Awwww, I had not, PH!!! I know there have been a lot of Star Trek connections with NASA and it's good to see it continuing. Shatner is something else. He has been a persistent actor if not always the best one! And honestly ya gotta give him credit.

Thank you! I'll show DD when she gets home and see if I beat her to something off twitter for a change! ha ha ha

It's so fulfilling to have people like that in your life.

The best part for me tho is funny. ALl of my really really dear friends are the ones that just get so much joy and laughter out of life. The guy fell and shattered his arm and shoulder in October and we all keep in touch thru IMs so kknew about it but not too much detail. well he told us the other night how relieved he was that the doctor put together his tattoos well. He was so petrified he'd lose that part of him, even in the face of possibly losing the arm he joked to the doctor if that happened could he have it to frame and keep the tattoos (gross!) but that willingness to have levity in your life says a lot. Especially since he'd been planning on asking his long time GF to marry him and instead they broke up in the same week as his injury.

when all is said and done you gotta laugh. And be honest. The rest falls into place.
Your friend is amazing V. Holy cow. That must have been incredibly terrifying but I think people who can keep that sense of humor and fierceness about things keep looking for those small handholds and tiny leaves of hope that get you, breath by breath, through the unendurable.

Apologies for making you all verklempt but... you understand what that friendship and hope mean.

That's the thing. You all do.

Alyson don't laugh... I had an e-mail a couple of days ago from friend who works at NASA so I emailed back and asked him if he'll set me up... I'll let you know the response, LOL!

I'm pretty sure the answer will be some variant on Houston, we have a problem...

Well, I got out early, went to vet to pick up a refill on Shadow's arthritis pain medicine.

Then to library. Got Poisonwood Bible (by B Kingsolver) for next week's bookclub. I have read it before, maube 5 years ago. So just need to scan it again.

Then special trip to post office to mail large package back to Sister of everything that didn't fit in her suitcase. She does this EVERY year. Grrrrrrrrr. Think she would learn to leave a little extra empty space? I actually stopped twice before. Once I thought I would use the self-serve but couldn't because pkg was too big for the drop-box opening. Second time was 12/31 at 2pm after they let us out of work early but PO had closed I guess very early. So third time was the charm.

Actually when I was up in Winston, my friend who lives there was asking if I've done any of the dating sites. He wanted to know what my experience was. I had to tell him so far my experience has been getting from the point where I'd rather eat a bucket of rusty nails than go on a date to acknowledging that maybe boys are cute sometimes. So he told me about his experience, LOL...

Debbie told me last night that AARP has a dating site.

I'm still grappling with the fact that my new dating demographic includes the target audience for erectile dysfunction ads...

Ooooo I love Barbara Kingsolver!!! Have you read the Lacuna? That's one of my favorite books! Ack now I'm hoping I remembered right that she wrote it...

Hi Shadow! Morning Marge!

I probably need to jump in the shower. I slept so late that Molly couldn't hold it and wee'd in the bedroom which has only ever happened once before.

I think if my sister did that every year, I'd either just resign myself to it and have a good laugh or else have a box ready for her when she arrived and tell her I planned to wait in the car while she ran in the PO on the way to the airport. I'm kind of evil that way. I know plan B would not have worked on a Sunday, though.

Ha ha ha! Did you google images? Not bad looking!

But here's the Wiki News:
Hadfield was born in Sarnia, Ontario. His parents are Roger and Eleanor Hadfield, who live in Milton, Ontario. Hadfield was raised on a corn farm in southern Ontario and became interested in flying at a young age—from his own words in the interview to STRF.RU, he came to the idea of being an astronaut when he was nine on the day of Apollo moon landing, which he had seen on TV then. He is married to his high-school girlfriend Helene, and they have three adult children together.

My in-laws used to host people from other countries, and sometimes their guests would end up buying extra luggage for all the stuff the bought over here! That was back before 9/11 though.

And the visitors from Russia knew that if they posted it to themselves, it would never arrive.

LOL Yup. It's not even the money (well for some of us, though packages ARE expensive), it's the hassle of stopping.

I went to Progressive Lenses in my early 40s. I think 41 or 42. I realized I was taking my glasses off to read small print.

i'm so sick of football talk around here. EVERYONE is either an Aggie's fan or a Texans fan. if they weren't whooping it up last night (well, i'll admit i did a bit last night - but not much) they're raising heck today.

Not much into football?

I like watching it but I don't just sit and watch. Kind of like background music. Even when I do care about the team! lol We've got the playoff game on now but I don't care about it really.

I don't know who to root for in the BCS championship. I've been rooting against SEC teams for the most part but I'm no fan of Notre Dame. I used to be. Grew up supporting The Fighting Irish, before I knew anything about football. lol

I don't think you have! (JK)

DD saw that storm/blizzard that closed a segment of I-10 between El Paso and Fort Stockton and was freaking, what if it happens next week? I said it doesn't happen very often so she should be happy it happened now. lol

I've been working on cleaning DS's room. There are spots he hasn't touched in years, like the top of his dresser. lol Yesterday I got the headboard all cleaned off and dusted, that wasn't too bad. Got all the bedding I could find in the wash and done. I guess I'll put his old stuffed animals into a bag for now, a big white trash bag should do. I can stash it then. But that dresser top is going to take meticulous removal of small items, and dusting.

I'm so sad about your Indian restaurant disappearing. I'm still in mourning over your Thai place.
Oh that's okay. The two Indian places were similar, both self serve, but one was close enough to walk to (not that we did; it's about 3/4 mile), and it was much nicer inside, fancy. Both had about the same price but the other one was more like a cafeteria inside. But tasty. It's very close to a Muslim gathering place, last night we parked in front of a door labeled "Women" and "Sisters."

The Thai restaurant is a whole different ballgame, of course, because she liked me so much. The new place is nicer inside but more impersonal. And I liked the dishes better in the old place but I do okay here.

I would have LOVED to have taken you there (the old place).

Turned out I was his FIRST patient in Florida! I used to wear tea rose perfume all the time, and he said his former girlfriend used to wear it. He was cute, young, and Jewish, and I think had moved down from Philly. lol Every time I went there, he knew it was me by the perfume first. I liked him a lot. He finally got married after his girlfriend got pregnant. Umm, you'd think an Ob/Gyn would know how to prevent that.

YES!!! Here's a link.

Dr. Stewart Newman | Samuel Kaufman | Susan Beil - Gynecologists, Obstetricians

The first doctor (Newman) was on call when I had DD, and so he delivered her, and she pooped on his new tennis shoes as she came out. He said he knew he should have put the footies on his shoes. lol

I think he also delivered DS. DS had pooped inside so they whisked him off to be checked out.

But the second guy is the one I was talking about. Kaufman. Really nice guy. He didn't have the facial hair back then. There was an older guy that was rather brusque and I didn't have much to do with him. The woman was added later, I did talk to her when I had my third pregnancy (miscarriage) but don't know her at all.

But I'm thrilled that I correctly remembered he had come to FL from Philly.

But here's the Wiki News:

Hadfield was raised on a corn farm in southern Ontario and became interested in flying at a young age—from his own words in the interview to STRF.RU, he came to the idea of being an astronaut when he was nine on the day of Apollo moon landing, which he had seen on TV then. He is married to his high-school girlfriend Helene, and they have three adult children together.

That's actually really sweet.

I mean, rats, it sucks for me, but really sweet...
