Did he um, go bananas?
