Okay that's a great email, E.

She's driven a lot of highways around here too, so should be okay, great to be aware of it all. We have a spot about two miles away that's got 6-8 lanes in each direction! Crazy huh.

Thank you so much!

Just got in from the retirement party. You plan an outdoor party in balmy Tucson in January.......and its 24 degrees...... there were plenty of patio heaters but the effects of any alcohol consumed were negated by the cold!!

OK. We're here if she needs a stop. We have a dog park just down the road, too. DH is snoring so I'd better get him to bed. good night!

Well, just a few days ago the deck still looked as snowy as the pictures Wrose and ERK shared.
Yoiks. That's pretty shady.

Although I imagine in the summer when you'd want to use the deck, that shade must be heaven!

One thing I love about house here is that back of the house faces pretty much due East. In the winter the morning sun warms the house, in summer I keep the blinds lowered in the morning to keep the house from solar heating, then enjoy the view in the evening when I come home.

I'm saving up to build a screen/sun porch behind the breakfast nook in (I hope) next 3-5 years. I'd love to afford one with the removable windows so I could pop them in during the winter and store them in garage for the summer and just enjoy the screens. ERK, I'm hoping when I do that I can replace sliding glass doors with something like what you and DH have as your back door.

It really is fun to hear stop by stop!

Who'd-a-thunk it growing up that we'd be sitting here chatting across the country and watching the pictures of a corgi from California playing in snow near LA, just about live as the pictures come in?

Was up at 6am (antsy dog).

Walked him and then watched movie "How Do You know" with Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson. Nice and light. Then it wasn't even barely 9:30 yet.

Showered and went out for errands -- bank, JoAnn's, Aldi's, and library. For the Ellen DeGeneres book, "Seriously...I'm Kidding" to read for next months book club.

Aldi's has 99 cent bologna packages - much cheaper than the other grocery stores. I wrap Shadow's joint & pain meds in them so that he swallows them. I stick up like 4 or 5 packages at a time. I also get cream cheese and milk there - much cheaper.

Leona's coming over in a few hours to play in the craft room.

Jane, I'll ask her if she wants to go on road trip with us. She had said once before she did, but we haven't really talked about it and I don't know if she was serious. Even if she says she does, I would consider it a "loose" commitment. Her schedules etc are shall we say, fluid.

i didn't want to insult her driving - but i know she just got her license not too long ago and that houston is unlike anyplace else. and if you're not expecting the craziness then it's scary. there are certain times i WILL NOT drive downtown. (her times should be good)

plus coming into an unknown area at night flusters me so i thought i'd give her a little heads' up...especiallly driving with a dog!

can't wait to see pippin...

you know he may get "lost".... possibly run out the front door... just saying...

Today is much faster, she's using cruise control and ERK's is more than halfway. Sunday will be long but again a cruise control kind of day.

Oh that's DS, DD has been driving for several years. Lots of mileage and distance. But yes it'll be dark so help is good. I was also wondering about a perimeter but you're right, on a Sunday night, no problem. And your football team has an away game so no issues there.

Heck she drove us around San Francisco when my brother visited a couple years ago! I've never even driven in SF!!! lol

It was for his former commander ( change of command was in October). At their house about 30 minutes north of here. Big back yard with tents, an ice sculpture, they'd got someone doing bar duty and lots of patio heaters! Thank goodness as it was cold. You could feel when there was a huge 5 degree temperature drop over an hour. Very fun though to see all these colonels and majors partying! And boy, does the Air Force party!!!

It won't be the whole ERK family, just me and the cat. The boys have a birthday party to go to so DH is dropping them off then going to the wood store. Sigh, more money.....

The back of our house faces northwest. Because of the earth's tilt, the deck isn't as shady in the summer. But there's still never direct sunlight coming in the french doors that go out to the deck, just, well, sideways light I guess you'd say.

We bought patio furniture soon after we moved here, and used our deck more often back then. But when the paint started peeling off the arms of the chairs, and the top of the table cracked when it got blown over in a storm, we got rid of it all and have never replaced it.

I'd love to get rid of the deck and replace it with either a screened porch or a sun room. But I think that's pretty much just a dream.

Doesn't western TX have the 80mph speed limits? That could help make the trip faster, too.

The cat is all curled up looking cute. He doesn't know what he's about to meet!

Sounds like our back yard. I plan to replace the deck with a porch this year. The deck is falling apart. We never use the deck anymore, but an attached porch would get used.

Ha ha ha I read this to DH. His dad was a Lt. Col. in the Air Force. DH laughed and said, "OH YEAH!"

I've just seen the parties they had at home and yeah.... I knew he'd appreciate it.
